Matt Schneidman (Packers beat reporter for The Athletic) and Zack Rosenblatt (Jets beat reporter for The Athletic) came out with an article this morning where they role-play as Gutekunst and JD, respectively.

I'll spare you all the tedious back and forth of the "negotiating" in the article and just post the final trade agreement they came up with. For those that actually want to read the article, I'll link it below.

    The deal
Jets get: QB Aaron Rodgers, third-round pick (No. 78 overall)
Packers get: First-round pick (No. 13), conditional 2025 third-round pick*, WR Corey Davis

*Conditions: If Rodgers plays more than 50 percent of the offensive snaps in 2024, it becomes a second-round pick. If Rodgers plays in the playoffs in 2024, it becomes a first-round pick.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that JD would include 13th overall, otherwise the deal would be done already, and I don't love the conditions associated with the 2025 3rd as I feel they should be a little steeper to elevate to a 1st. As of right now, I don't think I'd do this, but my mind might change as we get closer to the draft and this thing drags on.

What do you all think? Would you pull the trigger on this trade?

No way would I - nor do I believe JD would - give up #13. At best he'll give them one of the two 2nds he now has this year, possibly Davis (although that would be more to clear up some cap space I think), and a conditional next year. That's as sweet as Douglas is going to make it for GB IMO.

To underscore: giving up our 1st this year is lunacy.

Zack was a poor choice for the role of JD, obviously.

I think the only way 13 is involved in this trade is if Green Bay is sending back 15.

    Maybe something like:

    Jets get Rodgers and 15
    Packers get 13, 42, 2024 3rd

That would mean the Jets basically valued Rodgers as 2nd, late 3rd, and 2024 3rd. That doesnt seem too crazy for me. Maybe the Packers send back a 5th or 6th or something.

It doesn't seem too crazy, but knowing JD, I think the price the Jets pay for Rodgers will be surprisingly low.

I don't think it's crazy, but at this point, it would seem like a "win" for GB and I don't think Douglas is going to go for that, nor do I think he needs to.

You don't trade a 1st round pick for a guy that might play 2 years for you.

Rodgers is not the last piece of the puzzle by a long shot.

I’ve said it ever since the first thread on Rodgers and I’ll say it again here: I am emphatically opposed to ANY deal that involves a 1st round draft pick in exchange for a 40 year old quarterback. At this point I hang up the phone any time a 1st is brought up

Only case I might give a 1st it's a conditional one if we win the Super Bowl next year.

Not even then. Absolute highest pick I give up is a 2nd. And even then it’s because I’m sick of this game and want it over. They’re clearly not looking anywhere else

    HELL NO
The moment you agree to a first this year you are moving into a LJ negotiation strategy.

All I can tell you is that I am glad Zach Blatt is not JD. This deal is as bad for the Jets as I have seen one circulated anywhere. And it is much more than the 4th round pick that we will end up getting Rodgers for eventually :)

If Joe D would agree to anything in the ballpark of those terms it would have been done last month.

I wouldn’t do it, but something similar might be what we’re staring down the barrel of. There aren’t a lot of options out there for the Jets if it’s not Rodgers.

And worse comes to worse, why wouldn’t the Packers just run it back next year with Rodgers? People are underestimating this aspect of their leverage. Yeah their cap is a disaster and they don’t want to do that, but another push with him isn’t a terrible scenario.

The Jets going 7-10 with Ryan Tannehill (while giving up a draft for him) seals the fate of this regime.

YES! I was thinking the same thing. JD is offering a 4th round pick plus a conditional pick the next year and he's not budging. He has all the "leverage". In addition, he just traded the Jets only 3rd round pick, thus showing that he's not going to compromise from that 4th round pick. If this is true and he gets Rodgers for a 4th round pick, he needs to go directly into the negotiating hall of fame.

This is an awful trade proposal.

The max to me is a 2023 2nd rounder, plus a conditional day 3 2025 pick IF Rodgers plays well (milestones) throughout the 2024 season.
And that's assuming GB eating some of that contract.
