You are going to think I’m crazy. You may even think “Baumeister is smoking some killer weed”. Forget all this Roger’s is our only option business. Use the 13th pick on either OL or a player that will make the defense a bigger monster. Then pick up someone like Tanner McKee out of Stanford in the draft. He is big, strong and I would rather have him over Wilson. Most important he is under the radar and would not be expected to be the franchise's savior. Sign a scrub vet like Ryan to start a few games. Bring the rookie in week 5 and roll with it. Get ANYTHING you can for Wilson. What do the Jets have to lose? Just one of many options. IMHO
You are mostly right but Murphy is the key decision-maker there, he just answers to the board, not unlike the President/CEO of most all publicly owned businesses. It is so much better that way. Murphy is held accountable by the board and the shareholders. Who holds Woody Johnson accountable? No one, he can make stupid decision after stupid decision
There are a bunch of scenarios that allow the Jets to build the OL and fill gaps in the defense in the draft and still compete this year with a better chance at a playoff run in 2024. The Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary is exactly that and the Jets probably have about as much chance to make it work as an Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary in the endzone down 6 with one play left on the clock.
We will be in the Packers spot next offseason. Praying that he comes out of his darkness cave with a retirement announcement
The legitimately terrible idea is playing out in front of us right now. Tom Brady to the Bucs worked because he was indestructible and because the Bucs were legitimately about 2 players plus Brady away from a championship bid. They signed him and Gronk and they were so close. This Jets team basically needs to rebuild about 3/5th of the OL, replace the safeties and get a really effective edge and NT and probably needs a RB and a TE also before they are good to go. That's a lot of moving pieces that need to get to fit together before Aaron Rodgers is going to be doing anything other than running for his life.
Rodgers could literally sit and collect 60M from them and cause a huge distraction around Jordan Love's first year as a starter. It really is best for both sides to agree to a trade. Both sides have leverage to an extent which effectively means neither side has a ton of leverage.
Green Bay is such a strange but successful franchise. They keep breaking up with Hall of Famers because they drafted a replacement and it's time to go with the guy. Also, their Hall of Famers become very expensive on the cap and drive the move. I guess I admire their basic plan but man it is probably very hard on the fanbase every time they do this.
His neck injury a few years prior was always a ticking time bomb concern for many of us, particularly in the fantasy world.
Any of you got to hear Stephen A rant and rave at Bart Scott as to why the Jets should be happy to give the !3th pick up and move on like it was a bargain?
Stephen A. is very good at his job. However, that job is not to give accurate or correct sports takes. It's to spout nonsense that elicits conversations.
Yeah, I saw KC this year.... last game of the season. Saw the Bengals and Chargers last year and was one of the very few lucky people to have seen an NFL game in a completely empty stadium when I saw the Phins year 1. That was wild. I've also been to pretty much every UNLV game the last 2 years. Also a few Las Vegas Bowls and Real Madrid vs Barcelona over the summer.
The thing that makes me feel good about the Jets going all in on this 39 year old veteran QB, who has been threatening retirement for the last several seasons, is that he went on a "darkness retreat" to help him decide if he wanted to play football again. Everyone knows that going on a "darkness retreat" is a very powerful experience that can help a person make major life decisions. Granted, it's not as powerful as rubbing crystals on your nipples or wearing Copper Socks, but none the less, it is still very powerful.
