It is 57 degrees and raining cats and dogs here in Danbury. By 1pm this afternoon the rain will stop. Which is a very good thing because it will drop below freezing by 5pm and then get down to 17 degrees by 9pm. Overnight it will drop to as low as 10 degrees and will not get back above freezing until Tuesday. We're looking at mid-teens all weekend.

All things considered we dodged a huge bullet. If this had been freezing rain the region would have been paralyzed with lots of power outages for a week.

It's projected to rain next weekend also with temperatures in the high 40's and low 50's and then another arctic plunge the following week. Crossing my fingers that this is true because two potentially hellish weeks became manageable by Mother Nature's quirks.

23 degrees now at 6:48. Will be about 19 by the time I am off work. Weather is surreal these days. Was a sloppy wet commute through a debris-strewn landscape this morning and will be a frigid ride home over icy roads this evening.

The Rockaways are one of the places we will retreat from over the next generation. It's going to happen because the MTA has so much exposed infrastructure out there. The city and state will punt and the people will follow after digging in their heels for a decade or so after the punt. Flood insurance is really expensive and one of the places the GOP will be able to cut government spending is in the federal insurance that has largely replaced the private sector in coastal lowlands.

My family is mostly from the south shore, my mother grew up in the rockaways, my dad in Oceanside. They don’t remember it flooding like it does now. And great point about the mta.

Shit... just got off the phone with my brother. He lives in Island Park. Their neighborhood flooded. He took the train to work and his car was parked on the street...no bueno... luckily neighbor helped move his car before it was too late (wife was home but she cant drive a manual)... still got water inside.
They got a few inches in the garage too.

Had the line pass us earlier. Tornado touchdown a little west of here. But not much here. Was near 70 today. Going to be more seasonable for the next week or so.

Looks like we are getting our first snowstorm tonight. By me in Fair Lawn, NJ (Bergen County) they are calling for 3-5 inches starting around 7:00 tonight and then changing over to rain tomorrow in the late morning. I never bothered to get gas for the snowblower and at this point I wouldn't with March around the corner.

Was 84 here yesterday. Hit 39 last night, 61 today. Only 31% humidity now, with the pollen feels like I’m inhaling while holding a lighter in my nostrils.
