Main Jets notes: "Jets are smitten by Minnesota C John Michael Schmitz and want him to replace Connor McGovern at center. Wouldn't be shocked if they move up in the bottom of the first/top second for him. Jet shave spoken to the agents for a few veteran free agent WRs/ They'll move on from Corey Davis if he doesn't restructure. CJ Mosley is expected to restructure. Expect Carl Lawson to stay on the team. Jets won't play Becton on the right side. The Jets have a logjam of tackles under contract that they are unsure of, Becton, Duane Brown, and Max Mitchell all have their health concerns. Makes for a tricky situation. They could lean towards an OL early in the draft with flexibility rather than just a pure tackle. Derek Carr would like to sign early this week and we've heard he prefers the Jets/Panthers/Saints in that order, but the Jets are still holding out hope they'll get the ok from Aaron Rodgers." If any/all of this is true, feels like if they go OL with the 13th pick it will be Skoronski. He's got the versatility to play inside or out, ala AVT. Could start Skoronski out at RT and then let him "fail inside" and take over for Tomlinson at LG next season when the Jets could look to free that cap space up. I'm very happy they like JMS. Would love to have him be our C for the next decade. In an ideal world, he's still there for us at 43 but I don't hate the idea of trading up slightly to ensure we get him. Hopefully the Jets can get CD, CJ, and Lawson to all restructure. Frees up money for the team while not creating new holes/spots to fill. Sounds like Carr is ready to roll. If I'm JD, I get on the phone with whoever I can with the Packers/Rodgers' camp/etc. and say, "Hey guys, we've gotta know ASAP. We need an answer by (insert time here)." This is beginning to reach the point where we just can't wait any longer. Carr's been upfront about everything so we've known he wants to be on his new team before FA kicks off next week. I hope we have our answer at QB before the weekend.
"Jets are smitten by Minnesota C John Michael Schmitz and want him to replace Connor McGovern at center. Wouldn't be shocked if they move up in the bottom of the first/top second for him." --- Hate that move. Moving up for these late 1st/early 2nds have sapped this team of capital and Douglas does it every year. If you like a guy in that spot move DOWN not up. If you miss out, oh well, its a just a center. McGovern is average. How much better is Schmitz gonna be? Even if he's above average right away does an upgrade from average to above average at Center even result in 1 more win? doubt it strongly.
Breece Hall AVT Jermaine Johnson Early returns on all three of those guys are "who gives a fuck about the day 3 picks we gave up for them" Although I agree with you here. McGovern is fine, I wouldn't go crazy trying to replace him. Now if we get priced out of the market, which I can see happening, then we're in a bit of a bind but I dont think the answer is trading up for his replacement.
I'm not advocating for giving up a 1st next year to to move up and take JMS but if we get to the late 30's and he's still on the board and all it takes to go up and get him is 43 and a 4th (112) or 5th rounder (145), would you not do that? I probably would.
Hall is different because it was in the 2nd round and they only moved up 2 spots, so it only costed a 5th. They way that report talks about Schmitz, it doesn't seem like its gonna be moving up a mere 2 spots The boss move is moving down from 13 to the 20s and picking up another 3rd and some change. Minnesota does that all the time and they may have the most talented roster in the league
I don't think he will be there in the late 30s. Linemen always go earlier than the prognosticators project. But I would trade a 5 not a 4 in that scenario possibly, but I wouldn't love it. You can find centers in those rounds
I wouldn't hate this either, especially if the report of them preferring a versatile OL prospect is true and Skoronski is off the board already. Trade back and hope one of the OTs falls or snag one of the top WRs (JSN, Addison, etc.).
Yet Minnesota hasn’t made it to the Super Bowl. The teams who do, seem to move up and down to acquire talent.
From Cimini's blog: 5. Jersey boy: If the Jets don't address their center need in free agency, they might be able to draft a player from their own backyard -- Ohio State's Luke Wypler, who attended St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. He's the No. 3 prospect at center, according to ESPN draft analysts Matt Miller and Jordan Reid. Wypler grew up a serious Jets fan, so serious that he named his dog "Chez," after former quarterback Mark Sanchez. An admirer of former center Nick Mangold (a former Ohio State standout), Wypler wore Mangold's No. 74 during his high school career. His closet included jerseys from his favorite players, notably Darrelle Revis and Brett Favre. Being drafted by the Jets "would be a childhood dream come true," Wypler told ESPN. "It would be so surreal to play for the Jets. They were my team growing up." Sound familiar? Tight end Jeremy Ruckert went from a childhood Jets fan in Lindenhurst, New York, to Ohio State to Jets draft pick in 2022. Wypler (6-foot-3, 300 pounds) is known for his movement skills. As he said, "I tell people that I'm an athlete who plays offensive line." And he plays center because "I like to be in charge." He's projected as a second- or third-round pick, which could be the sweet spot for teams in the market for a center.
What is your point. Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady have won all the superbowls, yeah Minnesota hasn't. Should the Jets trade up for a center or not with this information?
Would we agree JD's track record has been better moving up, e.g., Hall, AVT, than moving down, e.g., Mims
I don’t know how the Jets truly feel about the Centers atop the draft or the players they like that are going in the 1st so I can’t comment on what they should do. My point, which i honestly thought was pretty clear, is that Minnesota probably isn’t the team who’s draft strategy we should copy.
I can’t tell if you’re pretending to be stupid to get a ride of if you’re genuinely stupid; my money is on the latter
Well, I’d answer that question but as established you wouldn’t understand the answer. Stay blissful, my friend
