All-time dead weight. The new CBA guaranteeing all 1st round contracts really made the situation untenable. People say you gotta take a QB when you are up high but if you screw it up there's no way out. The problem is you have to give the high pick a bunch of money up front and that is never coming off your cap.
Im not referring to his cold weather record. I’m referring to the fact his stats are all compiled in nice weather/domes for the most part. Like Zach said in NE, “guys it’s windy”. MetLife is notoriously windy even on good days. BUF and NE in Nov-Jan, cold and windy. Not conducive to suddenly putting up monster stats for a QB. I’m speaking more to the point that you’re expecting him to improve. He’s 9 years in the league… he is what he is. Putting him in a much higher pressure environment that also has much more challenging weather elements does not support an idea that he will improve here. While I agree the Jets are better than the Raiders team he just left, they’ve been a very solid Offensive roster for most of his 9 years. His fair projection in my mind is 20-25 TD’s, 10-15 INT’s, and about 3000 yards. Certainly better than anything we’ve had, but not the kind of production I’d want to hitch our wagon to for the next 4-6 years. The draft is and always will be our source for QB success no matter how many times we’ve failed at it.
But you’re ok waiting for Carr? He said the process will take weeks. He wants to review all his options. Rodgers actually doesn’t even have any say in the matter since he’s under contract. We’re actually not even waiting on Rodgers, but we are in fact waiting on Carr.
Sure it does. You “develop” guys that will actually be around. Rodgers will be here for 2 years if we get him, barring that he wins the SB for us in year one and decides to retire on a high note. If we want to develop a guy, draft Richardson or Levis. Both need developing, both have higher ceilings than Zach, and both would still be under contract for 2 more years when Rodgers is done and they’re ready to play. Get Zach’s contract off the books and sign a backup to Rodgers that can actually play football if Rodgers gets hurt.
Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result?? Sounds like typical Jet thinking..
I'm ok waiting for Carr. I'm not ok if we put everything on hold for AR. You, i, everybody else not connected to team has no idea.
Where did you read that because it makes no sense? If they waited until June 1st teams will probably have made their QB decisions already, they wouldn't get a draft pick this year, if they couldn't trade him because everyone has already made their QB moves then they have a pissed off Rodgers to deal with.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/aaron-rodgers-contract-details-salary-cap-impact-bonuses/ This explains the details of his complicated contract. Post june 1 seems to be money saving date
They can trade him today and designate it as a June 1st transaction. It's done every year so teams can get their cap straight before free agency. Just gives them the choice of when the cash hits the cap but being able to make the move earlier.
That's a release not a trade. I believe in a trade situation you have to wait until June 1st if you want the cap benefits.
Not an official source but from an article on SBNation The NFL salary cap makes distinctions between player moves that happen before June 1 and after June 1 of any given year. Removing a player from the roster, whether by cutting said player or trading him, prior to June 1 results in the acceleration of all remaining prorated bonus money into the current year. One thing to note here is that the June 1 designation applies to trades as well as cuts, though June 1 cuts are all we are likely to hear about in salary cap discussions. https://www.ganggreennation.com/2020/3/19/21186561/understanding-the-post-june-1-designation
https://overthecap.com/explaining-the-post-june-1-designation I wasn't actually sure about this based on the various sources around the web but Caporoso is usually on the mark.
We are absolutely waiting on Rodgers, if he retires there is no deal in place. Rodgers has said retirement is a real possibility this offseason so, although no one expects it to happen, the decision is definitely held up until he says what his intentions are. He is suppose to meet with the Packers soon to give his decision and according to all, that meeting hasn't happened yet. It would be in the best interest of the Packers to trade Aaron sooner than later since other veteran FA signings would shrink the trade return market on Rodgers. It is definitely a Rodgers decision we are waiting on.
