Pride can be a powerful motivator... JD should just take the L on Wilson and move on but, this is his first GM job so I kinda get why he's hanging on the remote possibility that ZW becomes the 2nd rd. overall pick guy they hoped he was.
Douglas has such an opportunity to be 'the hero' here by moving on. I wonder what he is telling these veteran QBs that are undoubtedly asking about Zach Wilson. Rodgers gets pissy with Jordan Love, you know he's asking what the plan is with Wilson before he even thinks of coming here
Woody is the Wild Card in this play. He wants his Vet QB. Unless he's completely changed, he also wants his Star QB and the publicity that comes with that. Especially with ticket prices going up, he's gonna have a helluva time selling tickets to the show without a headliner. The Tannehills, the Brissetts, the Garappolos just isn't gonna have the impact he's looking for. Its Rodgers, Carr or someone's ass is in the hot seat.
What does Rodgers care though? He's got 2 years TOPS left. If the Jets trade for him and pay him that money, as long as he's physically able to play, Rodgers will play. Now Carr is another story. He will be here for longer so I get him asking the question. Rodgers? He couldn't give a fuck about Wilson.
Because it's the Jets. The way the Jets have handled QB's over the last decade is just strange beyond imagining which is a big part of why the team has only sniffed the playoffs once over that span.
you don’t want to go to a place where the guy you are replacing was treated horribly you don’t want to go to a place where your backup has a deep connection to the owner you don’t want to go to a place where you will be asked questions about your backup at every press conference Also a quality of life thing, players of the same position spend hours and hours together in meeting rooms. You don’t want to work with an asshole, so you ask about someone especially if he has a reputation… —- Those are several possible reasons why they will ask about Wilson
If they bring in Garoppolo whoever is the backup is likely to play, maybe a substantial part of the season. That's just his history.
