They also had the #3 best running game in terms of yard and 4th in yards per attempt. Granted they led the league in attempts and all but they were picking up yards. Lockdown corner in Terrell, Kyle Pitts and a good coach and owner. Not sure how the Jets present a way better situation to be honest.
I would think the weaker NFC South division would be attractive to Carr, whether it will be the Saints, Panther or Falcons. I don’t think Carolina will go after him now that they are in good position to pick a solid QBin the draft. saints have to maneuver some moves to free up some Salary cap and Get Carr for mid $30M. Falcons is a good choice with couple of intriguing offensive players. He wants to get to the posts. Care has better chance in NFC South.
Mariota's 17 game projections: 2900 passing yards 19 TD, 11 INT 572 rushing yards 6 rushing TD You put him on the Jets and we're a wildcard team. You put Flacco, Wilson and White on the Falcons and they're potentially picking first overall. We have the OROY, another OROY candidate, DROY, top 5 defense and a full load of picks. Looking at the record is about as lazy as it gets but I'm also trying to take into consideration who made the original point.
Mariota is very fragile. If the Jets signed him I would want it to be a deal we could get out of in a year if he wound up hurt during that season.
Oh god in no way am I advocating for the Jets to sign Mariota. I'm saying the Falcons got the production out of him that the Jets could only dream of last year so that's one of the handful of reasons it's dumb to compare both teams and their situations based off the 2022 record.
Mariota is alright. The Falcons gave him a raw deal. I think I'd rather have him than Brissett and possibly even Jimmy G... assuming there's a swing and miss on Carr & Rodgers, which historically we know is the more likely outcome
Let's see where Carr signs. Somebody interesting for a short-term assignment holding the job for a 2024 draftee may pop loose.
That’s because he had the leagues third ranked running game. He was throwing for 170 yards/game. The Jets had the 25th ranked rushing offense. Mariota would throw for an extra 70ish yards a game with us to make up that difference?
Mariota rushed for 438 yards Jets QBs rushed for 171 yards combined Mariota himself was a huge reason the Falcons had a top ranked run game. So saying Carr would be walking into a situation where he’s flanked by a top 3 run game is misleading at best. and if we’re gonna go strictly by numbers with no context, if Breece Hall stays healthy for 17 games he’d have rushed for 1200 yards putting the Jets running yardage total in 7th.
If you add in Mariota’s delta versus the Jets QBs rushing stats to the Jets, they move up to 20th and still well behind the Falcons. Breece Hall didn’t stay healthy and won’t be the same next year so that’s irrelevant.
Less Taxes, with a chance to win many division titles and who knows in the NFC the path to the Super Bowl is much easier. Want to go into the Hall of Fame, go against Dak and who else in the NFC? Compared to the studs in the AFC
uhh no, that’s 267 yards difference. Or a whopping 15 yards per game (17 game season) 1 more first down, yeah that’s cool. But that’s not a huge difference. Mariota is not a running QB the bigger difference maker is Arthur Smith, he knows how to scheme a running game
again I’m replying to someone that is bringing up rankings. Go look at the rushing totals and see the difference 267 yards makes. Or just read the post where I pointed out how one player alone would be responsible for one team dropping four spots and another team rising five spots. also look at the post where I pointed out how much a healthy Breece Hall would have changed the Jets rushing totals. Would have moved them into seventh had he kept up his production from the first seven games. I guess that means MLF really knows how to scheme a running game doesn’t he? In case you are still missing the point, basing decisions solely off of raw numbers and team records is an irresponsible way to form an opinion.
