I’ll be optimistic in the playoffs if we can keep the 1st WC spot and stay in the metro bracket. The Atlantic Division s brutal. All three of those teams can legitimately win the Cup.
What would really be nice is if the Devils can somehow catch Carolina for the division and the Isles remain in the WC 1 spot. I do think the Isles could beat them. Carolina and Boston I really want no part of. I agree the Atlantic is brutal. Playing Tampa or Toronto would not be fun either.
This was a big win if for no other reason that they did not allow the loss to the Kings start a losing streak as they’ve been prone to do after winning streaks.
Whether Lambert was the right choice or not is debatable but it’s clear why Lou moved on from Trotz and that seems to have been the right call. From everything Trotz said afterwards it seemed obvious he was coming to the end of his coaching career; now that is confirmed.
Their defense was solid, I expected a lapse in defense but they kept it simple and kept grinding away!
A third-round draft choice for a 20-game rental of a 15-goal-a-year scorer for a team that is going absolutely nowhere this year. Yeah, that makes sense.
Clearly Lou believes Sorokin can go 2012 Jonathan Quick on the playoffs and single-handedly take us to the Cup. Only problem is the Kings only had one really elite team to play in the playoffs, the Canucks, and they were saddled with the Presidents Trophy curse. And they played a 6th seeded Devils team in the finals. For the Isles just getting out of the East is brutal.
He traded for a floater, who plays a non physical game of hockey, since all the older guys he’s tried to build team with are all getting hurt, needs another scrub to play in their place. He’s a bum and needs to be fired ASAP!
That team was a lot better than this Islanders team. They had better offensive players, they all showed up in the playoffs. Jeff Carter was huge for them. I believe they had 90 points to capture 8th seed. I have no clue what Lou is doing right now, if they make playoffs which I doubt, they will be ousted in 1st round, just not enough fire power to win close games.
Absolutely. Outside of Sorokin and Quick there is no similarity between the teams so it’s pretty delusional of Lou to believe this team could ride Sorokin to the Cup, but what else could Lou realistically think could lead to playoff success?
Four unanswered goals in the third for a nice win. Which doesn't in any way change my disapproval at the team not being sellers at the trade deadline.
The Isles got some help on the scoreboard last night as the Sabres, Sens, and Caps all lost. All of them remain 4 points behind the Isles and they burned one of their games in hand. Big game tonight between the Isles and Sabres as it's a 4-point game. Need a regulation win tonight. Also need regulation wins on Thursday vs the Pens, and Saturday vs the Caps. These next 3 games are against teams the Isles are competing with for a playoff spot.
A win tonight turns that 3 games in hand for the Sabres into a tie. This is the definition of a must-win game for the Isles.
Same with the Pens (1 point back) on Thursday and the Caps (4 points back) on Saturday. They won last Saturday so they need to win the next 3 hopefully in regulation to complete a 4-game winning streak. If there were ever 3 games to win in regulation, then these next 3 are it. The Isles can't clinch a playoff spot by this Saturday night, but they can put themselves in a real good position. Win the next 3.
This is where Horvat needs to make a difference. Shocks me that Brock is the only consistent offensive player this team has. Others really need to treat these games like it’s playoff hockey and take it to another level!
