I agree it's annoying, but I don't blame Rodgers for that, I blame desperate Jets fans who are hanging on every word and syllable uttered from anyone with a keyboard, trying to predict what Rodgers (and Carr, and JD) will do. That's not on Rodgers. He said he was going to take some time to really reflect on what he wants to do, what's the problem with that? Other than it delays the resolution to a decades-long problem for the Jets not caused by him. If anyone here were faced with a life-affecting decision, wouldn't you want to be able to really think hard about it and all the options? None of this is to say that Rodgers is definitely the best choice - although I think he is - but how much time has JD and the Jets taken in analyzing their options? Doesn't that gate gate swing both ways? I'm not going to get into the pros and cons of Rodgers vs. Carr in this post. I just wanted to counter some of the stuff aimed at AR with some balance.
Again, I don't know Rodgers. Maybe he is a diva. But how do you know that "everything Rodgers says, does or thinks gets reported in the media" is the result of him initiating that stuff? He's a famous QB playing in a famous football town, and while his decisions affect a lot of people, and therefore are "newsworthy" up to a point, I think it's more the media that's creating all the drama. Just my opinion.
I don't give a shit about Rodgers as a person, but I don't want him messing up the locker room. Will he put the team first if he comes here?
That gets us to another issue: is Rodgers the same player he was then? You can get burned badly if you assume an aging player will perform as he has in the past. That's why it's crucial that Douglas and Saleh satisfy themselves that he's still Aaron Rodgers, not the guy who used to be Aaron Rodgers, before they make a move. Their jobs are riding on it.
So AR came out of the cave/darkness, did he see his shadow? If not, 6 more weeks of pain negotiations and unknowns.
Here's why: 1. You don't see it happen with other players. If anything, you see a lot of QBs who are somewhat secretive about their off-seasons and their off-the-field activities 2. These reporters aren't exactly doing Woodward-and-Bernstein investigative digging. Most of the stuff seems to be leaked to them. Who but Rodgers or someone in his inner circle would be in a position to know this stuff? Again, just one man's opinion. I see it as a reasonable inference, but someone else may see it as sheer speculation.
White would be expensive as a back up and Carr has been very durable. I disagree with signing White. Trading Wilson actually hurts the cap, so what is the purpose of trading him at such a low value other than you dislike him?
Of course he wouldn’t. He hasn’t put the team first ever, he’s not gonna do it with the NY Jets who he has no ties whatsoever to
The truth is, deep down Rodgers wants what he always wanted. To play for the Niners. Its kinda funny actually, that door was closed by Mr. Irrelevant. Poetic justice I suppose.
Trading Wilson now saves money on the cap over next 2 years. It’s a sunk cost and he won’t recover in NYC. Doesn’t have the makeup. White can be our long term backup, like Reid/Henne
It just occurred to me, the niners could trade Purdy to the Pack to make a hard 2023 SB push. That would be wild.
Pretty sure they already said that they wouldn't trade Rodgers in the NFC. I mean that's an easy super bowl winning team if it happens, I just don't see it.
I don't see it either. But if Purdy is a potential FQB the Pack would be fine with the niners winning during a rebuild year for them. The question would be "if Purdy is a FQB".
