I think we almost have to keep Ramsey with us because if Chad gets hurt (which he is definitely liable to) then I don't know if Clemens would be ready to step in and start. We need to have a good backup QB because of Chad's past problems. Also I think if we got a good pass rushing OLB (like Anthony Spencer) the Barton would either be cut or a backup. In my mock off-season, I think Barton would be great because we can use him this year to take some pressure off of Anthony Spencer and they would platoon. Hobson is, I think, would be more effective inside than Barton because he is a bigger and stronger than Barton. So that is why I would switch Barton back outside and move Hobson inside, especially if we got a OLB in the draft.
I know some people LOVE Brad Smith, as do I, but not as our # 3 WR. He is a solid slash type/# 4 WR. Espcially if there is talk about Coles only playing thru his contract in 2009, we need to establish somebody else with Cotch to take over. Coles gets hurt every year and because he is a warrior he plays. If he ever went down due to injury and all we had was Cotch and Smith wed be in trouble. Just an idea but what about packaging 25 and our 2nd rounder to move up to the Top 15 to get Dwayne Jarrett?? We need a big play guy to help Chad stretch the field and open the lanes for Coles and Leon underneath in the short passing game. I know Mangini values draft picks, but even Belichick has been known to move up to get who he wants (Watson, Jackson ect) We can still take Micheal Bush with Washington's 2nd rounder and that helps the O out big time. The D i think can be fixed thru free agency (Clements, Samuel, Al Singleton, Odealius Thomas) just to name a few.
Moving from 25 to 15 would mean 330 points (http://www.theredzone.org/2005/draft/draftvaluechart.asp) which is pick 57. Do you want to give up our 1st and 2nd to move up 10 slots?
I don't think we can afford to pay for another WR based on assumptions (that Coles won't play through his contract). We have a lot of bigger needs, and we already have 2 great WR. We cannot let those other needs go and get stronger at a position of strength already. Also I think that Smith will develop into a Antwaan Randle El type, and be a very good 3rd WR. Also Paul Williams, with the right tuteledge, could be an outstading WR, with his combination of speed and height.
