I think BoJ is having a problem contemplating the Jets with Carr at QB. Maybe he's having nightmares over the buttwhuppin Joe Burrow put on them at home in the Buffalo Snow. The Jets with Carr would be the biggest threat to Buffalo domination of the AFCE.
Carr is basically a Stafford. In fact, his stats for the Raiders are better than Stafford in Detroit. Don't be fooled by win loss record, this is not a QB stat, I think we witnessed it for ourselves last year. Carr has had literally the worst defense in NFL since he entered the League and 26th running game. What this means is that everything was on him. And he managed to put together 4 pro bowl seasons, including one as #3 in MVP race. Granted, last season's Pro Bowl was BS, but he did have a couple of seasons where he could have made it but didn't, so 4 is about right. Rams gave 2 first round picks, 3d round pick, and a solid QB Goff for Stafford. We can get same type of guy giving up no assets. I would wine and dine Carr and make the best sales pitch we can. The second Rodgers comes out of the cave if he does not give indication he wants to be a Jet right away, I would extend the offer to Carr and pray he takes it. I think timing lines up, as Carr is probably a week away before accepting any offer as there are still a few teams to consider, but if for some reason Carr says he is signing elsewhere say on Monday, unless the Jets sign him the same day, I would not risk losing him.
The Stafford trade was to dump Goff's contract. No way the Rams include even a single 1st in that deal if they weren't dumping the huge guaranteed contract.
No. Detroit had #10 overall offer from the Panthers and other picks. Goff was overpaid, but it was a two year deal, and he was a productive QB, not a huge dump off here. Also, the Rams didn't have a 1st round pick that year and Detroit had to wait for 2 first rounders, while Panthers had #10 ready to go. The point is, there is significant value in a player like Carr/Stafford in addition to contract, and we can get him without giving up that value. So, to me Rodgers is still the 1st choice, and we should have some sort of strong indication on him probably by Thursday. Hopefully that won't preclude from going after Carr as a #2 choice if indication from Rodgers is a no. But if Rodgers delays and the decision on Carr must be made prior, I would not lose him and then risk not having either of the two. There is a huge drop off from Carr/Rodgers to Tanny/Jimmy. From Rodgers to Carr I am not sure if there is as huge a drop off given Rodgers' age. Still there is a drop off, hence Rodgers #1, Carr #2, ...., #3/4 Tanny, Jimmy, ... , the rest.
Dude we didn't make it to the playoffs for 12 straight years. During this time we drafted Darnold and Wilson and couldn't develop neither. Carr will not be a stop gap. Carr will make this team relevant for next 5-6 years.
No. The Lions paid $100M for two first round picks. That was the cap hit and guaranteed money they took on when they took Goff off the Rams cap. It was widely reported as such at the time of the trade. Also the Rams were done with Goff a year after signing him to a huge deal. Giving up the picks was their solution to dealing with the otherwise enormous cap hits projected for the following 3 seasons.
So it is Saturday night. Jets have 3 steakhouses in close vicinity. Shall I hit each one of them to check on Jets brass and Carr? I will do it you know. LOL
Why would Carr ever sign a "stop gap" contract? He is going to be one of the most coveted FA in years, he is going to want a huge deal and will probably get it.
Try the Chick-fil-A... "He admitted it could be some training breaking Chick-fil-A" https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.fresnobee.com/sports/nfl/article162893673.html
Really, Carr will turn 32 on March 28. He played for six different head coaches in his nine seasons and worked with five different play-callers. His 142 starts since he arrived in the NFL in 2014 are tied with Tom Brady for the most by any quarterback in that span. Carr, a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Fresno State, has a career record of 63-79, with two playoff appearances and no playoff wins. Carr has 217 touchdown passes, 99 interceptions and a career quarterback rating of 91.8. he is a significant improvement of anything in the JETS QB room... so yea, I;ll take him in a heart beat. And BTW, if we were to sign him we KEEP all of our draft picks which we desperately need.
Why anyone would want a drama king who has to spend 4 days in the dark to make a life changing decision over a guy who has done his job wherever he's gone is beyond me. Derek Carr would be exactly what the Jets need. A guy who can cement his legacy by resurrecting a snakebit franchise finally showing signs of life as opposed to a guy living off his legacy. a 3-4 year bridge just might be what this franchise needs. Consistency lets our FO/CS get their act together so that when the time comes, they just might have learned how to develop a QB. Something they know nothing about today. Aaron Rodgers won't take the Jets anywhere near the SB as there are too many other holes in the roster that need filling not to mention new Coordinators on offense and in the QB room. Its a mystery if Rodgers will play at all, where he will play if he does, and for how long. Derek Carr is in the building right now, will cost no DP's, and can stabilize the QB position for the next 3 years. IF this team was ONE Qb away from the SB, I would be in for Diva Rodgers but that's not the case in my opinion.
Carr is best case scenario. Have been saying it for months. No picks, stabilizes the position for at least 3-4 years if not more. You can then bring in a QB in year 2 or 3, sit them like chiefs did with Mahomes and Alex smith. Packers did with rodgers. You are not constantly reaching at QB, and it is no longer a conversation. They should not let him out of the building. He has an idea what NO will pay. Make it more than that and move on.
No. Goff got paid 25 mil upfront by the Rams. Detroit didn't have to pay him sign on. Basically for Detroit Goff was a 26 mil per year guy with two years fully guaranteed. And two optional. This is not crazy money for a starting QB. In fact right now it looks like a bargain to the point where Detroit likely will pick up his option. But even if not, 26 per year for Goff over two years is not a huge dump. Also, you didn't address the point about #8 overall and other picks that the Panthers offered. That also has no value to you? Rams offer was even better than that, which is why Detroit took it. Again, I think I have proven beyond doubt that a guy like Stafford (which I view Carr in the same category) has significant value. To get him without giving up that value is a coup. https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/panthers-offer-for-stafford-revealed https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/jared-goff-18949/
Holy crap this feels just like the lead up to the 2021 draft. People in a QB doom spiral and finding a crap savior they think will "change everything". Carr isn't a proven loser, but he's also not a proven winner. I've watched a lot of Riders during his career. The one thing about Carr, the reason the Raiders are finally done with him, is that he wilts in crunch time. When the pressure is on he never comes through. Forget stats, he's nothing like Stafford. And were nothing like the Rams team that signed Stafford. Were acting like the Colts the last three years,(especially with Rodgers, at least Carr would be less destructive to our build) and even seeing their mistakes, we're all in on making them too. I thought JD understood how to build things the right way but he doesn't. Now we have to live with his desperation too. IMO I cant sign off on any expensive QB at this stage. Go with a cheaper guy, throw an informed dart in the draft, and keep building until were ready to make a big move. Rushing into big things will just extend the misery.
This couldn’t be more wrong. First of all, I’m not sure why we’re even talking about what’s worse for the bills, we should be talking about what’s best the for the jets. Second, it’s not even what’s worst for the bills. What is the worst case scenario for buffalo is that the jets find a franchise qb to compete with Allen for years. Derek Carr is not that. In fact, Derek Carr is ensuring that will not be the case. The jets have a better young core to build around than buffalo, so adding a franchise qb would be a nightmare. Having a “good” qb like Carr on the jets would be great for buffalo because it ensures the jets will not have a franchise qb, will not win the Super Bowl, and will waste the rookie deals of the young core of the jets. I don’t care if it makes our games more competitive for a year, that is a dumb and short sighted move by the jets.
Derek Carr is a proven loser because he’s been in the league 10 years and never done anything. They’ve supported him with everything over the years - hall of fame coaches, hall of fame receivers, great offensive lines, a top 3 tight end, a league leading rusher, yet he’s never sniffed a title. We KNOW he’s not a franchise qb, it’s been proven. Why someone would want this guy leading their franchise for more than a stop gap year is unacceptable, considering the main goal is to win a Super Bowl and the way you do that is by having a franchise qb.
