So far it seems like Saleh isn't too keen on publicly airing out dirty laundry or calling someone out to the media. I think that's the kinda coach Carr wants to play for. Saleh stuck by Zach for weeks publicly even when the rest of the roster seemed to be out on him.
Yeah but the media and fans have been relentless. And it's not just a Zach Wilson thing, they've been this way forever. And it's not just football, it's that way for all sports in NY. That's why you see so many "great" players come to NY and struggle or flame out - it takes a certain type of personality and intestinal fortitude to play here. Does Carr have that?
You also have to factor in his desire to live in NY/NJ. When you add it all up (fans, media, taxes, climate, people) I think you need to pay him more to get him to play here. NY is not as attractive as people who live there think it is.
It's definitely no slam dunk that Carr wants to play here but I absolutely think JD should roll out the red carpet for him once he's released later today and do everything (within reason) to sign him.
I’ve always thought that once carr hit free agency we were toast. I think that’s the case even more so now that it’s actually about to happen. I think he ends up with New Orleans… He visited for two days, I think he worked out his next contract but didn’t want to do the raiders any favors on the way out. Even if that’s not what happened he’s going to have plenty of suitors that can offer better living locations, lower pressure markets and in some cases a better roster. I’ve been saying it in every thread but we are destined for Ryan Tannehill or Jacoby Brissett.
Just want to say thanks to the various posters for educating me/us about Carr. A couple weeks back i was down on him hearing he was not good in the cold, and i made various complaints to that effect. That still might concern me some, but his stats are much better than i expected and have to account for a fair number of cold games. Jets have a difficult decision. If they choose Carr it's almost certain that the term (3-4 years minimum) will need to be long enough that Wilson is a goner. If they pursue Rodgers it at least signals they genuinely think Wilson is salvageable.
It's the opposite, Jets fans are the most forgiving of QBs out of any fanbase. Just be better than bottom 10, and you get a cult following, and even if you're bottom 5, you get multiple years before they call for your head. No other fanbase would be close to that nice.
Can you give me an example of someone who was bottom five and got multiple years before the fanbase wanted to move on from him?
Disagree completely. It's not the fans or media that dictate how long a QB stays. You obviously have forgotten how the fans and media turned on Sanchez, Geno, Fitzpatrick, and Darnold, not to mention the latest whipping post, Zach. If QBs tenure were decided by fan and media voting all those guys wouldn't last 2 years.
And the fans were right about all of them. Even Geno; he finally had a good year this year after all this time, but it was the sort of year Derek Carr has had multiple times, and it's seen as natural for Raiders fans to want to get rid of him. Seriously, pay attention to fans of other teams and see what they say about their QBs. You've got Cowboys fans turning on Dak Prescott for crying out loud.
