If the plan is still to develop Zwilson, Garrapolo would be the choice as Zach would be guaranteed playing time with Garrapolo's annual season ending injury.
Get ready, why should next year be any different than previous bad years. It’s looking and going that way. This team will entertain for a few year till the stars play out the rookie contract and go elsewhere. Next year will produce the same if not worse record than this year. Get ready. Woody is in desperation mode right now trying to justify the 30% raise in ticket prices. That’s the only reason he is pushing for a QB. When he doesn’t get it, it will be interesting to see what he does next. Keep the draft picks, keep fishing for talent. Hope for the best
Paying for Rodgers would leave enough money to fix the OL and LB with rookies and band aids. Should be fun to watch.
Tired of the drama. This entire thing has a Kirk Cousins feel to it. If Carr becomes available, makes no sense to wait on Diva Rodgers. At this rate, the Jets will wind up with some B-list QB the PR dept. Will sell as the best solution. Worse still, sign JimmyG and make Zwilson QB2. That gives them cover to trot the boy blunder out on the field again when the inevitable season ending injury happens to Jimmy Glass.
It’s funny you reference Cousins and advocate for getting Carr. You realize Carr is going to cost more than Cousins and he’s not even close to as good as Cousins. Care’s absolute ceiling on his best day isn’t as good as Cousins, and we’d be stuck with Carr for at least 4 years, likely 6. Rogers bridges us for 2 years, and when he’s off the books is right when we’ll be paying massive money to Sauce and G Wilson, which will be the perfect time to draft a QB again and have him on his rookie deal. You only win in this league by drafting a star QB and getting it right. Occasionally you can steal a vet like Brady/Stafford and hit lightening, but you never ever build championships by committing to mid level QB’s for big money and multiple years. Carr is not as good as Cousins and he’s gonna cost more.
Point wasn't that Carr is better than Cousins. Rather, it's about Rodgers and all this theater he's bringing to the table. Cousins used the Jets to leverage his Vikings deal, then flushed the Jets like a used condom. Rodgers knows the clock is ticking but still playing coy leaving the Jets hanging. By waiting on the Diva to decide whether he's playing, returning or retiring, the Jets risk losing out on Carr and Rodgers. We will be dumpster diving for a QB again looking like the inept organization that's always loses. I DGAF if Rodgers plays for us or not. I don't want to see the Jets get stiffed again. Broncos had dreams of Rodgers too. They wound up with Russell Wilson. Epic fail.
My point was losing out on Carr is not a bad thing. Why in the world would we want to give up resources and huge money to commit 4-6 years for a guy that isn’t even as good as Cousins.
Because that guy is still better than both of the guys we presently have on the roster. That guy is also better than the Jacoby Brissetts floating around like driftwood too.
He pulls this shit annually. Will he stay or will he go. I'm at the point I DGAF what he does. Just cut out the drama. Turn down the noise. Maybe its the local media drumming up all this shit too. If we miss out on Carr because we waited too long on the Diva to decide what he wants to d0? I'll be pissed at the prospect of some B-list QB getting gassed up to be "the answer" by the Jet PR machine.
Correct. But he brings us from where we are to 6 years of mediocrity. 6 years of it. It’s basically an admission that we won’t win anything worthwhile for 6 years but we’ll win enough games to be mildly entertaining and occasionally gain false hope. I have no problem trying to get better, but committing to 6 years of mediocrity just because it’s better than what we have now is honestly just awful. Rogers is a 2 year bandaid that doesn’t affect our long term team build and while any SB is a long shot, at least we have a legitimate shot with Rogers. We have no shot with Carr.
We have no idea what kinda shot we'll have with Carr. With our OLine being in shambles and slow LB's, we don't have a shot with Rodgers either. It rarely gets super cold here anymore so we can take that off the table. This isn't Green Bay or Fairbanks. One thing we won't have to worry about is Rodgers waking up one morning and deciding he's done with football and wants to retire after a year. Besides the comp we'll have to send to GB, who out of our present FA's do we let walk? I'll take Carr for 4yrs over Rodgers for 2yrs. anytime. The only upside I see to Rodgers is he can mentor the Boy Blunder and perhaps save his career. Not sure if Rodgers actually wants to be a "mentor" though.
LOL exactly. The weather angle is a non-factor. I wouldn't put too much stock in Boy blunder ever panning out, those types of flawed projects that show little upside rarely do. I also think that would be a very secondary reason for going after Rodgers. I've been pining for Carr hard. I'm not happy about Hackett but we'll see how it works out. Carr is exactly what this team needs. A proven QB at the most important position without severely mortgaging our draft future. It also sounds like Carr is going to become a FA which is even better.
I don't think Rodgers is the one dragging things out. He can't do anything until GB makes a deal. JD can't do anything either. Not saying he isn't involved in whatever discussions are going on, but he can't unilaterally do anything.
It's not what I want, but I can see where Rodgers goes to LV while the Jets send Zach there in return for Carr. It allows Zach to learn under Rodgers for a year or two and then take over, while he also gets to be much closer to home and family. This also allows the Jets to keep MW as a backup, and eliminates the "Mike F'n White" shit. Personally I'm still hoping Rodgers comes to the Jets and they hold onto Zach and make an honest effort at developing him, but even without the Zach piece of it, Rodgers gives them the best chance of getting to the SB of all the options mentioned. I have mixed feelings on Carr frankly. The report of him having his feelings hurt by McDaniels criticizing him openly, if true, is a red flag - how will he handle NY media and the fans?
