If you are correct, then what difference would it have made to wait until the end of the season to fire the guy? I think there is more to this situation than we are being led to believe.

You still need to have someone that's designs plays. You can have a talented orchestra but, without a conductor worth a dam all you'll get is a bunch of discordant noise.

Again, I fully agree, but what difference would it have made to wait until the end of the season?

Or to repeat it. Which history tends to do. Especially with the Jets.

well my point is that if it was any other quarterback he wouldn’t have been fired at all. And it’s not outrageous to think that it would have gone better with a different quarterback that fit the system. Plenty of rumors that Russell came in and demanded that the system involves more vertical passing which just isn’t a staple of the WCO. That was pretty much the worst marriage imaginable and heck it was the easiest one to break up with.

This may not be popular, but I don't think Hackett is a bad choice. He has a decent resume as an OC, and seems to me to be light years ahead of LaFleur. As for Denver, Hackett had two of his better WRs go down during the preseason for an extended period of time (one was lost for the year). Also, not Hackett's fault that the Russell Wilson trade was so lopsided. They can't cut or trade Wilson because of his contract, so they fire the coach. Besides, Todd Bowles is a bad coach but a good coordinator--why can't Hackett be the same?

As to whether this is a prelude for getting Rodgers, be careful what you wish for--Rodgers could a cost a fortune in draft picks and cap space--he also wants/seems to command all the attention in the offseason as if he wants everyone to beg him to please come back. What if the jets pay a king's ransom for Rodgers, and then he retires after one year with the jets? He hasn't even confirmed yet whether he will play in 2023. I would not offer that much in draft picks for him, otherwise he brings lots of uncertainty at a VERY HIGH PRICE in cap space and draft compensation. Yes, I heard Woody is ready to fork over 2 number 1 picks for Rodgers now, and IMO that is absurd. How many players will the jets have to cut to even get close to affording Rodgers' salary/ cap number? Again, this will not be popular on this message board, but I (and others) WERE right when I/we repeatedly urged on this board NOT to draft Zach Wilson, who can't be moved soon enough for me.

There's a reason why Seattle traded Wilson.

Only if they were hiring him to be the HC, not the OC.

It's mindboggling that posters don't understand the huge difference between a coordinator's responsibilities and those of a HC. It's why I've always said I'd rather hire an experienced, successful college HC than an NFL coordinator as a HC.

Nope. Firing him midseason says "I'm sure the problem is the HC and not the aging QB we paid a king's ransom for".

I agree with the first part. As to the second part, I don't think it's going to cost them an exorbitant amount to get him from GB - after all we'd be doing them a favor getting rid of his contract from them. I'm hearing repeated suggestions of this year's 2nd, plus a conditional 2024 pick based on his performance and desire to continue playing...a 3rd if he does okay this year and want to play in 2024; a 2nd if he gets us to the playoffs; a 1st if we get to the SB with him. As to his salary, because it's been assembled by making most of each of the next two years, massive bonuses with little actual salary, the CAP hits are actually lower than for most starting QBs if I understand things properly. Overall, while not cheap, for a HOF QB it would be pretty reasonable and not tie our hands up going forward.
