Last year it was Mike White chants in the locker room. This year it was Mike F'ing White T-shirts. The Jets locker room really doesn't like Zach Wilson. That's clear as day at this point.
That they like and admire Mike White does not mean that they don't like Zach. If Zach turned things around and helped them win games, I'm sure they'd like him just fine (even if they still liked White more).
It's just not normal for a team to have the reaction that the Jets have had to ZW and White. Football is a very tribal group-oriented sport and for the locker room to so prefer a backup over the starter is just strange and unnatural.
And then there's this, for whatever it's worth, from whoever this is... Later... I never heard it back then, but Zach separated his left shoulder, in the Pittsburgh win. .
I don't know that I'd agree. I think it's pretty clear the locker room was skeptical about LaFleur also. Multiple WR's grumbling was a clear sign of that.
The like/dislike story is BS. It's this simple - 1 - on the field, the offense did not flow well 2 - off the field, MLF was force-fitting round pegs (Zach + Mims/Becton) into square holes (the system) 3 - while this was happening, MLF was not developing Zach. Instead he was tearing him down. Will Zach bounce back? Not sure. That said, Steve Young believes in him. And Steve Young's first 2 years were worse.
How do you know this? He clearly wasn't running the way he used to at BYU. Do you think these injuries had an effect on that? How many people said that once MW was cleared to play they assumed with him wearing a flak jacket there would be no effect? And then we find out his injuries were far worse. We fans simply don't know much at all about what's going on actually.
Isn't it the QB Coach's job to develop the QB? Knapp was never properly replaced after his tragic passing.
I read all of that differently. Firstly, as far as yesterday's bs, the players are all over the place, decompressing & probably just trying to not think of football, after a rather disappointing December+. For the rest of it... whereas they were once a team, early in the season, now I see a bunch of confused, disillusioned players that are divided into factions, due to a HC who lost his team, when he allowed all kinds of extraneous nonsense (tantrums, t-shirts, xmas costumes b4 games, etc), to disrupt his team. Any player wearing an MW t-shirt, should've been put on notice, but instead were allowed to disrupt the team. The media isn't gonna report who didn't wear t-shirts, or who don't make divisive comments. And those that just quietly go about their business, you don't see much on social media. I suspect many of those sources that shot down yesterday's bs, were players quietly making their thoughts known. .
I'd imagine they were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because 2021 was his rookie year. Plus it would be strange not to vote him captain. But at some point you have to deliver, even just to the extent of not being terrible, and it when it became clear by midseason that he couldn't do it, he lost the locker room.
steve young believes in him because they are both Mormons and BYU alumni. Those reasons have nothing to do with football
It would also have been strange if his college team did not vote him captain his last year there. But they didn't.
Because if you watch him play he was running and throwing fine. Seems like typical football nicks that a professional football player plays with. Mahomes played on one ankle (even though I think he embellished that a bit) yesterday and will finish the postseason with that injury.
I have a lot of respect for your Opinions Contrails...like I posted recently you were the one who thought Mahomes should be a Jet when I myself and other foolishly disagreed Sorry CC you are being foolish now with this homering for a #2 Bust selection
