Oh yeah, I agree they have to sign somebody to compete with Zach, or be the starter next year. Then they can find out in OTAs, T.C., and possibly P.S. if Zach can be the guy, but in any case they'll have someone they believe they can count on if he doesn't show them what he needs to.

 

I don't understand why so many comments still relate to Wilson Being "the guy." The Jets need a quarterback who can put points on the board regardless of who the other hanger-ons or trade-aways turn out to be. Who cares who that is? Every guy on the roster will get a chance to prove he belongs.

I don't know much about Olsen, but just from a practical place, if the Jets are interested in Derek Carr, bringing in Olsen would make a lot of sense. He has varied OC & QB coaching experience, & would probably be a carrot to lure Carr to the Jets. And having an experienced OC/QB guy, together with whoever else may be brought in as QB coach, and Carr to watch, might be the best of all worlds for Zach to sit & learn from, since he'll likely be on the team next season.

The smart move on Zach Wilson is to forget about him and then if he does things that make you reconsider you reconsider.

There's so much energy that an organization puts in to developing a young QB. When you have a guy that just isn't paying off it makes sense to withdraw those resources and put them to work finding another QB.

How does Zach Wilson respond to not being on the priority list in the OTA's and at the start of camp?

That will tell you all you need to know about his chances with the Jets.

 

I would too but only because it would be a very un-Jet like move. However, I would do it in an instant. Would it be expensive? Hell yeah. We're talking about a few years of 1st and 2nd round picks plus a big salary, but it would make the Jets instant Super Bowl contenders. For a franchise that has been starved of winning for so long, what's wrong with that?

 

Well for one thing, for all that investment, what if he's hurt? How much of an "instant SB contender" are the Ravens right now?

 

Injury is always a risk in football, but I think he is young enough to recover and hopefully learn how to avoid injury as he matures. The Ravens are not SB contenders because they don't have the weapons. The top receiver is a tight end and their best RB ran for only 500+ yds....less than Jackson. Jets have much better weapons and only need a good QB to thrive.

 

The big question is who put in more energy with Wilson - the Jets organization or the guys here who went all in on him on his Pro Day?

 

Like they said when they first fired MLF, they're going to cast a wide net.

I ultimately think they land on an experienced playcaller (Bevell, Olson, etc.) though.

 

Of course, before any deal is made, I would have him evaluated by the same 10 doctors that MW went to.

Lamar with a huge contract, we know Jets can’t pay everyone, Breece, Quinnen, Lamar, GW, AVT, some of these guys will leave.

Who’s going to fill their shoes if Jets give up serious draft capital?

I’m sure the Ravens will use all that draft capital to stay relevant for next decade and Jets will be starving for players because of a decision that had short term benefits but long term terrible consequences.

Jets are literally a good QB away from having sustained success as a team the way JD has been drafting, I say keep the organization on this path, keep your draft capital.

 

I agree the path you have outlined, and the Jets seem to be on, is sound. However, as you say, the Jets still need a QB and there is no guarantee they'll get one if they stay this course. When you have a QB the caliber of Jackson, it elevates the whole team to another level, so much so, I believe there are enough good players currently on the Jets that they can skip one or two years of top choices and still be a top 5-10 team for the next 10+ years Jackson could potentially be the FQB of the Jets. Teams routinely give up two years of top draft choices to move up in the draft to gamble on a college QB. In this case, it's no gamble, assuming Jackson's healthy. Besides all that, Jackson is an exciting player to watch.
