Correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't his dead cap only apply in a trade? In the scenario laid out above he's released by LV. His cap hit would have no affect on the Jets.

Dalton is four years older, and while he had a pretty good year, I'd be more confident in Carr. Dalton would probably be the best QB on the current roster as well to be fair.

He's 35 and on the decline. Carr is a much better option.

I don't think Derek Carr is going to accept a contract a low as you all are thinking he will. He will EASILY cost double what you can get Dalton for.

I'm not as confident as you in that point. I think Dalton brings a lot more to the table than some of you are giving him credit for. In this generation of "It's all about the QB" he has somehow managed to lose two fewer games in his career than Carr (83-77 vs 63-79) while playing three more seasons.

    Dude.

    Cold Is Cold.

It doesn't have to be more complicated than that. I don't trust he will be a good cold weather QB. It Is a concern for me.

Nothing more needs to be discussed there. I don't need you to agree with It, I'm not worried about your approval of my opinion.

It's simply that. My educated opinion. If people agree with It, cool. If not, cool.

It's a forum at the end of the day.

I don't need to define cold, we all know what the fuck cold Is. lol

We might as well just stick with Mike White If that Is the route we were looking to take. Doesn't make sense. No thanks.

If we miss on Carr, Lamar, and maybe even Rodgers, I wouldn’t be totally against Dalton.

If we sign Dalton, I legitimately think we might be drafting another QB in the 1st/2nd round though.

The Jets did not get much "serviceable" QB play last year, especially in the 2nd half of the season. If you sign an Andy Dalton or Ryan Tannehill or Jacoby Brissett, I think you get that with them, but that is it. Then you have the Sam Darnold's and Baker Mayfield's who can make better plays than those first QB's listed, but also make some truly terrible decisions and plays too. Gardner Minshew is like in the middle of those 2 categories.

I think Taylor Heinicke is the perfect QB2. I wouldn't mind signing him for that purpose.

So Derek Carr and Jimmy G should be the Top 2 targets for the Jets, but if they miss out, it will get very interesting.

I agree 100% with this, and I see no problem with this strategy

I see no problem with drafting a QB either if:
    1. They are 100% done with Zach.
    2. They see a prospect they feel can develop into a franchise QB.
    3. They sign a solid veteran to lead the team in 2023, which I guess Dalton counts as, but I don't think I would be too excited signing him.

You projected Dalton at 6.8 million. So 14 mil for Carr? Sign me up. He's definitely worth twice what a 35 year old has-been is worth.

This is what I found from a Packers website.

"The timing of when this trade occurs is very important as well. From a salary cap perspective for the acquiring team, trading for Rodgers is actually quite reasonable, with the Packers still being on the hook for his signing bonus. Green Bay, meanwhile, would incur a roughly $40 million dead cap hit – money that stays on the books even if Rodgers is playing elsewhere – if Rodgers is traded before June 1st. If traded after June 1st, the Packers take roughly a $15 million dead cap hit in 2023 and $24 million in 2024.

So if traded after June 1st in 2023, it is possible that the Packers’ trade partner could be without a 2024 first-round pick (and likely more), and Rodgers could potentially retire at that point as well, leaving the acquiring team without a quarterback again, and this time no early round pick(s).

This example is a prime reason why I’m not so sure that other teams will be lining up to offer Green Bay whatever they want. There are a lot of risks that come with this move. This is very much the type of all-in move for a general manager that could very well lead to them being fired if things don’t pan out. And in this instance, “not panning out” could mean falling short of making it to the Super Bowl. I’m going to guess a simple playoff appearance won’t suffice."

I'm not sure where you got the $98 million....

Hearing too much noise about LaMarr...

Carr is the best option when all things considered.

That's very deep but everybody has a different idea of what "cold" is. The only difference that might possibly matter here is how much the weather should affect an NFL quarterback. Very little is my opinion - yours may vary.

Brissett over Dalton in the situation that we strike out with the known guys and fail to try top trade up for Bryce Young

Ha! I was coming here to say the same thing about timing but my take was a bit different.

#13 is safe… so who cares about those 2 picks in the 30s?!?

Bakhtiari + Rodgers for 2024&5 1st rd picks. Done. Make it happen.

*I’m sure you could do conditional 1sts to guard against retirement

We’d be doing the Packers a favor by trading for Karen Rodgers

we already cleaned up one of their messes with Favre, let’s not help them out again
