Not a reactionary take ... been saying this for weeks. Unfortunately my evil genius plan for the Jets to steal him from the GMen mostly counted on him having a Mediocre performance in the playoffs. Each game he plays like today increases the likelihood GMen franchise tag him. But if he hits the open market for any reason. Woody needs to give this guy a blank check. LaGreca and Kay were scoffing at the notion he will get 25mil+ a year on an extention. Some Giants fans still think this. He is into 40m+ per year range right now and climbing IMO. This guy has been underestimated by the Giants FO for years (didn't pick up option) and definitely under appreciated by fans. The guy has been throwing to bums his whole career. New OC each season. Fixed his fumble-itis. If he is available Jets need to target him with every penny in woodys arsenal. He can be a top 5 QB in this league. Lamar is damaged goods can't stay healthy and will never be an effective pocket passer. Carr ain't a winner. Might get them to playoffs but won't go far. He always chokes. Fingers crossed the GMen A. Don't go on a SB run, and B. Fumble and let DJ hit free agency.
Right .... the same Giants FO who didn't pick up his option, like I said I don't know for sure about the NYG FO but Giants FANS have been disillusioned all season in regards to how much money he will command this off season. The Franchise tag on a QB is no easy pill to swallow. If you're a Jets fan who wants a Crack at him, you actually have to root for him to have a major dud/let down next week
Yes, the same Giants FO. Last year he sucked, and this year with Daboll he is great. The situation has drastically changed. It's a very very long shot that he will be a FA or a trade candidate. If he does shake free though or available it a trade, count me in.
Well 15 passing TDs for the season doesn't bode well for a franchise tag, as many Giants fans would have pointed out prior to the post season. Me personally, I saw through the numbers on this guy for years, but unfortunately if he has a magical post season ride the pedestrian numbers won't matter. Again, best thing for a Jets fan to root for is a major dud, like a multi turnover game or a game he just looks sloppy in. Won't be likely. Bc Daboll is really going to unlock him now, but it's the only way the NYG don't tag him. Otherwise he WILL be a FA, I'd guess NYG would have a chance to match, would just have to offer him stupid money like when Minn got Cousins.
Dan Jones isn’t leaving the Giants. And that’s his new name by the way. He’s evolved from Daniel. CIA Agent Dan Jones.
I'm not against Dan Jones but I'm afraid I do agree with the high potential for Lamar being fool's gold. I like Lamar but I'm not sure about roster-choking guaranteed contracts and no 1st round pick for the next 17 drafts.
I hear you but I don't think it's an ABSOLUTE lock the the NYG tag him at this point right now. I do think it's likey he remains a NYG even if he hits FA he will likely give them a chance to match whatever. Hey let me dream a little lol, Jets steal Daniel Jones as he enters his prime from the GMen Jets escape the trash can in 2026 and come back to Queens or Nassau. Oh, but Woody ... nm.
I think most likely they will reach an extension agreement. By all accounts he likes it there, working with Daboll. If not, non exclusive franchise tag is 32 mil, which he will get. We would not only have to give up stupid money, which Giants won't want to match, but also if they actually do not match, two first round picks. I just do not see it happening.
Daboll has made such a difference with Jones. Night and day really. His ability to pick up first with his legs whenever needed is very underrated also. All that said the Giants are about to open the vaults. They are keeping him.
Nope, but what I will bet is the late blooming of Jones and Lawrence, and to a lesser degree Geno and Darnold, is going to convince Woody that he’ll want to exhaust every chance of Zach Wilson having a light go on before he dumps 100m and draft picks into a veteran QB like Jackson/Garroppolo/Carr.
