We don't know if Clemens will be good. However, we know there is a ceiling with Pennington as the starting QB.
Exactly. And so many people on here are willing to waste this opportunistic time that this team has with young players and cap room on a lottery ticket qb,when we have a successful one starting already.
Don't worry about those two garbage time appearances by Clemens. Unless he sucks bad in OTAs and training camp and preseason games, he's going to play in the regular season sooner than you expect. It may not be in Week 1, but his time will come in 2007. In this era of the salary cap and free agency, QBs who get drafted in the 2nd round are not going to sit on the bench for years if they can play. Years ago some QBs would sit for multiple years. Teams can't afford to do that anymore. If Clemens is good, he's going to play. If Clemens does not play in 2007 it means one of two things. Either he can't play in the NFL and it was a wasted draft pick by the Jets or it means he is to suffer some injury that will prevent him from playing. The following was said about an all-time great quarterback after his rookie season: "He looked pathetic. He's throwing interceptions and he looks like he's never played the game. He had a long ways to go." The next year the guy was winning games as a starter.
I am not going to disrespect tomdeb because he backed up his opinion, but I'm still angry at all of you guys for posting Chad to Vikings and Excited for Kellen threads.
Interesting that you clipped the second half of my post. How 'bout we alter the first half of my post? We don't know if Clemens will be bad.
I didn't mean to clip it,i was just responding to the first part. We do have a ceiling with Chad. he can't throw the long ball. I'd rather have his smarts with a good RB than a gun slinging Interceptaverde.
I believe that we can sit Clemmens all we want. If he had been drafted in the first round that would be a different story. If we had a Cutler or Lienart on the bench they would probably get the starting job next year. There is no pressure on Mangini to play a guy we picked in the second round.
I agree with that. Pennington is the individual player most responsible for the Jets making a playoff appearance in 2006. I thank him for that. However, I don't expect him to stave off Clemens for very long.
We're ALL excited about Clemens. But clearly Pennington is the QB in 07'.He did enough this year to hold the job to me, and with another offseason of working out and possibly getting his shoulder fully healed and maybe even a slightly stronger arm with a good run game, then I think he'd be fine. I'll admit I wanted Clemens after the Bills loss, I thought the Jets were done. But Chad did put together 3 solid games and kept the Jets playoff hopes alive and ended up getting in, and he had a solid game against New England. Neither QB is getting traded, may the best man win in 07', but we all quietly know that Pennington is the favorite.
and then Chad wins the super bowl with vikings and we are back at the bottom of the AFC. Yea great idea. Let's jump write on that one. I hope this thread is not just the beginning of more similar horrible threads to come. =( I learn something from my mom a long time ago. If you have nothing good to say just don't say nothing at all.
No way would the Vikings trade their #1 pick for Chad why would any team do that. But if they did id be happy as hell we could trade that #7 to Oakland or Detroit to pick Adrian Peterson.
This is my point though. What do you know about Clemens that makes you think he could beat out a qb that has broguht the Jets to the POs 3 of his 3 healthy seasons? It's been a long time since the Jets had a qb that has had that much success. I don't mean to keep pounding this subject,i just think that a lot of people here were either not around or don't remember the pre 98 jets. (I don't mean you)
