i am apparently in the minority but i wouldn't fire him i saw a ton of open guys this year and we simply weren't throwing to them or near them (if we did throw to them). We had a very effective running game until we lost a game changing RB; Yes running game fell apart when we were running practice squad guys and third string O-line but i'll cut some slack on that. We had horrible QB play (regardless of OC ) and huge disruption on O-line; another year of mediocrity from C.Davis who was supposed to be a #1. If Saleh wants MLF then roll with him. I trust his evaluation of talent, including coaching talent 100X more than Woody. Saleh's neck is on the chopping block if MLF flubs again and i think he's smart enough to know that. If Woody was an owner who had a clue I'd feel differently. I would add a grown up to the staff, though, and they've already said that's in the plan Stop over-reacting to the last six games
And, what stellar OC is going to want to take a potential 1 year gig? Like you said, if they aren't cleaning house, there is no point. Keep the offense, and hire an experienced playcaller to work with MLF for 2023. If the team balls out, keep everything in place. If they suck, terminate the CS and start over.
If you are dictating who the HC has to use, If you are going against his vision. It's being hamstrung. If the coach doesn't know the offensive system like he does with the current one. It's being hamstrung. Massive upgrade Is subjective, you as a fan, think this. Doesn't make It so. Bringing him back continues continuity, which Is what this team needs. Not firing someone every other year. No world do I think firing MLF Is the solution. It will only cause issues. On top of that, why do you think any EXP coach Is going to come be the OC of this team with a playoff mandate ahead? You have ONE offseason to implement a new offense In a year where we have to make the playoffs or this entire coaching staff and GM will likely be gone. It would just be dumb.
You and @IIMeanDeanII should get lunch sometime! I wish I had that patience like I used to. You both make logical points that make sense though about staying the course for Year 3.
Think about It. If you fire this offensive staff. You bring In someone else, with experience, whatever. It's another NEW scheme, In a year where we need to make the playoffs or everyone Is gone. It takes time to install an offense, to gel, to make It work. We don't have time and I highly doubt any credible coach Is going to come here as the OC for a one year mandate for the playoffs. If this happens. The balance will be gone, the odds of failure will be extremely high. We don't have the luxury or time to be firing everyone for the sake of firing people. It's not about patience, It's about what the situation Is. The odds of failure are extremely high If Woody Johnson forces this. If MLF Is fired, It's because Woody wanted It to happen. Which means, the owner Is yet again meddling In things he shouldn't be. Which also means, another failure. So, If impatience Is what It feels like now, what's that look like a year from now when we fire everyone? AGAIN, just to start over, AGAIN. Rinse, repeat. I don't want that.
I agree on a granular level. I don’t think there’s an issue with the scheme, play calling, or play design. The personnel decisions leave a bit to be desired in terms of how they’ve tried to use Elijah Moore, Carter’s over usage and Robinson’s underusage. At the same time, if you want to build an organization on accountability, the Jets offense has been pretty putrid from an overall standpoint. The last six games magnified it, but the offense was bad for most of the past 32 games. Three straight touchdownless games, four in those six total games and it’s a fire able offense. I’d personally give the whole gang one more year. Forcing Saleh to shuffle his staff is only going to make him disinterested.
The one thing Woody prided himself on the most... The Back Pages of the New York Sports Media. They also won 101 games.. One thing the Mets and Jets still have in common is that they both choked at the end of their seasons..
It seems like MLF is the scapegoat/fall guy here, unfortunately. Sure, our offense has been unacceptable, but that's going to be the case when your QB group is league-worst level, no matter who the OC is. It is nearly impossible to overstate how important good QB play is. Until we fix that, our offense will never be good.
What I find fascinating about the Aaron Davis tweet, is that almost 3 hours later, after all the pushback from the Jets beat, he's posted other tweets about various signings, but hasn't retracted or deleted his tweet about MLF parting ways. So, either he really knows something, or he's perhaps looking to get into a different field. .
Spot on. In my career I have managed a few multi-million-dollar orgs and had to hire, fire, replace, etc. I understand exactly what woody is feeling having seen revenue and operational results that were less than planned. When you look at the root cause of a failed situation, you look at the plan, its design concepts. goals and objectives (which are not necessarily the same) and execution. In addition, you take into account mitigating factors- in this case talent or lack thereof, length of rebuild and metrics to prove success - not just win loss but how to you measure quantitatively (data analytics) how a player, CS are getting better, etc.) and then the results.... 20-46. In other words, you do a deep dive and denude who screwed the pooch and why. IMHO, there is nothing wrong with Woody's desire to do better... the speculation made by one poster - that he has a relationship with ZW seems to be just speculation and/or rumor, unless of course, that poster can provide verifiable information. Let me be frank, you appoint people to do their jobs and if they begin to fail you try to ascertain why? If you provide the necessary tools for them to be successful within a reasonable timeframe (if viable) to recover and they still fail, you fire them. It’s that simple... The failure to make ZW and the OL better is a failure on this regime. One tidbit I heard from JD's SOU presser was that that its RS’s responsibility to manage the coaching staff, etc. which if you read between the lines, it is tantamount to covering his ass for his own failures. Irrespective of what JD espoused on Monday, that is significant statement and one that i have heard throughout my career... my response always was, "if you knew or suspected there was an issue that could become a problem” and did nothing, then you are part of the problem not the solution. Conversely, if the other comment about JD and RS talking daily about everything and they stilled failed to mitigate the issue and/or problem - ZW/O= L then maybe just maybe they are not the right folks for the job. Sorry for the diatribe but IMHO this swoon is a failure of the regime...not just CS.
I'd rather they bring in an experienced run game coordinator who can get in MLF's ear when he tries to go Air LeFleur all the time.
Valid points, but of course we'll just have to ATD on your last statement. I respect your football knowledge despite our differences, but with Wilson I've just seen too much talent - that at times he's displayed at the NFL level - to label him as a bust or irredeemable.
I'm with ya. I was still ok with JD until the presser, when he professed love for Saleh, & that any CS changes were up to Saleh. Also, his comment about the D being championship caliber bugged me. They've improved, and are a good unit, but if he really believes that, he's not being honest with himself, & thus, may miss opportunities to really build a championship D. A middle of the pack run D, & one that doesn't create TOs, is not elite. .
I thought the offense was working pretty well before Hall and AVT went down -- and that was with one QB tied behind our back i'd like to think the offense would have gotten better and better if same crew continued throughout the year. I'd like to think next year QB absolutely improves and hopefully line too. We were using Uzi as essentially an extra lineman. Would be nice if we could afford to let him run some routes once in a while. if fucking-mascot Berrios catches the TD we wouldn't be out with pitchforks right now. That's how close we were even with all the other disruptions I agree with your point in bold a million percent
I will always remember that play he drew up in Green Bay for that fantastic Breece Hall TD. It was one of the more beautiful things I've seen as a Jets fan. If he's fired I'll cherish that memory.
