If it includes a mandate that Zach be the unquestioned starter, I agree, that would be a major SOJ-type mistake. If it's more of "We're keeping Zach and you need to find a way to develop him into what we thought he was when we drafted him, or find out for sure that he'll never be that", I don't see that as a problem.
Saleh ..and by extension JD are homering for MLF and that is really stupid Especially since there is no evidence the Team has performed well in scoring points I actually see some progress with Owner Woody as he is refusing to be conned by RS and JD who are content with the so so Jets (that are making them both millions). OTOH Woody wants Zach back instead of buying a Garrapolo or good Vet..will getting a new guy training ZW work ??? Who knows ? The decision makers are deciding..ROFL But Saleh and JD ??: Go ahead fools ..keep making the Johnsons angry
Lombardi Is a fuck stain. That said.. You either keep MLF or fire everyone. It doesn't make sense to hamstring the HC at this juncture. Woody needs to shut up and step aside or fire everyone. There shouldn't be a middle ground. If they don't make the playoffs next season. It's over anyway. Let them do their thing.
For all the criticism aimed at a 23 year old kid from the sticks of Utah for not being media savvy in answering a question after a tough loss, how about the performance of Douglas and Saleh on Monday? Instead of deflecting all questions concerning what they might do, instead they gave the impression that things would remain pretty much status quo. Did they clear this approach with the owner? If this report is true, apparently not. What they should've said was something like, "We need to take some time to really understand what happened, and to figure out what our next steps will be. In that regard, everything, and everyone's jobs are on the table". Unless of course they're own minds were already made up that no one's jobs were on the table. If that was the case, I hope Woody gave them some clarity about that.
I think Woody's reaction might be some collateral damage from Cohen turning the other underachieving team into a monster. With the ascendence of the Mets, that leaves the Jets as the perennial losing 2nd class franchise in New York and the spectre of the "SOJs" is starting to creep back into the lexicon of the fanbase.
If anything, seeing the Giants make the playoffs with a first year HC and a roster that is worse (on paper at least) probably bothers Johnson more than what the Mets are doing.
Eh I dont agree with this. If Saleh can get a Kubiak out of retirement, that's absolutely not hamstringing him and it's a massive upgrade. Depends on where they go after MLF but bringing him back makes your chances at making the playoffs even lower.
On paper - flimsy paper, but paper nonetheless - there are at least 3 former experienced, HCs with winning pedigree (maybe not SBs but way better than anyone the Jets have had for decades), available: Frank Reich Sean Payton Jim Harbaugh And now there's rumors that Sean McVay is "retiring". If one or more of these guys is available, I could definitely see Woody reaching out to them, and I wouldn't have a problem with that. I like Saleh, and think one day he'll be a good HC, but that day isn't now, and IDK if he can really learn what he needs to in this job. The team is ready to contend NOW, and needs a HC is also ready to do that. One of the above would fit that bill.
I'm leaning your way. It's hard to put out a good offense when the QB is so limited (that's kind for being terrible). The OL was dog shit most of the year. Breece got hurt. I'd like to see MLF with a decent QB and a rebuilt OL. I don't think they should pull the plug on him.
Firing Saleh and hiring Reich, a guy who was fired mid season, would be a bad look. Last time we did that it ended poorly (Gase.) I think Reich is a decent coach but I don't think you can hire him as head coach this year.
To the original thread title - So do I I was honestly anticipating and hoping for this where Woody would want a new O Staff and Coach Salesman would fight, argue, and ultimately get his ass fired too. Best case is get rid of them all already. I cannot endure another season of fools gold beating 2nd and 3rd string QB's and looking silly & unprepared against the real guys, same as we did this past season. I mean how many games can you watch where this team scores 6 points against shitty opponents?
Maybe, but there are lots of factors that go into firing (and hiring) decisions. He's got lots of experience on offense, and was the OC when the Eagles won the SB. He also had good, if not great, success with the Colts up until he was fired. I'm not saying he's my first choice, but I think he'd be a good improvement over Saleh.
I'd say he's ok success. 3 winning seasons, 2 losing seasons and a 1-2 playoff record. But I agree he would be an upgrade over Saleh.
I can't blame Woody for being upset with the results on offense. This is why I posted recently in another thread that I wish I knew the Jets true feelings and analysis of Zach Wilson. Because really that is what all this comes down to. If you really think Zach Wilson is capable and part of the future from what I'm seeing you can't possibly bring him back next year to work with MLF since they obviously don't click together. But if you think MLF has a good system and noticed that good things seem to happen with every other QB not named Zach Wilson in there when your not down to your 14th offensive lineman then you need to get MLF a QB and some offensive lineman and let him go score some points. Without knowing what the Jets brass feels about that Wilson vs. MLF dynamic then all speculation and guessing is completely pointless because you don't have the critical facts. I tend to think its more that Zach Wilson just isn't up to the job, at least at the moment, and that MLF could get some results with effective personnel.
I hear you but there’s no way to keep him on the roster and develop him without pressure to play him early and often regardless of camp performance. I also differ from you in thinking that LaFleur isn’t at fault for Wilson’s failures. I think he is what he is and as discussed ad nauseam, the chances of Wilson going from worst QB in the league to top 20 is very slim to none.
