Did anyone watch Sam Howell play? He looked exactly like Zach.

Kept running out his pocket to the right and couldn’t find anyone off his first read.

But threw very nice decisive passes when first read was open.

    Round 5. pick 144.

    Zach was wayyyy overdrafted.

If Douglas/Saleh/MLF believe that Zach can be their FQB, I would imagine they're going to want him to start next year. They may hold a QB competition, and if Zach can't beat who they signed - assuming it's someone who can be a legitimate starter, like Jimmy G, or someone of that caliber - then they'll go with the guy they brought in and let Zach be the backup, and maybe look to trade him.

If, however, they're not sure he can ever be the FQB - words of support notwithstanding - they'll be looking to bring in a big name - Brady, Rodgers, Lamar, maybe Carr falls into this category too - relegate Zach to 3rd string and hope he can resurrect himself enough to warrant trading him at some point.

Given the urgency they ought to be feeling, I think they're going to go with the big name and leave nothing to chance. This also enables them to put Zach on the back burner, express continued support for him while not pinning their future on him.

The direction they plan to go in will be revealed by who, if anyone, they try to sign/trade for in the next few months.

Bell was also damaged goods after sitting out a season. No professional player can afford to sit out a prime season in a sport unless they are playing another professional sport. It's just too easy to not do fully competitive things during that season and the league passes you by.

This is definitely part of what killed Bell's career. The Jets are the other part.

That signing was ownership demanding headlines. Just like the Tebow signing. Someone get the memo to Woody that developing a competitive team will create plenty of publicity.

We have zero OLine. Brady, Rodgers and even Carr not coming especially with MLF as our OC.

Chances of wooing a top QB with MLF and no OLine. If you are going to be this delusional - just start Zach already.

    Lamar Jackson…maybe.

I didn't say that they would just bring one of these big names and do nothing else. No matter who they bring in they have to fix the OL. And we really don't know the fate of LaFleur - or Saleh for that matter - Woody has yet to speak.

Slight amendment to my OP. After watching the Begnigno video in the "Questions" thread that Cman started, he raised a good point about Carr: Carr is still relatively young and not prone to injuries, so if they brought him in it likely means they're done with Zach. OTOH, if they bring in Jimmy G, with his injury record, it would be more likely they would keep Zach and continue to hope he can become the guy in a year or two. That said, they could also write Zach off and re-sign White and go with JG, MW, and Zach as #3 (unless they can find a taker for him).

A guy's height, in and of itself, is not a major factor. Brees obviously could see the field and make the right decision. It's when a guy can't see the field that his height becomes a factor. There are some guys who could be 6' 9" and still not see the field.

The Bears had the worst passing offense in the league. Fields averaged less than 150 per game. Not good.

Hackenberg was 6'-4" with horrible accuracy issues so there's one example. However, Mike White is 6'-4" and is far more accurate than Hackenberg or Zach at 6'-1". Brees saw the field quite well, but he's a generational talent. Zach Wilson at this time couldn't possibly be compared to Drew Brees as he can't see the field. Our OL dwarfs Zach so downfield visibility is an issue unless Zach rolls out. We seen Zach roll out and he's much better outside than standing in the pocket especially one that is collapsing. Allen, Burrow, Hebert, and White all can stand in the pocket and see the field.

IMO, give me the taller more stout QB over the smurf. Especially with NFL players getting larger every year.

My point was not one of physical line of sight, which hardly matters if the brain cannot process what the eyes are telling it.

Isn't that a critical trait for a QB to have?? I would like to think our scouts are better than being smitten by a off-platform throw on Pro day. Draft the bigger QB who can play. There's seems to plenty of them available. Kenny Pickett is 6'-3". Good place to start size wise.

i think he'd be an interesting path for us at QB because of this. We haven't seen much of him but he has been in the same QB room as Rodgers for the last few years. It is a complete throw of the dart, though.

Being in the same QB room with Aaron Rodgers is like being in the same QB room with Patrick Mahomes. You aren't going to get much of practical value out of the experience because they can do things you could never do in your wildest dreams.

As a side note if the Packers thought Love was really good they'd have let Rodgers leave and avoided paying him the huge money they are. That they signed him to a huge new deal before the season tells you that they don't think Love is going to be a plus NFL QB.

Zach is closer to 6'3 than 6'1 Drew Brees is a great example of taking four years to develop. The Chargers actually drafted his replacement.

it would've been an extremely hard sell to not give that new deal to the back-2-back NFL MVP

They spent a 1st round pick on Love in 2020. Good organizations will move on when they know they have a good option moving forward. Obviously they don't view Love as a good NFL starting QB.

Next season is year 4 for him.

Okay... Just how tall is Zach Wilson? He seems to grow an inch every time this question is asked. The only consistent thing about Zach's height is that he's not 6'-4"..

I believe he measured 6'2 and some change at his pro day. I will try to find it

    6'2 1/10″ tall

At the 2021 BYU Pro Day, prior to becoming the No. 2 overall pick to the New York Jets, Zach Wilson measured in at 6'2 1/10″ tall. It's hard to know if the Jets considered that before they took him.Nov 3, 2022
