Yeah, I know it won't happen, but I'd like to see the jets at least explore with Minnesota the thought of trading Pennington to the Vikes. They need a QB badly, and Chad is an excellent dome QB. He torched the Vikes in the Metrodome in December. Also, Chad's trade value will NEVER be higher than right now, and the jets could likely get the Vikes 1st round pick, which I believe is #6. I think Chad is a great warrior, and I appreciate all he's done, but I don't think we'll ever get deep into the playoffs with him because he can't throw long or scramble . Yes, I understand that means we play Clemens or someone else next year, but how will ever know what Clemens can do if we don't play him? Just a thought, an idea, don't panic people.
Only if we had a definite shot at jemarcus russel but he will gone before 6 i think. But if it was between russel, chad and quinn my order would be russel, quinn then pennaboy
Even when the Bengals made Palmer the starter way before the season started despite him having no experience, they kept Kitna around a year as a backup. And that was with an early first round pick. No way the Jets do that, even if they think Clemens might be able to start next year.
Clemens will get his turn. It would be crazy to rid of Chad after the year he had. 17 tds 16 ints is not bad considering the running game we had this year. And toss out the stat books and just look at the fact that Chad is a winner. He gets it done when he is at QB. Eventually Chad will be replaced but he's at his best right now and I'm not willling to ship him off for some other draft pick. At some point you want to keep your core players and go from there. Chad is a core player.
You are going to get killed for doing this tomdeb. As far as your idea goes, I have to disagree. I don't think we can get much from Minny, and the fact is there isn't a better QB out in the market that the Jets can replace with Chad. I mean, realistically there isn't anyone who the Jets can actually get via trade or F.A. signing. And I don't want to hear Clemens> Chad, because at this given moment in time, he isn't.
   Good stuff. As a big Chad fan, Minnesota would be very dumb, More than Bradway dumb, to do that.
Not even Minnesota's that dumb. The most we could get for Chad would be a 2nd. That's called a reality check, flame me all you like. I love Chad too, but he's still only had 1 full season over a 7 year career, mostly due to injuries, and a twice-surgically repaired throwing shoulder. To give a top-10 pick for him would make Minnesota a laughing stock for a long time.
You are completely right and you are being realistic. Even being a huge Chad fan I realize that we probably couldn't get anymore than a late second or third rounder for him. Teams do not trade for QB's with an arm that has had two surguries
When healthy,Chad has got us tot he playoffs every time. He is the type of QB that needs a good running game to be successful, yet he still led us to the POs this year without it. Next year,we will have that running game which will set him up for success. If he has a bad year next year, then we should explore options. But we have huge cap room,a young team that just got some good experience and some young coaches to lead the way. With this opportunity, throwing it away by getting rid of the most successful QB we have had since Namath shouldn't even be in people minds right now.
Chad's not going anywhere simply for the fact that he and Clemens will duke it out in TC for the starting role. Whoever doesn't get the spot, gets the #2. We MUST have a backup for either. Clemens will see his first real action if he starts, and who knows what happens. Chad is still a risk for injury, and he isn't getting younger.
Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens are going to have a battle royale for the starting job next season...Chad isn't going anywhere.
As much as I bitch about chad, and believe me i do, i would like to see what he can do with a healthy offseason. this is the first time since after the '02 season that he will not be rehabing. maybe if he concentrated on strenghtening his arm he can make those throws. I would want to trade my mom if i felt it was the only solution, but for some reason i want to see what a healthy chad can do
Exactly. The only time he has seen in an NFL Game was Garbage Time when the Jets were either leading big or being blown out. And he wasn't impressive in both attempts. People need to give him time if they expect him to be the future QB of the Jets. He's not going to develop into a start over the off-season.
