Well, I supposed I could get used to watching Mosely trailing most plays too. Mosely isn't worth his '23 cap hit as he's mostly reputation now instead of actual results. Mosely's hit will be over $21m this year. Do you REALLY think Mosely is a bargain at that price?? We can find guys to trail plays for a lot cheaper. Mosely doesn't blitz, doesn't stop the run, and mostly tackles guys who already are open over the middle on crossing patterns. He's a liability trying to cover TE's. Everyone gets older.
Yeah if you factor in his pay it does take the shine off a bit. Love to see some young hard hitters at linebacker. If you can't win games you might as well leave a mark on your opponent...
Mosely made one impact play in the whole season and mostly either got victimized or accumulated non-critical downfield tackles. It'd be tough to find a linebacker who makes less an impact at his salary. As evidence: he almost singlehandedly lost the Detroit game by missing his assignment and then loafing downfield trailing the play at half effort. Mosely hasn't been an elite LB in a long time (and never with the Jets-- he's been a great example of a FA signing not providing the ROI expected)
Right, I’m not saying cut him. That’s silly. But he’s the backup until he earns the starting job. What I’m saying is JD needs to find starters for both RT and LT, and Becton is the backup going into camp. If he’s healthy and playing better than the guy ahead that’s great. But if he pulls the same shit as he did last offseason and shows up unprepared or can’t stay healthy we can’t be stuck with our pants down and no options again.
Cut a player to send the team a message that injuries will not be tolerated. So we're cutting AVT and Breece Hall as well, right? Becton absolutely cannot be counted on to even contribute next season, let alone win a starting spot, but it costs nothing to see if he can bounce back and saves nothing to cut him. It's a no-brainer.
He was elite for the first few quarters of his Jets career against Buffalo. Not even sure if you call that a taste though. Barely enough to get excited and then it was quickly taken away.
Berrios and Corey Davis are easy cuts. Braden Mann should be too, and the Jets should sign a punter every other week until they find one with consistency. Absolutely ridiculous that we didn’t keep Moorestead when Mann was down. He was kicking the life out of the ball. Do the Jets save anything if they get rid of Mosley? The entire linebacking corps needs to be revamped. We don’t have a single player that can play three downs effectively unless they’re blitzing.
Jets 2023 Salaries: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cap/ Carl Lawson gets 15M with only 333K as dead cap space?!?!
Here are my top 6 notices that need to go out regarding cuts: 1. Mann 2. Flacco 3. Mann again (just to make sure none of us ever have to witness his God awful sh*tty punts again) 4. Flacco again (ensuring he properly receives his retirement papers) 5. Mann AGAIN (a 3rd notice to him is necessary, that way Jets management remembers to update their system to not let this kid back on the premises, all security staff should be sent this notice too) 6. Flacco AGAIN (his 3rd notice can state even in the unlikely event of him getting 10 more starts as a Jet, he still wouldn't earn a 2nd win, so you're "services" are no longer needed)
Mosley's situation is complicated because of the restructure after the opt out. If we cut him we incur a massive 14 million dead cap hit. If we keep him he costs 17 million this season, and will still have 10 million guaranteed going into 2024. (Would be 10 million dead cap hit next offseason). Releasing him this year holds a big dead cap hit and leaves us with another LB hole. But keeping him is expensive and still holds a considerable dead cap hit next year.
