Well until we actually hear something definite the uncertainty is bound to make all of us veteran Jets fans nervous. But Woody may be waiting until he has a better replacement lined up.

So Saleh is going to pacify Woody by doing this and nothing will change. Great!

I'll be disappointed if this is the "fix", but that said, they hired Cavanaugh as a Sr. Offensive Assistant last year and that seemed to help.

But I'm not sure Woody and the Jets understand the gravity of the situation if this is all they do.

Only thing that would change anything would be to bring in someone like Kubiak as an assistant head coach and basically cut MLF’s balls off. Otherwise it’s just gonna be a dog and pony show.

I hope you're wrong, but fear you're right.

Two things can be true at the same time. Keep that in mind.

LaFleur wasn’t a good coordinator this year based on the output. But that doesn’t mean he ruined Wilson. This thread is almost creating a lot of conspiracies.

Any thoughts adding Bill O'Brian as OC.

Do you really think Kubiak is getting off his couch to come hold MLF’s hand? If we want Kubiak then fire MLF and get Kubiak.

I wouldn't say he ruined Wilson, but I do believe he has retarded his development. That said, I'm NOT saying Wilson doesn't own responsibility for this as well.

Probably not, but short of someone of that caliber (successful ex HC) no veteran coaching presence is going to limit whatever bullshit MLF contributes. The guy is a terrible play caller, has zero feel for the flow of the game. Add to it he’s had multiple offensive players call out his system in 2 seasons. You don’t see the defense doing that shit. And then he holds grudges. The thought of doing the same shit and having some random “veteran” coach with no teeth added to the offense should scare everyone on this board because nothing will change.

Great, so we can look forward to this cocktease again next year too I guess. I’m getting less optimistic by the day

It was a huge mistake to get away from that in the second season. Think about it, Saleh is a defensive guy, MILF is not very experienced and hasn't really worked with any QBs, and the QB coach is Calabrese who is up and coming guy, but has no credentials whatsoever. I guess the thinking was that Zach won't need any support in second season since he improved at the end of first, but it backfired in a major way. At least now Saleh understands his big mistake, which is progress. Now that there is entire offseason ahead, we need to get someone better than Cavanaugh though. Cavanaugh hasn't really worked with major QBs. We really need someone of Knapp, Kubiak caliber. As you said, the gravity of the situation cannot be underestimated.

I said it in the other thread, no way Saleh fires MLF. Not gonna happen.

@Ralebird we were discussing this earlier but JD came out today and specifically said that it's Salehs decision. So unless Woody steps in, MLF is here in '23.

6 straight losses to end the season?

Tanking a season then completely blowing the draft and ending up with a worse QB than you had when you started to tank?

I don't disagree btw, but there's a lot of ineptitude on show at the Jets.

There may be business reasons for keeping LaFleur, there may be operational reasons for keeping him; stretching one's imagination might create a rationalization for either. The single thing that cannot be rationalized is keeping LaFleur because of personal reasons. Anyone supporting such a plan should be deemed unfit and removed from any decision making position.

The person responsible for "offense", has overseen the production of these two seasonal stat lines:
    2021- 26th in YPG, 28th in PPG
    2022 - 25th in YPG, 29th in PPG
    -----
But yeah, some claim he's a great play designer....

Teams in the past have made changes in the middle of the season at OC. It is practical and possible. Anyone who believes they can score more than 3 points in a game will take the job.

Also coaching. Injuries happen everywhere in NFL. Good coaches over come it. I do not think it was injuries, it was predictable play calling with no adjustments. Ran the ball against Bills, ran against Vikings, then all of a sudden can’t run football? Lost Vikings game because loser MLF threw the ball 55 times. Showcase how smart he was. All I see is Rucker’s amazing blocks from Miami game. Oline struggling, maybe use the rookie TE who is known for blocking? MLF is a Madden OC.
