Leaf didn't play his second year due to injury. And Russell sat his rookie year in part due to the holdout and wasn't even that bad in his second. He only fell apart in his third year. So neither of them got a third year after two awful ones.

Unless there's some really bad stuff happening with him behind the scenes with his commitment to the game or personality, which I mostly doubt, I agree there's no reason to dump him. At the minimum, he's a high-ceiling prospect and worth developing. I'm certainly not betting on him becoming a great QB at this point, but it's still possible. Can't know for sure after 2 years. But what we do know is he can't be depended on as a future franchise QB anymore. He has to really earn it going forward. I hope they can acquire a legitimate starting veteran QB (any of Carr, Garrapolo, Daniel Jones, Geno Smith, maybe even Brady (lol) would do even though several on this list are unlikely), a decent vet backup (I'm okay with Mike White or someone like Brissett or Minshew), and then Wilson as 3rd. Every situation and prospect is different, but letting a QB sit and watch for a year or years behind a good starter sounds damn good to me right now. Wish we did that from the start though. Little tougher when the QB is entering year 3 of his rookie contract, but still worth it

Plus, he's uncuttable from a cap perspective and what's his trade value? Nobody is giving up a 1st or 2nd for him

Also, do we talk about the QB coach, Rob Calabrese, enough? Not sure what's reasonable to expect from him, but the needle sure hasn't moved with Zach under his watch.

Yeah, agreed with Calabrese. Has to be fired. If the team is keeping LaFleur, then I would hope they hire someone new to work with Zach. I am fine with a completely new offensive staff working with Zach though.

Agreed with bringing in a veteran QB to start, but Zach should be the #2 headed into 2023. If he is not good enough to even be a back-up by August, then it really will be time to move on. He needs to show signs of improvement this off-season, Training Camp, and the Pre-season.

Yep, that is why an argument can be made to move on from Zach. It was the opposite of an ideal season. I personally would not, but if a solid veteran QB is acquired, I would not complain at all. I want to win.

If we get a durable veteran QB (so like Carr and not Garoppolo), I have no problem with keeping Zach as the backup. But you can't have him be QB1 or even be in a competition for QB1.

You can let him compete in camp but if it's even close then they signed the wrong vet.

Every quarterback on the team should be competing to be the starter; protecting anyone including the incumbent, a draftee or a free agent can lead to a situation where the best choice to win a game is on the bench.

If they sign a vet that has a 10 year body of work that is excellent and he happens to have a bad (limited) preseason where he is out performed by a second year 2nd stringer or 3rd stringer, are you suggesting that the those guys should start????

No. That's not at all what I suggested; I haven't stated any terms at all - I'm pretty sure even this coaching staff can figure out which guy is best as long as they don't need to weigh things that have nothing to do with performance and are to save face for someone.

You're 0 for 2 tonight, which is not in the slightest bit surprising.

Josh Dobbs wasn't with a team 2 weeks ago and he already looks more competent than Wilson.
More I look at other young QBs around the league more I'm convinced there's nothing to salvage

It's the NY Jet's inconvenient truth.

If it's not the worst quarterback pick I've ever seen... it's the worst quarterback coaching I've ever seen.

After watching the breakdowns of his bad games, it's hard for me to blame this on coaching. There were multiple open plays in the second Pats game he missed.

Don't see how that negates the coaching aspect.

If you mean shitty throws then yeah... that's (mostly) on Zach.

I salute anyone who can bear to watch TL tonite. I turned the game off after realizing our consolation prize for beating the Jags will never be as good as Trevor Lawrence.

Should've gotten an experienced QB coach after Knapp's tragic passing. A rookie QB coach and OC was the worst combo for a rookie QB.

Titans offense is functional with Dobbs at QB against a Jacksonville defense Zach Wilson struggled against.

The Jets are better than Tennessee at TE and WR and couldn’t do anything in the pass game. Huge indictment on Zach Wilson and the entire offensive coaching staff.

It’s rough to watch, but nice to see him become what he was meant to be under a better HC. He was almost ruined last year.
Would the jets have ruined him?

Yeah but when we were in those lost seasons there was big debate about tanking and many fans said they were tried of losing. Never want to hear that debate on this board again bc this is the result.

Why do you believe that??? It’s wishful thinking. There has been NO tangible evidence that he can develop. He hasn’t improved AT ALL in year two. He is still the same guy….can’t see the field, wildly inaccurate, misses open guys…it’s been EXACTLY the same.

I don’t blame the coaching, I blame the fucking player who can’t complete a pass to the flat to an open receiver. It’s unbelievable to me that people refuse to see what is in front of us. He sucks. The stats don’t lie…not after 20 games. He’s terrible.

I wish it weren’t the case but it is.

You gotta get over it. We had to go 0-16!!! It's almost impossible even with a coach like Gase. Saleh won 4 games with the similar shitty roster, even worse at the most important position. Heck even Jaguars who openly tanked still won a game. And even if we did get to 0-15, Belicheat would make sure we didn't get Lawrence in game 16. Lawrence was not in the cards, as simple as that, there is no need to beat yourself up over it.
