I came across the Saleh quote in a story on the Jetpress. Of course it doesn't seem rational to start White this weekend. It's looking now like that call is up in the air as White was only limited in practice today and avoided reporters something he allegedly has never done. I guess Flacco gets the start and maybe a dose or two of Streveler.
There is no perfect solution but an 8 team afc playoff is more fair than a tie. Like it or not, a tie is rewarding the Chiefs for a tragedy. I know fans wouldn’t like that but the players throughout the league would not be ok with that at all. They are a brotherhood. Also, there is 0 chance the Bills or Bengals players were getting extra rest this week during their “semi bye week” smh
An 8th playoff team is rewarding a team for the tragedy also. The Chiefs didn't force the Bengals to stop playing. At some point, someone has to be an adult and take accountability, and it shouldn't be the Chiefs.
My apologies, reward a team at the detriment of another. Also. I hope EVERYONE appreciates Jets fans shitting on the only option that opens up the Jets chance for getting into the playoffs. Unrelated side note: When I say Jets fans are the worst, I don’t mean that every Jets fan is terrible. I mean the ones who are bad are the absolute worst fans imaginable.
Given these unprecedented circumstances and at this stage of the season, the fairest scenario all round is to void the Bengals / Bills game. So they both play 16 rather than 17. Decide seeding based on win / loss percentage. Play the AFC Championship game at a neutral venue, so that no team benefits from a catastrophic injury causing an abandonment. I believe a large stadium in New Jersey may be available for such a scenario. This won't apply if you value a game above humanity. But that's up to you.
A tie is obviously not an option but some things will clear up after this weekend. If the Bills win and the Chiefs lose, there is no 8th seed, Bills get their bye If the Bengals beat the Ravens, they win their division But if the Chiefs lose and Bengals win, the question becomes, who hosts Baltimore and who hosts the Patriots? Bengals are an incomplete game behind them in the standings but the Bengals beat them head to head. ——— If the Chiefs win and Buffalo loses then Chiefs get the bye and there’s no 8th seed Same scenario as above but now the Bills and Bengals are exactly tied in record, conference record, and their head to head is incomplete so it would go to the next tie breaker. This is probably what the NFL is rooting for. _____________ If the Ravens beat the Bengals, the Bengals will have a better record by an incomplete but the Raves would have swept them and have a better division record. —— if that happens AND the Chargers win, I bet the Ravens and Bengals play their playoff game at a neutral site. I’m rooting for: Jets Buffalo Chiefs Browns *Jags
they should have 8th seed in regardless. The season is so short and would keep the league more entertaining and fans involved for most of the year. 16 teams isn't even half the teams so it would be nice even if a team started bad to not have to end the season at week 5
NFL just announced that Bills-Bengals game will not be played. Not sure what this means yet though https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...t-resume-amid-damar-hamlin-continued-recovery
Sounds like they put in three potential scenarios, none of those include adding an extra playoff team.
16 teams is exactly half of the league's teams. Adding yet another additional playoff team is just a silly option, which is probably why it's the one the NFL will almost certainly go with. Doing so opens up the playoffs to trash teams like Washington, the Jets, Mami, and so on. The Jets have no business being in the playoffs, which is why they've been eliminated. If the NFL throws them, and all of the current AFC also-rans a lifeline, they're an even bigger joke than we already thought them to be.
If the NFL adds another playoff team at this late juncture, what happens to the futures bets which were made with regards to playoff qualifiers, Super Bowl winners, etc? For example, if the Jets do happen to make the playoffs, does a losing wager on the Jets to make the playoffs automatically become a winning wager? And if you had a wager on the Jets winning the Super Bowl, and by some miracle they do, will the bookmaker honor your wager, even though the Jets were officially eliminated from playoff contention after Sunday's Seahawks game? Will the wager no longer apply? We're not talking chump change here, considering the substantial sponsorship revenue which the league generates from the top sportsbooks. You want anything else with that can of worms you're about to open? One would think the league currently has its hands full, as their risk management crew is working overtime to limit exposure from an occurrence where the proximate cause appears to be unprecedented or extremely rare in NFL game history. Certainly, this is not an issue the league can afford to put on the back burner, as they did with the concussion issues back in the day. Somewhat ironic that a league which was able to play all its 2020 regular season and playoff games during the pandemic is now faced with a cancelled game which has the league scrambling to make sure the proverbial apple cart doesn't end up getting upset.
Imagine if the Jets win and get in and then get hot and win the SB. I know it's a long shot, but I like the fantasy.
