You only get rid of the coach if there’s a legitimate NFL coach out there to replace the current one and subsequent staff. Replacing Saleh with another first time head coach is a completely useless reset. Douglas gets one more hire. GM’s get two hires, not anymore than that though. But you retain Saleh unless Payton, Harbaugh or someone else someone can sell me on is available.
Unless we’re getting Harbaugh or Payton then Saleh deserves at least another year. If we had gotten to 7 wins in a different order most people would be over the moon. We also lost a ton of good players to injury. I think that is something that needs to be addressed. I know the NFL is a tough league but we always seem to have a ton of injuries to key guys year in and year out. The only common denominator there is the owner.
Good head coaches don't lose this many consecutive games. Period. Nor get embarrassed coming out of a bye week. He's a nice guy, seems like a good "culture" guy, but his team is typically unprepared and outplayed at the outset of games. That is not all talent gap. A lot of it is coaching-- both scheme and discipline-- and the Jets grade low on both.
Maybe I'm just livid, but in my opinion - You come into this game with 10 days prep, and this is how you look. Fire everyone.
Clock management, no feel the QB situation, refusing to ever blitz against Qbs that struggle against it. He gets a F
This was a bad look for Saleh, not doubt about it. I still don't think other coaches, aside from the very best ones, would be able to do any better than Saleh with these QBs. Even this game was winnable with a decent QB performance. I'm in a charitable mood for some reason, so since I voted C for Douglas, I'll vote B for Saleh. Could have voted C though. Also for the people who gave Saleh a D, I hope you also gave Douglas a D, or you're going to be really disappointed if the Jets fire Saleh and keep Douglas.
Upside: Nice guy... Players coach... First time HC. Downside: Total collapse at the end of the season. He gets a D because we did win more games than our last two seasons combined. Other than that? D-. Really long learning curve for Saleh. He's starting to look like Bowles on the sidelines.
Solid F, team just like it always have done historically completely collapsed. Don't panic he'll make some desperation move fire a few coaches, and will get another year.
I really thought we were getting a high energy coach which was a good thing. Instead, he really is starting to get that Todd Bowles corpse look. Like he's dead but hasn't realized it yet.
It’s tough. We go into Week 18 with a (extremely long and lucky) shot at the playoffs with probably the worst QB play in the entire league sans Indianapolis and Houston and drastically outperformed both those teams. At the same time you have to go 1-1 against the Lions and Jags at home. I can live with losing to Seattle today. It’s somewhat expected because it’s not like they’re some loser franchise that’s been eliminated. They were fighting for their playoff lives just like us and it’s one of the toughest road environments in the league. But you can’t lose to The Lions and Jags in back to back weeks. Edit: Meant Week 17.
He deserves credit for the defense. Even today, the defense was not why we lost. He's a defensive-minded coach with no QB; what do you want him to do?
The Jets have been eliminated. There is no scenario that gets us to the playoffs. Best we can do is finish in a tie with New England.
