Josh McDaniels is the head coach. He was awful in Denver. Are t every veteran QB we are looking at let go for some reason?
He is going to be cut. Period. No one is picking up that contract. A guy who basically averages 4,000 yard seasons is what you are calling average? He has been at the very least top 15 his entire career.
No one is trading for him. No one wants the guaranteed contract, including raiders. That is why he is being cut. Blows my mind people can’t see this.
We can still run It with a rookie. The idea Is to have sustainable success. To be a win now team, year In, year out. Drafting a rookie Isn't out of the question and settling for an average QB Is silly and WILL set us back In the end. We need to be smart about this. JD needs to be smart about this. Hitting the panic button Isn't a winning formula and locking yourself In a box Is definitely the wrong mentality to have. We aren't locked Into shit, just gotta figure It out. All It Is. I don't think Carr will be the best option available. So, we can just disagree right away on that because you and I do not see that the same.
Best case scenario, win or lose, is Mikewhite plays well in last two games and the talk of bringing in overpaid mediocrity such as Derek Carr or Jimmy Gee is laid to rest. A White/Brisset combo may make most economic sense, since the Jets should be looking for the best bang for their buck. If MW doesn't play well, then Jets are once again behind the 8 ball at QB position, since they still have to pay Zach some decent coin for riding the pine, unless they work out a buyout deal with him. Assuming White does not receive an astronomical offer to pack up and hit the Turnpike, all efforts should be made to retain him since he would make a top backup/platoon option and also provides leverage going into the open market. If the brass determines, for whatever reason, Mikewhite is not the answer at starter after these last two games, then exploring trade possibilities should also be an option, instead of desperately relying on an underwhelming free agent pool. Despite Zach's Whiff Avenue clearance sale (every #2 item must go including Zach - we accept all lowball and highball offers), no legit reason why JD should not get another swing at finding a QB who can execute and fulfill the team's vision going forward. If nothing else, the GM and CS have shown an ability to rise above the noise and confusion which comes with the territory when having to satisfy a starving fanbase in the country's largest and arguably most demanding market. Historically, cleaning up toxic waste at the Meadowlands site has been an expensive and difficult undertaking.
There is no way JD is tying his career to Mike White unless forced to because there are no other options. The questions of Jets can get to playoffs with Mike White will be answered in next two games. So far this season, he has not even had a lead against a winning team. The bears game was against a team that was completely awful that week. 5 FGs and 1 TD against Vikings, 1 TD and FG against bills. All have heard all year is with average QB play Jets are playoff contenders. There is a chance to get above average solid play in Carr and everyone whines about how much they want White and Carris not worth it. Carr might be the only way you get out of QB misery. Solid guy for 5 years, develop successor behind him. This is what good teams do. There is no Mahomes without first being an Alex Smith.
Yeah but this could easily lean the other way If things shake out right the next two games. Mike White has a chance (In 8 games) to achieve what Derek Carr has achieved (In 8 years). A singular playoff game. Odds are, It probably wont happen, but, It could. Mike White has a chance this year to achieve more than Carr. If they do find a way to get Into the playoffs and win a game. Highly unlikely, still, that possibility Is real. Mike White doesn't have a lot of expectations for a reason but If we are looking at the two In a similar light, It's probably a sign to avoid the big money contract and continue to find the answer elsewhere. I just don't believe the answer Is, Carr.
Until he Is cut.. It's not out of the realm of possibility that someone will trade for him In order to secure his services for their team. Will he likely be cut because teams know they have a small window to do so? Yeah, most likely. It's not true though, until It Is true.
Which rookie? Young and Stroud are probably gone top 3-5. And are Young/Stroud sure things? Beyond that sounds like a crap shoot to me. Forget about Carr where we disagree on a player, but you think JD is betting his career on a non top pick rookie in this draft class? He first needs to prove the team can win to even keep the job. Then he may take a shot at a rookie if someone like Fields slides and he trades up or something along these lines at some point in future drafts.
Carr has been to the playoffs once... He has never won a playoff game. Please spare me the Carr raw raw... Dude Is on his way out of LV for a reason.
Yeah. Drafting a QB Isn't going to make or break the situation. So, who cares? You draft a promising rookie QB In this situation with low expectations but It at least gives the team a shot at a potential FQB later. Obviously we will need stability In case a young rookie doesn't pan out. Doesn't change anything. The team has already proved It can win with this ongoing QB carousel we've had all year. The system works. We have a lot of young talent on this team now, a great core. Now, they got the most important piece of the puzzle to fix. You don't box yourself In to something, you don't push the panic button, you explore ALL avenues. Then you do the best you can with what's available to you and It can be multiple avenues that JD ends up dipping his toes In. Which Is fine. He just needs to explore It all and figure It out. All that matters.
There are a lot of different ways the Jets can go at QB for 2023. All-in is probably the worst of them. A smorgasbord offers more opportunity to improve.
What have they won? 7wins, 9 at the most. That’s not winning. That’s middle of the road. QB position needs stability. I am not advocating a trade, but if cut you have to get this guy. The same people saying wins are not QB stats are saying Carr is no good because he throws for over 4000 yds a season but made playoffs once.
Did you see the stat @dawinner127 posted? Carr has had the worst defense in the league over the past eight years. Not his sole fault they haven’t won a playoff game. And he’s gotten there twice. The first time he was hurt but he was in the MVP race (finished 3rd) in 2016. They have a down year after that, clean house and Gruden trades away all of the good players for draft picks.
expectations are not low here. this is a playoff ready roster. if the front office and coaching staff dont produce a playoff team this year or next, they will be gone. also, carr has made the playoffs twice. he couldnt play the first time because he broke his leg ... its tough to make the playoffs when you have a dominant team in your division, as we know. signing carr would not be boxing the team in or panicking, i dont know where youre getting this notion. any contract he signs will be just like his last extension and have an out after one year ... it would buy us time with at least league avg play until the guy we draft is ready to play if white mike plays well while getting us into the playoffs, this is all moot ... but signing carr is far from a desperate move for the jets
I like Smorgasboards ! Especially the Roast Beef Baked Ham and Shrimp So the Jets have Drafting another QB Jacoby Brisset D Carr G Minshew Jimmie G and Mike White on the Menu?? Sometimes you can load up your plate with a little bit of this that (yum) But these selections cost millions and you have to choose a starting dish...and that means all in Right?
Defense rankings since Derek Carr became the starter: 2014: 32nd 2015: 22nd 2016: 20th 2017: 20th 2018: 32nd 2019: 29th 2020: 30th Not a surprise that the year the defense is ranked 20+ they go 12-4 and make the playoffs. He’s been asked to carry that team and organization on his shoulders. That’s not who he is and He doesn’t need to be that with us, just be QB12 every week and they win a boatload of games. Maybe some weeks he’s required to win us a game, maybe some weeks he’s a passenger, but he’s shown for 8 years he’s more than capable of being that guy. I don’t know how anyone can say with confidence that MW is a better option than Carr. MW has finished 3 games from start to finish in his career. Carr has 8 years of being a top 15 QB (at a minimum) on shit rosters. There is absolutely no chance Douglas and Saleh tie their careers to MW unless he goes on some magical run this year. Even then I could see them bringing in Minshew to compete. I am so against trading for Carr, but if he’s cut, I would absolutely prefer him over Jimmy G, Daniel Jones, or Baker Mayfield (i can’t believe people on this board actually want Baker but that’s a conversation for a different thread).
Yes, right now White is a wild card in this race. At this time it is hard to imagine JD ties his career to Mike. But White can change this narrative if he plays great the rest of the way and the Jets make play-offs, then he plays well there. Honestly, if indeed he performs at very high level and leads us to the play-offs, then does well there, maybe even wins a game, I think JD might just make him a starter, giving 15 mil a year or so. But as of this moment that hasn't happened yet, so currently Carr to me is indeed the best option, subject to change depending on Mike White's performance the rest of the way. Not trading a 1st or 2nd for Carr, but say White is injured again or doesn't play that great, and we have a chance to sign Carr as a FA for 50-60 mil guaranteed over two years (25-30 per), plus 3d non guaranteed year. I would certainly do it. Btw, check out the odds on where Carr will play next year https://www.oddschecker.com/us/insi...am-odds-what-uniform-will-the-qb-wear-in-2023
I just don't understand why everyone is overlooking Mike White. In the games that he has played accept for the Buffalo game last year he has shown that he is legit. Like many of you I would like to see how he does the last two games. If he puts up good numbers lets sign him to a two year deal. He clearly deserves the chance to proof himself. Also he will be much cheaper than Carr or Jimmy G. I never liked JG. He gets hurt all the time and only wins because he plays for niners. Also we are gong to need to save every dime because our entire OL is going to beoverhauled because Mcgovern, Fant, and herbig will be free agents. Duane Brown probably won't be back for his second year. AVT will be back but Becton is a huge question mark so the jets are going to have to draft another tackle and center and spend money on free agent OL. So spending money on these seasoned QBs just doesn't seem to make alot of sense when White seems to be good enough to run the Jets offense.
