Carr Is being let go for a reason, he's always been average. No way In fuck Is he the answer here. This shit Is maddening sometimes. Let It go.
A huge portion of this fanbase is so beaten and battered that “better than what we have“ automatically equates to “good“. Just have to hope the front office realizes there’s no need to make a panic move and picking up the remainder of that contract while also doling out draft picks would absolutely be a panic move.
If we actually go with, Carr. Especially If we trade significant resources for him. He will be the reason we re-enter the rebuild protocol. It's so obvious to see, yet, here we are, getting excited for an average QB possibility. It literally blows my mind.
This is unlikely due to McDaniels not having free rope to play with. You only get a couple of seasons to establish things and then season three is a killer for coaches lately. Any coach who gives up a season intentionally is fairly likely to find he's taken strike two not strike one.
This is spot on. Assuming we sink money and picks into acquiring him there is no way we give it less than two years and by that point some of our best players will be up for new deals and we will be heading into a rebuild, selling them off for draft picks and starting all over again. Panic moves like this send franchises into a tailspin and cost people their jobs.
Because average is the best you can get when you blow #2 QB pick and have a win now team. A few years after that we either get lucky somehow, like KC did with Mahomes, or will need to rebuild again. The price of missing on a QB with #2 is that high I am afraid.
not necessarily. San Francisco blew it just as badly and they are one of the best teams in their conference. That’s the only thing that leaves me somewhat optimistic… This staff comes from a program that knows how to win based off of defense and scheme. Add on Joe Douglas who also knows how to win when your franchise blows it taking a quarterback super high in the draft…
Says who? Where does It say anywhere that we have to settle because we missed on the #2 pick In the draft TWO years ago? Where Is that rule? This logic makes absolutely no sense.
They had Jimmy for most of the year. Same guy who carried them last year. With Jimmy injured they had bunch of losing seasons. That's that average QB that Carr is - he can carry a good team, and also he is not injury prone like Jimmy is. Now, did they get lucky with Purdy? We will find out. But they did bet the farm on Lance because they know you need a good QB to have a sustained success.
The logic says it is extremely difficult to get even the average QB. It does not have to be written down anywhere to understand the reality of our QB situation. Or were you planning to take Mahomes for a spin since Carr is not good enough?
I really don’t think Mike White’s ceiling is that far off from Jimmy G. He can easily serve that exact same role. Of course a lot depends on how these last two games go but if he plays well and especially if he gets us into the playoffs, it’s an absolute no-brainer to bring him back, cut bait with Zach and bring in a younger guy that you try to develop while White efficiently And maybe at times very vanilla-y runs the offense.
The point Is... Nowhere does It say we have to "settle" just because It's hard to find a good QB In this league. You don't settle, settling Is why we've been dog shit for most of the teams existence. Settling Is for losers. There are many avenues this team can go for a QB. Carr Is not the holy grail of anything.... There Is the draft, trades, In house potential, etc... You don't have to throw the farm and set the team back In the long term by blowing your load on an average at best QB. If you can get him In here without giving up an arm and a leg from a financial and draft resource standpoint. Cool, do It. Otherwise. Hard pass.
The SF trade up was always insane. It's really hard to trade up the #3 when you know 2 QB's are going ahead of you. Not sure why they did that with Jimmy G in hand already. Would have been much smarter to just take a QB on the #12 where they started. Odds are pretty good they would have gotten Lance there instead of spending 2 extra 1st round picks to take him.
That's thing, there aren't many avenues. There are only 3. Draft is the best one, and we blew it by not picking Fields two years ago. Now - it is out of the question because we have a win now team and need a competent QB next year, not a rookie. Other avenues are trades and free agency, and Carr is the best realistic option there. QBs that are a lot better than average rarely become available. Watson was an anomaly. Now, I wouldn't blow a load on him, meaning multiple first round picks and 50+ mil contract, but he could be a FA come Feb 10th, and maybe we do need to pay around 30 mil per year for a few years. We will just have to wait and see. You can call it settling, you can say it is for losers, but the reality is, there are no better realistic available options at the position for the Jets 2023 starter than Carr. So, is it really setting if you get the best available option? I like Mike White too, and I am trying to extend him before he hits free agency even if we do end up going after Carr. At the time of this writing though based on the sample size I am not prepared to declare him 2023 starter and forget about Carr.
The more I think about it and after listening to several pundits on the Radio the Carr signing makes sense Even if White somehow gets us into Playoffs we might consider this deal Can Mike White stay healthy or is he a 2-3 game wonder? Decisions ..Decisions yikes
I’m not sure what the right answer is but since when does 6 games of Mike White equal 8 years of career success including only 4 missed games that Carr has produced? Carr is tied for tenth all time in lowest INT. Mike White has played six games…
If you look at Carr, after his rookie year, where he was going through growing pains as a 23 year old, he has been playing at high level for 8 seasons. Of these 8 years, two years, his worst, were 2015 Fitzmagic type seasons, including this year. 3 years were Pro Bowl years, including one MVP candidate season. 3 years were in between of Fitzmagic and Pro Bowl. He is also durable, had only one injury in his career, missed only a few games. If you get him, you have a competent guy, whose floor is Fitzmagic year and ceiling is Pro Bowl. He will be expensive, but not as expensive as top QB stars in the League. Could he put us over the top? He's been winning 7-10 games on a team with one of the worst defenses each year. It could be worth to find out what he can do with good defense that the Jets have. With Mike White the danger is the small sample size, though I like what he did this year, and there are still a few games left to evaluate. But maybe that will allow us to keep him for less and still go after Carr. It's far from a guarantee that we can get him.
im a huge white mike advocate and i see the pro carr side if we make a run with white and he plays well, obviously he should be the guy. but his sample size is super small. if he stumbles the next few games, signing (not trading for) carr makes a lot of sense. either way, we should be drafting a developmental qb in the 2nd-3rd round to make sure we have options in the future
