Room? Y’all got it out for Zach that much? OL has been a sieve lately. Tomlinson has been a bust at LG. Fant has been bad at RT. Can’t run the ball or pass block at all. Bam Knight was a cute story. He also is a nano second faster then James Robinson (who continues to be a healthy scratch). He can’t get anything going. This system needs those quicker faster type backs and MC/JR/BK all don’t have it. Honestly surprised Ty Johnson hasn’t gotten more of a look. He has the burst needed that may negate some of the OL’s massive issues. Zach is the type of QB that needs a good/great run game and that’s what carried the offense early on the season. White could somehow manage more because he’s quicker to make decisions. But he also had a decent run game somewhat when he started. Even I don’t think he’d be able to manage with this piss poor OL (partly the reason he’s hurt now).
Nope. Nothing is worth talking about until we have a QB. Period. We whined all last year about how bad our D was. In one season it’s too 10. We whined all year about how bad our WR’s are. In one year it’s a formidable WR room. We whined how we can’t run the ball and found Breece Hall. We whined about the OL, yet even with all the injuries it still performed pretty well this year. None of it matters until we have a QB. None of it. SF ain’t winning a SB with all their talent because they don’t have a QB. Same for TEN.
RB's are only as good as the OL playing in front of them. With all the injuries, the OL aged rapidly. Brown and Fant probably should retire when this season is over. AVT will be back and we have no idea if Becton ever will play another down for the NYets. The running game always helps marginal QB's and would have benefited Zach Wilson no doubt. Better OL play would have kept MW's ribs in one piece too. JD still has a lot of work to do on the OLine.
I can't agree more. JD really struggled to put a good OLine together for years now. And next year we are in a tough spot. Brown and Fant suck and likely are gone. Laken stinks, which is a huge disappointment, since he was an all pro last year. CMG is a FA. Herbig is a FA. AVT will be back, but now there are concerns about his durability. Becton cannot be counted on. We have to resign CMG, and probably sign a really good Tackle, plus draft another Tackle of a Guard with a high draft pick. JD needs to sort this out. I really hope he can, though so far he has not shown that.
Most of the offense needs work. QB - clearly a problem WR - they have 1 that they can count on OL - not good, but with a real QB under center who can see the field and make quick decisions as well as getting guys back from injury, they’ll look a hell of a lot better then they have RB - Hall may not be 100% to start the season but a healthy OL and a QB that can keep defenses honest should improve things for whoever carry’s the ball I think it’s hard to judge the entire offense due to Wilson’s play at this point. The book is out on him and it makes the Jets offense the worst and most predictable in the league when he’s under center. They were a different team with White and while they still had issues, it provided some perspective on how the current personnel will perform with reasonable QB play and 1 legitimate playmaker on the field.
It hasn’t been good, but amazingly we ran the ball fine with the same cast and a different QB. Protection has been a different story somewhat. We ran for 5 YPC against the Vikings and Bears and 3.5 against the Bills. We’ve been pitiful the past two weeks because they’ve loaded the box.
I love drafting big, fat white guys more than anyone else on this forum but even I’m getting to the point where I feel we’ve invested a lot of financial and draft capital in an OL that is still five shades of shit. We are going to start getting roster holes elsewhere if we keep “addressing the O-line”. It surely can’t be that hard to obtain some Slauson-a-likes that actually play seventeen games rather than going for the boom-or-bust signings.
OL is a major late season disappointment but I'm honestly not worried about it. They'll be getting 3 linemen back in the offseason that I believe makes us one of the very best OL's in the league. Also, Joe Douglas takes pride in the OL. He'll fix that just because he takes pride in having a good OL....
It amazing that some think the guys who play defense on the other side of the ball are just bowling pins and all we have to do to run the football is knock 'em down. The reason we can't run is simple, defenses don't think Zach can beat them passing so they concentrate on stopping the run. That's the way it always is when you have a weak QB playing the position.
After Belichick showed opposing DCs the way in the second Pats game, we will never be able to get a run game going with Zach under center. They stack the box on every play because they know Zach can't beat them in the air.
The running game and QB are inextricably tied. Defenses stack the box when Zach plays and dare him to beat them with his arm. He can't, so both the running and passing games suffer.
If the running game doesn't work, the QB has to make some plays through the air. DC's obviously don't think Zach can do this.
OL got Mike White killed and no showed for Zach on Thursday. run game disappeared when Breece went down.
First bills game ran for 174. Who was QB? Oline has been garbage since. Max Mitchell out, Herbig got hurt and did not play in Pats game. They got White killed. You can put your head in the sand and believe that everything is Zach’s fault, or we can be honest about the issues. QB is one, Oline is one, LBs are one, and safeties.
If we're going to have any hope with Zach, we need him to grow a beard. Then maybe the defense won't recognize him, and they'll leave a couple rushing lanes open.
