Games like last night make you question why you waste so much time as a fan on a team and franchise that do nothing but disappoint you and make you feel bad.

I am not sure it is worth it anymore. I have wasted a lot of time on the Jets and literally got nothing out of it but a few playoff wins in literally 30 years.

I decided to make this thread as help or a lesson for other fans. Don't be like me. Don't take the Jets too seriously. It will upset you and that is not healthy.

Don't waste your time watching all of the press conferences, posting on message boards, watching film/highlights, listening to talk radio or watching ESPN/NFL Network. It is not worth it. Get out and enjoy life. Find other hobbies you may enjoy!

I was really high on Sam Darnold when he was drafted and it ended in disaster. I thought I was done then, but I thought I would give it one more chance as I was also high on Zach Wilson. This ended even worse somehow.

I am not saying to stop being a fan of the Jets. They are our team. It is what it is, but don't invest your time or heart in it. Don't let them ruin your day or week or Christmas. Not worth it. Sometimes it takes awhile to realize this, so for the people that have not yet, I thought I would post this.

I am thinking for 2023 just watch the games each week, then move on. Don't waste time in between on the team.

Don't give such high and outlandish expectations either like believing a team can go (10-7) and beat teams like the Lions and Jaguars at home either! :)

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2023!

I was you the last 5 years. Unfortunately it doesn’t last. I got pulled back in this year and it’s just as annoying as it was when I was fully invested. One thing I did learn years ago was not to let this shit dictate my moods. Thankfully I was able to stick to that. It’s just entertainment in the end and not worth getting legit angry over.

The NFL and professional sports in general have been losing their luster for me for a while. You are rooting for what amounts to a corporation, and the nature of the competitive side of the business is becoming something closer to what the WWE was before it had to stop calling itself a sport.

Personally, I feel like we’re doing a lot right and we’re a Qb away from greatness…for a long time. We didn’t hit on Darnold or Zach. The o-line is meh, but it seems workable with a competent QB.

We went into the season not expecting much and we damned near made it to the playoffs. Yeah, it hurts that we aren’t getting in this year, it’s been a real roller coaster. Thinking back on it a lot of us were saying 7-8 wins would be a good season for us and that’s about where we are. It looks like we’re a little ahead of schedule and that’s a good thing.

Not ready to take a step back, a little hurt, but it’s not the same hurt as us going 2-15.

I’ve found my interest in football outside of the Jets has been drastically decreasing. It’s the haves and have nots. If you don’t have a FQB, you have nothing.

Gardner Minshew, Jimmy Glass, Mike White, Streveler, Winston, etc…won’t do it for me.

I’m sure my decreasing interest in the Jets is soon to follow.

Yeah, that is what I have to work on. Can't let it dictate my mood. That is a great way of saying it. I think it comes from caring though, so that is why taking a step back can be necessary. I always try to remain optimistic in life and with the Jets, but they make it difficult. Of course last night was an extreme. Any fan would be bummed out watching that mess.

By the time they have a FQB, all of the young players now will either be up on contracts or out of the league

I was 100% sucked back in this year. I haven't been this invested since the Rex and Sanchez years.

There are few fan bases in professional sports who get beaten, abused, and humiliated time and time again, but that's what makes us who we are. It takes character to continually root for a loser. The NY Jet fan is a unique specimen and hands down the most loyal.

But one thing I promise all of my fellow Jet fans, when or if we ever climb to the top of the NFL, the world will never see a more drunken and wild group of degenerates celebrating in the canyon of heroes.

That's why I always laugh, everyone including myself thought this organization was finally over the hump, this is exactly how this team has been since it's inception

Get you fired up, them rip your fucking heart right out, it's the same old Jets, always has been always will be

If football upsets you that much that it affects the other aspects of you living life, then yes you need to walk away.

I’ve never understood people pouring their souls into a team. I love the Jets but it doesn’t ruin my day or week if they lose.

I withdrew my passion a few years ago. It’s not worth it. I’m not saying I don’t enjoy football, I’m still here. But the game has changed so dramatically. It’s tailored for fantasy football and gambling. Team focus has changed to QB focus. Gone are the days of varieties of offense. There used to be ground and pound, run and gun, air Coryell, West Coast……. Teams could shape and mold their offenses based on their location and their talent. Nowadays it’s either you have a franchise QB or you don’t. There’s nothing else. Derrick Henry may be the greatest RB of all time, but Ten can’t win it all because they don’t have a top tier QB. Tannehill is not awful: he’s not great but he’s not terrible. Old school days you could win with him. We don’t have a QB. The rear of the team is nice so far, but we don’t have a QB. And we won’t until we draft the right guy for once.

My kids won't be Jets fans. When they woke up this morning I told them Christmas was cancelled because the Jets lost in pitiful fashion.

I used to get really pretty down when the Jets lost - now I just don't much care - decades of nothing but disappointment eventually numbs you to it - same when England got knocked out the world cup in the quareter finals - I knew they wouldn't win it so I just didn't really care when the inveitable happened - the only bright spot on the sporting front is Newcastle United got bought by some saudi investment fund and so it is able to compete with the top teams financially and (sadly) in football having deep pockets is about the only thing that matters and so in the next couple of years I am expecting them to finally win some kind of trophy (after pulling a Jets and shitting the bed in the 90s and throwing away their only chance to win the league) - but even then if it doesn't happen I am not bothered.

This team is unfortunately just one of those teams that will never get it right - and the sooner you realise this and just go with the flow the easier it becomes ;)

NFL as a whole gets less and less interesting to me - it is such a QB driven league that there is really only ever 10 teams at most that have a realistic shot and everyone else is just treading water unless or until they manage to land a good QB

Yeah, when I was younger a Jets loss could really hurt. Then you grow up and realize there is much more to life. I just made this thread for anyone who is like me and devotes a lot of time to the Jets. Maybe step back and devote less time. Even in a pretty fun season like 2022, it was not worth it. I came to this realization, so I thought I would share it with others who maybe how not got there yet.

@The Dark Knight literally what he said. I gave up caring so much but got sucked back in with the turnaround.
The Jets are a mood killer, just treat them like a tv show lol and move on the best you can

Yeah, I like that. Great way to handle them. Maybe it will be a good episode, maybe your favorite character will be killed off. Either way, move on to the next episode! :)

trouble with the Jets is every season is like season 8 of Game of Thrones - at the start you are hoping for something great even though you know its going to be brutal - then you get to the end of the season and go "actually, that was crap, wish I hadn't bothered to watch it" ;)

Fan since the early 80s. Since moving to sc in 07, I have definitely taken a step back… not having it all in my face all the time. Of course 09,10,14 I payed more attention. This year they definitely roped me in again. But there’s nothing we can do about any of it. So getting too invested…. I’ve learned to step back
