Can someone post all the starting (or better yet, all ranked/Top 40) quarterback ratings for 2006 regular season? Boldface Chad's place in the AFC, we'll see where he stands ranking-wise and numbers-wise. Please post both AFC and NFC, though we know the NFC numbers are skewed higher because the conference bites. Thanks !
Let me play Devil's Advocate, just because so many want to rip Chad: (1) Brady -- no argument. (2) Manning -- yeah, real clutch performer. Did he beat Chad head-to-head ? (3) Palmer -- team underachieved (4) McNabb -- injury prone, teams flopped in clutch when favored at home in playoffs. (5) Bulger -- team missed playoffs.....IN NFC !!!!! (6) Rotherlesbereger -- lousy this year, lousy in playoffs in 2004 and 2005 (7) Brees -- legitimate back-to-back seasons, but again, didn't beat Chad in playoffs. (8) Rivers -- has slumped lately and done nothing in playoffs. Will be on hot seat when Brees advances and San Diego chokes against Pats (Eli will be smiling). (9) Carr -- an early April Fool's joke (10) Alex Smith -- done nothing (11) Brett Farver -- yeah, much more consistent than Chad and much less interception-prone. (12) Romo -- Chad holds for PAT's better than him. (13) Kitna -- what's he ever done? Besides 3-13 in the NFC ?? (14) McNair -- best years 5 years back (15) Young, Raiders QB: 3 years early before ripening.
It's hard to agree with that when they've been so awful whenever they've tried anyone else at the QB spot. I guess you must not have been around for the seasons prior to him starting, and the games prior to his starting, and earlier this season when he had that concussion and either wasn't starting or clearly wasn't himself.
Am I the only one that has watched Peyton Manning in the playoffs? That choker can only dream of playing the game Chad did yesterday against the Pats. If you want to win a Super Bowl, you don't take Peyton, and as a result, you can't list him as great anyway. This isn't a comprehensive list, but from another board: INT's per year based on career average (based on games started avg) (including 06') From lowest to highest- Mark Brunell - 11.31 Donovan McNabb - 11.76 Michael Vick - 12.42 Steve McNair - 12.52 Jeff Garcia - 12.70 Tom Brady - 13.28 Drew Brees - 13.84 David Carr - 13.87 Chad Pennington - 13.89 Matt Hasselbeck - 14.40 Trent Green - 15.10 Carson Palmer - 15.29 J.P. Losman - 15.33 Brad Johnson - 15.34 Peyton Manning - 15.40 Marc Bulger - 15.73 Jake Delhomme - 16.26 Aaron Brooks - 16.36 Daunte Culpepper - 16.95 Ben Roethlisberger - 17.20 Eli Manning - 18.05 Brett Favre - 18.43 Kerry Collins - 18.60 Joey Harrington - 18.67 Jake Plummer - 18.94 Vinny Testaverde - 20.08 TD's per year based on career average (based on games started avg) (including 06') From Highest to lowest- Peyton Manning - 30.56 Brett Favre - 27.95 Carson Palmer - 27.73 Daunte Culpepper - 26.10 Marc Bulger - 25.33 Tom Brady - 24.96 Donovan McNabb - 24.80 Jake Delhomme - 23.74 Jeff Garcia - 23.65 Trent Green - 23.48 Drew Brees - 22.92 Matt Hasselbeck - 22.80 Eli Manning - 22.15 Aaron Brooks - 21.87 Chad Pennington - 21.76 Brad Johnson - 21.51 Ben Roethlisberger - 20.80 Vinny Testaverde - 20.77 Mark Brunell - 19.41 Jake Plummer - 18.94 Kerry Collins - 18.81 Steve McNair - 18.72 J.P. Losman - 18.00 Joey Harrington - 17.46 Michael Vick - 16.96 David Carr - 12.59 Personally, I think Chad ranks around 10-12 pretty easily, and outside of maybe 6 guys it's hard to consider any of the guys above him a clear improvement. I think McNabb and Brady are clearly the best two QBs, and after that there is a pretty big dropoff to Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Carson Palmer, Ben Roth for now. I think Cutler is the real deal, as is VY. Chad needs to up the TD production, but generally he is pretty efficient and not our biggest problem.
I think the point that Chad haters don't get is that Chad is no Cinderella story, he's a first round pick. This isn't a charity league and he ain't a charity case, there's a reason scouts had him rated over other very successful college qbs (the Danny Wueffels, Koy Detmers of the world ect....) without ideal arms. It wasn't a secret that Chad didn't have a gun coming out, and, to me, the weaker his arm is the more complete the rest of his game is if he got that first round grade. That is obviously what the scouts saw and why Chad was picked where he was. What I see now is the same guy I saw coming out of college and in 2002, only smarter, more experienced. Thing is, there seems to be the perception that Chad came as is, that there was no learning curve and he peaked as soon as he put on a uniform. As if a smart guy can't get smarter and more perceptive with experience. As if he's he's not gonna get smarter and more perceptive after this year. To me he has he still upside and is only gonna get better the older and more experienced. It was incremental and it a few years for Brady and Manning to run a game at the line of scrimmage and Pennington picked it up in his first year. To me that is talent and I can't believe people aren't more astounded than that. Chad's arm isn't getting better but his game does have upside. Yes, gunning a perfect pass into triple coverage is something special, but so is recognizing a blitz and switching to a little dink screen pass for 7 yds. To those that say we'll never have a running game cause Chad is qb and they stack the box please contact C-Mart and ask him about his best year ever and what a liablity Chad was that year. Yesterdays game- In my opinion, no qb in the league was was winning it for the Jets. Whatsmore, please give me a list of qbs that has the guts to stand in the pocket like Chad did yesterday after taking the shots he did. I think us as fans have to recognize the we will truly never understand what Chad or any qb brings to the table. I don't know what a hand signal to the left means or the terminology is. I don't know if he's switching out of a play or faking it. The only measurables I need to know his whether he wins and whether his teammates believe in him. I think Chad has answered those questions. Like I said folks, this ain't a charity league and there are reasons Chad was picked in the 1st, got his big contract, and commands the respect of his teammates, even if we can't see it.
5 8-8 teams from the NFC have made the playoffs since 1999- FIVE! None in the AFC, only ONE NFC team thsi year had a winning record against the AFC. the AFC has been light years ahead of the NFC for about a decade or so now, sure there have beena few really good teams in the NFC(a couple of SL teams, TB, Philly) but only a few and we easily would have multiple SB appearances if we played in the NFC and we'd have byes nearly every year and yes SD '04 eaisly would ahve gotten a bye and maybe homefield and NO this year would have been lucky to make the playoffs in the AFC.
OK, 5 8-8 teams have made the playoffs in the NFC. So what? How does that equate to "multuple SB appearances" for the Jets? There are plenty of weak teams in the AFC(the Jets played them all this year). Where you get the idea that the Jets would have multiple SB appearances and byes "nearly every year" is beyond me. Even if the Jets were in the NFC they never would've been the best team any of the past 5 years.
The Jets easily would have won the NFC in 1998, we probably would have won it in 2002, we would ahve had a chance in 2000, 2004 and this year. It's alot easier to win when the competition is weak and competition in the NFC has been extremely weak while the Jets have been one of th most successful AFC teams in a tough division w/ a dynasty team. he can take an AFC team to the SB but we need to upgrade the talent around him but any of our playoff teams and even some of our non-playoff teams would have been good enought to challenge and/or win the NFC.
Wait a minute, we're talking about Chad aren't we? So what do 98 and 00 have to do with anything? I don't know how I get into these nonsensical arguments with you junc, I believe this started off as Chad vs Brees and somehow you're now trying to draw me into a debate of fantasy land scenarios if the Jets played in the NFC.
It's about Chad and the Jets in the last 10 years. You don't think if we had been playing in the NFC the past decade we would have any more success than we had? The NFC has been an embarrassment, we have been playing in a division w/ a DYNASTY TEAM! That generally hinders getting a 1st rd bye and homefield BUT Chad has led us to a div title when we interuppted the Pats dynasty in 2002. Brees was phenomenal this year BUT only led his team to 10 wins in a bad division in a weak conference. I smell Daunte Culpepper here, I hope I am wrong b/c I want to see NO win but Drew has never won big games and was defeated by 1 armed Chad in 2004 in his only playoff game. If Drew leads NO to the SB I will put him ahead of Chad.
Which NFC team was blown out by that Patriot Dynasty in the SB? The Raiders who beat Chad up in the playoffs were the last team to be embarrased in the SB and that was by an NFC team. The one down year for the Pats Chad played a stinker in the second round against a Raider team that was blown out by the NFC in the SB.
But the Jets don't play in the NFC. Is it your assertion that any NFC QB's accomplishments should be behind that of an AFC QB? Brees also led his team to 12 wins in the Super AFC in 04.
MATT LEINART DOES NOT HAVE A LACK OF ARM STRENGTH. So big deal he doesn't have Favre's arm. I bet Leinart's arm is better than Romo's and you have him higher. Don't be messing with my boy here, i still think we should've drafted him. But i won't get too crazy about that.
Up until Denver won the SB in 98, the NFC had won 13 consecutive SB and Green Bay was favored over Denver that year simply because the AFC was looked at as a second rate league. For all the dominance of the AFC, it's been relatively short and it hasn't been nearly as dominant as the period before it when the NFC dominated. The Jets would not have easily won in the NFC in 98, that is merely an assumption. The fact is we might very well have lost in GB that year just like we lost in Denver. 2 of the 4 losses we had in 98 were against NFC teams.
Chad got hurt in 2004 or who knows? Brees lost 2 games that year at home and BOTH to the Chad-led Jets.
