I agree that White will be gone. If we lose Thursday as I expect, there will be no reason to rush White back meaning he’s played his last game as a Jet. Where I differ is that I think Zach shits the bed so bad in the next three games that it will become even clearer that he can’t play at a high level in the NFL. I don’t think he is our starter next year either.
White's ability to do the basics makes me believe he can hold the fort for a few years if he can stay healthy, which has been a big issue so far. I need to see more out of him before I can say he's the guy.
Zach has gone from a lock as the starter to a question mark. That said, I don't think the Jets have given up on him. I see three ways this could go right now (although subject to change if Zach either comes alive or really tanks over the next 3 games): 1. Zach continues to play as he has, perhaps with some improvement but nothing that proves he's the answer. In this case, the Jets keep him and either re-sign White if MW is amenable to a reasonable deal, or they sign a middling QB like Jimmie G to compete with Zach for the job with the loser becoming QB2. 2. Zach continues to play as he has, perhaps with some improvement but nothing that proves he's the answer. In this variation the Jets keep Zach and let White walk and try to sign/trade for a proven winning QB, possibly Brady or A. Rodgers and let Zach sit and learn behind them. 3. Zach does worse then he has and proves even to JD and Saleh that he isn't the answer and will never be. They try to trade him, either by himself or as a package. One idea might be to offer him to Denver with some other assets in return for R. Wilson. In this scenario they keep MW, and either look to get a middling QB as in #1, or possibly a proven winner as in #2. If the Jets decide to draft a QB - I pray they don't because they've proven incapable of developing a young QB - it would only be a mid-late rounder hoping they catch lightening in a bottle.
Mike White has played his last game as a Jet barring injury to Zach. They’re not paying White 15-20m a year next year. They’re not in position to. It would end Zach’s time here and be an open admission they made a mistake. They’re not doing that with Mike White being the alternative. Don’t get me wrong, White looks pretty decent but theees no guarantee with him. Many a #2 showed out, got paid, and faded to oblivion. So many in fact that the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of White not turning out to be much more than serviceable at best. But most importantly, Douglas can get away from a mistake with Zach. He can’t get away from a mistake with Zach by replacing him with a 45-60m mistake in White. A team that is looking to draft a project QB and needs a bridge QB with potential to hold the fort is where White will end up. JD’s going to be in the market for a cheaper FA alternative that will sign for backup money, like Minshew. They’ll declare a competition next spring, they’ll talk about all the strides Zach has made to improve (whether truth or not), and they’ll declare Zach the winner of the competition and then they’ll pray he actually does have a light go off. If it doesn’t then the veteran will play out the year and JD will get to draft his next prospect. Book it.
Dude Jimmy G is going to make Bank and be starting for whoever signs him. You’re out of your mind if you think he’d be here to backup Zach.
Mike White gonna sign elsewhere this offseason for big money, with the way the Jets luck goes that team will have a great offensive line to protect him and he becomes the next Brady, While Zack sucks 2 more years and the Jets draft the next bust. Mike White can show if healthy and protected he can be a stud, he has intangibles most Qb's in the league don't as getting the ball out quick, accuracy and going thru his progressions, how will he not be a succesful Qb with a good line? Unfortunately those 3 intangibles Zack sucks at.
And what if JD let's MW walk and he becomes a pro bowl legit QB? Especially in NE or NYG? And Zach still is still nothing more than a HS QB playing backyard ball. Does JD withstand that? Also, If the Jets somehow manage to grind out a win Thurs and the pats lose, as expected to Cincy. Jets will control their own destiny. If they throw ZW onto the field with a healthy/ready to play MW, there will be an all out locker room mutiny. I don't think that point is being considered.
No hell be gone, because If they keep putting Zack out there they will never be better than .500, as long as Zack is the starting Qb no playoffs for this team even if you give him Jamar Chase, Garret Wilson and Tyreek Hill he will be a trash Qb.

Two thoughts: 1. I do not understand why everybody seems to think MW is going to get big money elsewhere and that Jets wont pay him. Not sure what his value should be, that will be impacted by how the rest of the season plays out. I have to believe that IF the staff really believes he can be the guy that the Jets will find a way to keep him. If he leaves and stars elsewhere and the Jets are still stuck in QB hell next season the locker room will blow sky high. That cannot be risked. 2. If White does leave the answer may lie in Green Bay. It looks like Jordan Love will not sit behind Rodgers for another season. I have a good friend who is a big GB and he says that Love is talented and ready. Unless GB cuts bait with Rodgers (and his contract will make that difficult for them to do), I think Love should be our target.
Douglas bought himself another year by drafting an incredible rookie class. But unless his 2023 draft resembles his 2022 draft (which is very unlikely considering even Ozzie Newsome couldn't draft like that every year), he's not going to survive if we miss the playoffs in 2023 with a bottom-tier QB. And surely he knows this. So I can't see how Zach will even be in a competition to start next year let alone being the unquestioned starter. Plus I think the locker room would revolt if faced with another year of him.
Top-tier backups got 6-10m per year on 2-3 year deals. As hard as it is to believe, early buzz is that MW has earned himself a 2023 starting gig as a bridge QB as it stands today. So his value is probably anywhere between 10-15 mill per year on 2-3 years. If a team loves his tape, obviously could be higher.
If Grappolo and Matt Flynn got the Brinks truck backed up after playing in 1 game hard to believe Mike Won't, Teams will see that teamates love Mike White and that he played with fractured ribs, they will fall in love with him and throw a big payday at him. He is averaging 317 yards a game this year with a 62% completion rate, that looks good to teams. Someone will back up the brinks truck for him guaranteed, the Jets won't because they still obviously think Zack is the Saviour. That's how dellusional they are. Like it or not Zack Wilson is your starting Qb next year and MLF is your starting OC next year while his best friend Pom Pom no time out boy is the head coach. Those 3 and not having more Faith in White will ultimately cost Jd, Saleh and MLF their jobs in 3 years. Guarantee Mike White goes elsewhere where the line will protect him and becomes a top 15 Qb in the league while we get stuck with shit for brains for 2 more years.
Forget being a Jets fan, this is going to be very fascinating as to how this all unfolds. JD sees the same tape every other GM will. JD and Saleh can believe all they want in ZW right now but when push comes to shove I think it's a toss up as to whether they are gonna lay down their careers for ZW and let MW walk. The NFL analyst community is 50/50 on ZW right now. It's crazy. If JD thinks MW can be that guy, they will pay him. If they let him go then that's equally a calculated decision and we should hope they are right. There will be no recovering as a fan base if MW goes to another team, or even worse the Pats or Giants and stars. As someone said earlier JD can survive as GM is ZW busts and will get another shot. Is ZW busts and MW shines elsewhere he's absolute toast. I think the safe move for JD is to give MW 3 yrs/45 mill, let him and ZW have a training camp battle. If whoever wins stumbles Saleh can always go back to the other. After 2023 it will be clear whether MW, ZW, or neither of them is the answer. He just needs to buy himself time, Aka one more year of MW on the team.
What you talking about the fans have been supporting this shit show since 2010 and they will continue to do so, they call this season a success and in the right direction when we will miss the playoffs even though we just lost 3 winnable games straight. Fans will continue to support the Johnsons if they go winless next year. I don't know who's call it was but this franchise totally fucked up the Mike White situation, there is no reason why Flacco should of started this season instead of Mike White, the only reason is they didn't want Mike White having his usual 300+ yard games and when Zack and stunk they didn't want fans calling for his head, this whole season was used to protect Zack and if he didn't shoot himself in the foot and say some dumb shit post New England game Saleh would have still kept trotting him out on the field. Mike White is starting elsewhere next year 100%
White's averaging 317 yards a start over the equivalent of 6 NFL starts. If you take the 405 yard game out of the equation he's averaging 300 yards a start over the other 5 game equivalences. He's going to get an offer somewhere.
We have to resign him somehow, but he might not want to compete with Zach knowing ownership wants to see him fail, and well do everything to rip his chances away. I wouldn't blame him in all honesty.
And even more than that, teams see he is a competitor, a team leader, and selfless, a great locker room guy, besides stats teams love that kind of stuff and guys like him fill seats. Unfortunately for us we have 2 choices franchise him or let him hit the open market where he will get atleast 5/75. Sucks that teams go crazy over a good 5 games for a qb but there are so many desperate teams looking for a qb these days that I would not be suprised someone throws 100 mil at White. The coming back twice with fractured ribs earned him 50 mil + in the offseason. The only reason why anyone would hesitate is because he gets injured, but than team's will see how awful our offensive line was last 2 seasons and won't care. They will just do what the Jets can't do and find ways to protect him.
Wow I never thought about it that way with Flacco but you are so right man. Great point I see it now. The Jets totally hid MW to keep the fans from calling for him when Zach would struggle early. There is NO WAY Flacco looked better than MW in practices no way. I am all in on that conspiracy theory ... well done. That's messed up. Ughhh But I do have faith that JD will think twice about putting his name on letting MW go for ZW I was listening to LA Greca today who's a former NYJ company man and of course he spews the company line.... ZW cheerleader. He acknowledges to callers that MW is clearly better than ZW right now but says ZW is the future and MW is not. This just does not make logical sense to me. MW is only 4.5 years older than ZW and won't be 30 until the start of the 2025 season. We aren't talking about an already 32-34 yr old journeyman. Also MW has 6 NFL starts compared to ZWs 20. Give me the guy who's better and 6'5 vs 6'2" any day. This is just such a dumb argument to me.
