My issues: 1. Wilson is slow at reading the defenses and seeing plays in progress, which causes him to be late on throws. He waits until he sees the WRs open and then tries to gun the ball in fast. 2. Wilson has NO touch on his passes unless you count the ones that hit the ground in front of his receivers. 3. Wilson does not throw to a spot or to a window, and I have doubts he will ever be a good starter let alone the QB the Jets hoped for when they drafted him. Our future: The Jets won't get crap in a trade so they should keep him, letting White and Wilson fight for the starting spot next season. Wilson could surprise us all with another season. Keep Chris Streveler as the #3. Can we afford keep Mike White on a gamble that he can be the guy? He's not worth paying $15-$20M a season as a possible #2. Lastly, NO more bring in old veterans like Flacco or anyone other washed up QB, unless his name in Rogers. Yes, I would take Rogers for two seasons if he was cheap, but he will finish his career in GB. Can you imagine what Rogers would do with our WRs & TEs in this offense? Just venting, I bought into the fake hype of the Jets being a playoff caliber team this year.
On the last sentence. I don't think it was fake hype. I actually believe if Breece and AVT didn't go down the Jets would be in the top 3 in AFC seeding. It was a major blow. That said, I would move on from ZWilson keep White and sign Jimmy G. Let White and Jimmy battle in camp and look for a QB to groom in the draft. With the above in mind, the Jets are in fine shape moving forward. We just need to find reliable QB play from start to finish and build on the roster. That play comes from Mike White or a FA. Plus the rookies we have come to love this year are only going to keep getting better. I know this season FEELS like a let down but if you zoom out, it's really not at all. I am very encouraged moving forward. This team is just getting started.
Some Gm will fall in love with the talent and potential and give us a 2 or 3 for him, Darnold and Rosen brought a 2 so why not Wilson? Trade him as soon as possible as he still stinks 2 seasons in.
Based on his size and his game I think White will always be at risk for injury. That means even if they think he can be the guy they’ll need a good backup. A good backup might be able to beat White out in training camp. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see them target one of the bigger names in FA and let some team roll the dice on giving White more than Jets are willing to too be their backup. Wilson plays backup/starter in waiting until he’s ready or deemed hopeless.
White has question marks around durability which i think many have outlined. Im also a little concerned about him in the red zone, in particular in goal to go situations. In many ways Zach looks far more comfortable in this situation. However moving the ball down the field White looks very much a good starter.
I highly doubt Zach is the answer, but I don't think White is either. He has the height, arm strength, and knows where to go with the ball, but he is just not built solidly enough. He's already been hurt twice in what 7 games and he can't move. That said, I would much rather have him playing than Zach on Thursday... I will be rooting hard for Zach to have a great game, though.
If White had stayed healthy, maybe he could have shown that he's the answer. But barring a miraculous playoff run, he won't have enough games to do it now. And his durability is a major concern going forward. So we need to look outside the organization for our 2023 starter.
Mike white is not settling for a 1 year 2.5 mil contract this offseason some team out there like Carolina is going to be desperate and throw a massive contract like what happened with grappolo and Matt Flynn and white is gonna bolt, jets will still refuse to admit failure with drafting zack and keep sticking him out there hoping he finally gets it so we are stuck with zack 2 more seasons because this organiZation is a joke
One thing... I keep seeing this Zach has no 'touch' thing. Like everything else, when he passes with 'touch' it's ignored. See 2nd TD to Uzomah, on Sunday. Yes, Zach has his problems, but the miracle will be if the Jets bring in an experienced QB coach, to work with him... another thing so many of y'all ignore. Once Greg Knapp died, the team had no other plan. His QB coach has no experience... his only NFL experience was as Quality-Control coach, for a coupla years. If y'all get what you wish for, some other team will give Zach the coaching he needs. Then, I'm sure you'll all be happy, if he begins to 'get it,' on another team, while the Jets move forward with another 2nd or 3rd-level QB, & the search continues for the Guy.
Theres a lot to like with MW. I think the Jets should ride with MW as QB1 2023 and grab a competent back up just in case injury or ineffectiveness. Figure as of now if he doesn't take another snap I think MW has solidified 15 mill per year for a team like NO or Car or very likely TB. White has something that if you watch, you know is not really teachable. He gets rid of the ball, he is razor sharp accurate and his arm is definitely plus strength. He routinely gets to his 3rd and 4th reads in a second. It's an uncanny RARE ability. If it's been fluky so be it .. I don't think what MW has displayed over 4.25 games (minus 2021 Buff) is fluky at all. I think he's the real deal. Now he's immobile, so yes you must prioritize the OL and protect him. But this is a formula that works and has gotten several recent championships. He gets rid of it quickly, he just needs another half second back there and he's been playing behind a horrid OLine. And you know what, JD didn't draft him but he and Salehs staff will still get the credit if he succeeds. Mike Martz and Dick Vermeil were given starring roles in Kurt Warners Disney movie. I don't buy that JD is tied to ZWs failures but not MWs success. Both are true. I've watched a lot of football my life and seen a lot of QB play. Mike White has something to roll the dice on. If they don't someone else will. We already stated a couple of obvious suitors for MW but how about the freaking Patriots??? You really think Belichik isn't going to watch how this unfolds and look at MW and see a little of TBrady in terms of style (I'm not comparing) ... how about the Giants????? You don't think Daboll is thinking he can get MW for 15 mill a year vs Daniel Jones for 25 mill+ ... Arizona? If Kingsbury keeps his job, Kyler is out all of next year, MW might be a perfect fit for a spread offense. There are a lot of potential landing spots and I think some on this board I've been reading severely under rate how much of a commodity MW will be. His film is out and it doesn't lie. His ability in categories you can't teach is going to be worth a 15 mill year dice roll to some. If MW is not the guy for my team, the Jets, I'm a big fan of Daniel Jones. He can be the future. I'm also on board with a 2 year championship push with A Rodgers as long as we don't have to give up MULTIPLE first round picks or Sauce, Breece, DJ, or Q. But I can live with a 1st and a 3rd that could be a 2nd. But the worst case scenerio for us as fans, the team, and JD is MW signing else where and being a very good QB for the next 8-9 years. IMO keep him for whatever the market dictates he will get.
Well yet another version of the topic du jour, the QB road ahead. . 1- IMO Zach much to some people shagrin will remain on the team for 2023 as a competitor certainly not not a starter, period. If I were Wilson, I would say irrespective of what MLF wants or doesnt want for a QB guru, I'm spending the whole off season with the same QB guru Josh used and figure out how to fix all the mental and mechanics problems,or game over in 2023. 2- White will most likely be a member of this team if he can accommodate a reasonable contract. Based on the current facts, injury and the presumption he will not play again this year, he will not get starting QB money here in 2023. If he returns before the season ends and has a strong couple of games then maybe that will change, but I doubt it. 3- A bonafide starting QB will be brought in to start the season. Could be JG or could even be a one year superstar rental. Do not dismiss even TB. This team is by the most part a win now franchise, with a couple of pieces missing. I know people hate it when I say this, but the biggest improvement needed besides QB is maturity in the CS. What happens over the next three games will nail down for JD the road ahead for 2023. Drafting another rookie QB is not a good path for our Jets
Letting White walk would be the dumbest move by JD. You have to shore up the QB position to the best of our availability. MW will be a free agent, so it's pretty likely he'll test the market. Arod, Tom Brady, etc... that's not happening. Maybe Jimmy G, but he's injury-prone too. I think we have to sign MW and let Zach compete for the job. Simple as that. The ONLY other option is to trade Zach to GB. Saleh can make that happen since Matt LaFleur is his BFF, and Jordan Love wants out and ARod is coming back 1-2 years.
Come on man, he had 2 sure thing touchdowns dropped by Conklin and Berrios vs the Vikings. For me: White is QB1 next year. Offense: We go all out to improve the O-Line, get Breece back, Get another legit WR Defense: Improve on the pass rush
Next season will be year 3 for Zach. To hear the "experts" tell it that is the year you should know if he can be "the guy" or not. If you are going into year 4 and you still don't know then, it's probably not going to happen. The thing that is really concerning with Zach is he showed no improvement from year 1 to year 2.
White's decent and far better than Zach, but the people anointing him haven't watched enough non-Jets games over the last decade. If you watch other teams play, this is what's expected out of an NFL quarterback.
Rewatched the game in slo-mo. Zach is most probably a lost cause. If he doesn’t have optimal protection, he’s got no shot.
The handwriting is already on the wall. When I hear Salah talk about the position, I hear "Mike White will be gone and we're riding Zach for another year. Good, bad, or ugly."
