he's been bad for a few years... A Ray Guy award winner at A&M but he's clearly not cutting it in the NFL right now. These line drive kicks, shanks out of bounds and no touch/backspin inside the 20. Hang time, Directional kicking and backspin are three areas a punter needs to be good at. AT least he's been a decent holder for FG attempts so far. We can upgrade for sure.
In Mann's defense though if Zack hits Mim's on the opening drive, Mann is not punting from the edge of the endzone, so you can blame Zack for being a turd as much as Mann.
He is not the first punter to punt from the end zone this season. But he IS the first punter to have two punts returned for TD this season. All 31 other punters have 1 punt returned for TD this season - combined. Mann has two. Let's not blame Zach for Mann's and special teams' monumental fuck up. Matt Ariaza anyone?
If he gets cleared of his gang rape charges, I’m in. That guy has Hall of Fame punter written all over him. Or 15 years in the clink.
He won't be charged: https://www.nfl.com/news/former-bills-punter-matt-araiza-won-t-be-charged-in-alleged-gang-rape There will be civil courts I guess, a la Dashaun. But he is not in danger of jail.
Some of these posts...... yeah, If Mann had punted out of bounds vs. NE and they used those 25 seconds to drive for a TD, he would have been crucified here. It was crap coverage, plain and simple. Same as the one yesterday- he was punting from back of the end zone under heavy pressure and had to kick it quick. It was a decent effort to get it 45 yards on a quick kick. Again, our coverage sucked- but of course that's on Mann. And Morstead, btw, has almost the same stats as Mann. Had we tackled the returner on those two TDs, Mann's net average would be around #12 in the league. Still, Mann is suspect. Can't keep having car accidents that are always the other guy's fault. We have a lot bigger issues to address- Mann does a lot of things for this team and this criticism is mostly just venting I understand. But our special teams needs to get better all around.
by the way, for any that don't understand what happened: The Jets were on the 1 yd line, given Mann only 11 yds and also under max rush pressure. Jets could not afford to send anyone downfield due to the Lions end zone punt rush. So all we had were our two gunners. The first one was there within 6 yds when the punt was caught, but the returner juked him, and the other gunner was blocked. It was then off to the races and a lot of poor tackling position.
They scored 3 points in 59 minutes and 35 seconds of game time. What in the world has you convinced they would march down and scored a TD in 25 seconds? Some hypothetical you got going on there. For all we know, they would have tried that same dumbass play as Sunday before overtime and we would have won!!!!!!
Does the OP suggest we cut the other 10 special teamers who didn't stop the return too? Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk
No, I suggest cutting the worst punter in the National Football League that routinely fucks up his punts and gives teams good starting field position. It’s an easy upgrade you can make during the season.
He is crap. He either shanks or kicks a line drive. The lack of hang time on his kicks is huge issue, almost all of his kicks can be returned for at least 5-10 yards minimum. Meanwhile decent punters kicking to Berrios are all fair caught.
