You have to move the ball with consistency at this time of the year. It can't be hit or miss drives. Our defense will be worn down...and more importantly, it makes it less likely a "hot or cold" offense can suddenly make a drive to win the game. Zach can't run the offense with any consistency. He never has and probably never will at this point. Based on the way he played there's no way we'd have a chance with Vikings or Bills the way he played. With Mike White at least the team knows from the 1st snap we're in the entire way. Zach can go cold at any time – now the entire team has wait for him to figure it out during the game – and guess what he never did in both Pats game. That said, he at least didn't run 20 yds behind the line of scrimmage, and took a few hits in the pocket throwing the ball. FINALLY!
I was responding to @JackBower who was being snarky: But again, to say that the most important position on the team - QB - has nothing to with whether they win or lose is simply wrong.
These were Mike White's Stats against Minnesota. Not exactly stellar against a very bad Defense. But I do not have an agenda. 31/57 54.3% 369 yards 0/2
yah got you But I’m not saying QB has nothing to do with the wins…not at all…we all agree it’s the most important position on the team I just don’t think saying ZW is 5-2 is a good argument for supporting a position that says he’s a good QB But it’s semantics…in the end I think everyone on this board pretty much understands ZW has not played well and has not at all justified his draft position (though to be fair that’s not his fault where he was picked) the differences are more around how much we each think he can improve and whether we each think he can become a good QB for us. most are already over it and are calling him a bust … I’m pretty much in that boat as he’s been terrible, and the stats support the eye test as the sample size continues to grow and the stats don’t improve at all. I’m tired of the bullshit cherry-picking with stupid shit like hey let’s pull out the throwaways and then see what his completion rate is (sorry I can’t let that one go because it was so clearly a bad take), but while there are excuses made and many of which have been legitimate (bad OL, bad receivers last year, etc), that’s all they are is excuses. we’ve seen literally every QB we have come out and look better than ZW with this team…any objective observer would see how much better the offense runs with White than with Zach…he just can’t process fast enough, can’t see the field well, and is too inaccurate with his throws to succeed in this system. He just doesn’t have it. It is what it is. I don’t think he’ll ever have it…but I’m sure he’ll get another offseason to try and show he does…
"The frustrating thing is that this kid is going to be a good quarterback, but the NFL and this new instant-coffee world that we're in just doesn't want to give people time," Saleh said. "So, we look at him and he's just nitpicked with a fine-tooth comb."
I know you watched the game, so you know Zach's stats were padded by 4 pass plays that got him literally 70% of his pass yds.
The Lawrence ship not only sailed, it never came into port. Lest we forget: The Jets were never going to "Tank for Trevor". t wasn't like they had a choice and passed on Lawrence for Wilson. It was never a possibility, so continuing to point to TL's performance is pointless. Moreover they're in completely different circumstances - they have different coaches, different schemes they're being asked to run, different players around them, and far less media and fan attention in Jax vs. NY. And finally - and most importantly - it should be clear now that the Jets don't know how to develop a QB, even one who is as talented as Lawrence. Maybe he would be doing marginally better than Zach, but I seriously doubt it, not with the shitty OL, the incoherent offensive scheme and playcalling, and the injuries making all of that worse. At this point I'm coming tothe belief that the best thing for the Jets and Zach Wilson is for them to part company and for the Jets to trade for or sign an accomplished - not a journeyman - QB, maybe Brady, or maybe go all in on someone like Jackson or Rodgers, or maybe even consider offering Zach to Denver for RWilson. They can keep White as the backup. I still think Zach can be a good QB, but it's not going to happen in a Jets uniform.
You can write that but it still applies to you. For the record, I've been plenty critical of Zach Wilson.
Those don't count? "The frustrating thing is that this kid is going to be a good quarterback, but the NFL and this new instant-coffee world that we're in just doesn't want to give people time," Saleh said. "So, we look at him and he's just nitpicked with a fine-tooth comb."
Actually, if one is honest, Zach took one step forward yesterday... he didn't vaporize after things were heading to disaster. The 3rd qtr was terrible, but instead of spiraling downward, he was able to lead the team to a 4th-qtr TD, that gave them the lead. And, after the D gave up that ugly TD, he was able to lead them close to a tie-able field goal,,, & may've gotten closer, had Saleh not gone bozo-analytical (does Saleh have any football instincts, or is everything data). As far as being a fit for the offense, ummm, they drafted him. They knew his skillset. Don't blame Zach because MLF is clueless how to use that skillset. It's only logical that if you draft a person with a certain skillset, you actually tailor that offense around that skillset. When choose to ignore a player's skillset, you get an inconsistent mess. His talent pulls him in one way, & the coaches are pulling him in another. The coaches are dead wrong here. They're not developing his talent, they're stifling it. And if all you Zach-haters, would actually take a breath, & take a logical look, you'd see what's clearly been going on. Zach has talent. The Jets drafted him. They should be tailoring their offense to Zach, not forcing him to be someone else. Either they change, or they may whiff on their chance to actually develop that talent. Someone will. And lastly, I didn't want them to draft Zach. Zach never won me over. But he is talented, & this coaching staff has never given Zach a chance to prove me wrong. Yesterday, he showed me he could right his head in-game, after a bad 3rd-qtr. To me, that is a major step forward.
I think you've confused that play with the GW catch on the TD drive. The miracle play with Carter happened about midway through the 3rd quarter. I believe it was a couple of drives before the TD drive.
Then why are you and others constantly pointing at his worse game this season to, in a mental mind flip a gymnast would be impressed, to Zach's last game to prove he wasn't a reason we lost the game? Show me all these people who said White had this great game against the Vikings. I looked at that thread and the MW thread. A lot of people said that game would have been one of Zach's best that season, which isn't wrong... But I found very few saying white had this great game.
And I'm not quite sure who lavished white with praise against the Vikings outside a very small minority... About the same size telling everyone Zach wasn't bad yesterday
You say that like it's a bad thing. This is what makes ZW so frustrating. The arm talent is there but his footwork and body mechanics are just too inconsistent for him to be consistently accurate. It's the main reason, maybe the only reason, I'm not totally out on him yet. He's got all the talent in the world but until he can fix his issues and hit the lay-ups, all of that won't mean a thing.
Show me. I see he had an ok game, that it would have been one of Zach's best which was true.. he was better than Zach against the lions I know QBR is your only stat right now but unfortunately your in a space where most people watched both games.
It is the hypocritical takes. Mike White played great against the Vikings and was not the reason they lost. Zach was the reason we lost to Detroit. It is impossible to have a grown-up conversation. Zach is still growing as a QB it took Q four years and he is a Defensive Tackle. Be fair with the kid. I do not necessarily like the way they benched Zach but I do not have an issue benching a player. Zach should have been saved from himself in the NE game and benched at half. He probably should have been benched in the Denver game as well. The kid is still growing give him a break. "The frustrating thing is that this kid is going to be a good quarterback, but the NFL and this new instant-coffee world that we're in just doesn't want to give people time," Saleh said. "So, we look at him and he's just nitpicked with a fine-tooth comb."
