1. DRAFT (Saw from another site, that we don't have a 5th or 7th rounder...) Round 1: Paul Posluszny OLB/ILB Penn State - The Jets need a pass rushing linebacker, and he fits the 3-4 mold perfectly. Round 2: Michael Bush RB Louisville - The Jets don't have a true #1 RB, Bush will be that in 2007/2008 or, at latest, 2008/2009. Round 2: Steve Smith WR USC - Although a third WR is not a main need, I think it could really benefit the Jets if they had another strong WR, because it would just add another threat to our unthreatening offense, which is always a plus. Round 3: Brian Lenoard FB Rutgers - The Jets could let go of B.J. Askew, who hasn't been anything special, and get an amazing, complete package, FB from right here in NJ. Round 4: Manuel Ramirez RG Texas Tech - Another big offensive lineman to build a great offensive line for the future. Round 6: Conrad Bolston DT Maryland - Could be a great future nose tackle, something they are lacking now. 2. You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into this so I won't be too harsh, but Thomas is not a 3-4 end and from everything I heard Posluzny would be incapable of playing in the 3-4, especially on the outside.
Well Thomas played some defensive end this year and he had a pretty good season. I know he played mostly linebacker, but I think he could do OK - good at defensive end. Plus, this is only in one year and since there are no studs in free agency and I believe the top DE (Like Gaines Adams and Quentin Moses) will be gone by our pick, drafting a LB like Posluzny would be great. I really think he would flourish actually in a 3-4. He has great speed and would be a sack machine. Why wouldn't he be good in a 3-4?
Everything I have heard about Posluzny is he has very average speed and athleticism and his smarts and instincts are what makes him great. I also think you are underrating our OLBs and the available DEs in the draft. Thomas and Hobson have been serviceable at OLB and I agree that there won't be a ton of elite OLBs at our position but people like Lamarr Woodley and Anthony Spencer could be there and coulb play 3-4 OLB very successfully. Also there should be an unusual amount of 3-4 DE prospects available in the late first to early third range. People like Adam Carriker, Jay Moore, Ray McDonald, Jamaal Anderson, Tim Crowder, Baraka Atkins all have the size to play the run and hold their ground and would be a much better value in my opinion than an OLB or NT pick at the same spot.
that would be one hell of a great draft, but no way Lenoard will be there in mid 3rd round. He's a second rounder
My only concern about Steve Smith is his height. I know that Laverneous is not the tallest but when was the last time we had a tall receiver of any consequence. Has to be Keyshawn.
My Jets Mock: 1- Levi Brown- line of the ages, period. 2- Lamarr Woodley- pass rushing beast, drops due to low 40 time. 2- Eric Weddle- could replace coleman, and play a little corner. also return punts. 3- Chris Henry- put up terrible stats in college, but mangini could coach this huge kid to compliment leon very well.
If we do this then our future will be amazing. Im not that High on Weddle rather have Leonard there, or another corner.
i would rather have leonard also, but weddle there is great value. and henry is similar to leonard in ways, just faster.
Why is Barret on the team if we sign Ricky manning? Why is McCareins on the team if we draft a wideout in the second round?
I want a tall, strong, speedy WR for a change. When I say tall, I mean throw it up there, jump and go get it tall. When was the last time we had a quality one? I'd love to get Meacham from Tennessee.
There is no way Woodley will last past the 1st round, it is even likely he won't even last to our 1st round pick
You willing to sacrifice a second for him? I agree with you, but if it isn't CJ or DJ, I'd rather wait it out and go for strictly a jump ball specialist on day 2 like Matt Trannon or Dallas Baker.
if woodley runs around a 4.72 forty (which is most likely) he could very well last to our pick. second round may be pushing it, if a 3-4 team falls in love with him then he wont last. the kid is a player though and i really want to draft him.
Why are we re-signing Bryan Thomas when he's already locked away with a 5 year, $25 million extension? It would be an awesome offseason, but when you find the cap room for it I'll be truly amazed. Those moves would probably leave us at least $15-20 over, and some of the contracts are really unrealistic (why would a starter worthy player like Manning take a contract barely over $1.5 million? He's going to cost at least $4 million per. Cotch also will want and deserves a bigger chunk of change then $2 million).
Good call-- I'm a PSu fan- and Poz is just too small- after last season he was in the 220's- he may be up to high 230's by draft time, but he is just too small. It would be like another Vilma-- Great player, wrong scheme. How nice would Woodley, and a DE be with our first 2 pics??? I like Atkins, and Jamall Anderson from Arkansas- but I can guarantee we get Karriker-- just because I hate him. I can't stand white guys- they get hurt more than anyone, and are SLOW.
