They have all the motivation to win. A win vs the Dolphins clinches a playoff spot and just about wraps up the AFCE. Also, they want to keep hold of the #1 seed. I doubt they want to visit KC or CIN in the playoffs.
Unfortunately that game is probably the least important out of the 4 remaining for the Chargers. The AFC games are more important b/c conference record is the only thing holding us back as a tie breaker vs the Chargers if we tie. If we both end up 9-8 pr 10-7, we somehow need 2 of LAC losses to be vs Titans, Colts, or Denver. Obviously any LAC is good if we finish 3-1 in our final 4 and they go 2-2. EDIT - The next tie breaker would be W:L of common opponent. All the Jets would need to do is beat one of JAX or SEA and they clinch it. We can also get it with a Charger loss to DEN. Chargers get if NYJ lose to JAX+SEA and they beat DEN
Many thanks. Great clarification points for me. Clearly we need to take care of business first and foremost. I think anything less than 3-1 record to end the season puts out out of the race.
Definitely. At 9-8 things get very, very dicey (especially if we don't beat Miami as one of those final two wins). This scenario becomes even more questionable b/c then we would have to worry about the Pats at 9 wins (I can't see them getting 10) and then the two losses from the Chargers must come from the AFC. If the Chargers go 2-2 and we go 3-1 to finish out the season, it doesn't matter if the Chargers get 2 AFC losses. The Jets would be sitting so pretty if they somehow go 2-0 in the next two and the Chargers fall vs Tenn and @ Indy week 16. I would bet the Jets odds for the playoffs get to over 80% if that was the situation. Rooting guide this week is pretty self explanatory -- 1) Jets over Lions 2) Titans over Chargers 3) Raiders over Pats 4) Bills over Dolphins 5) Cleveland over Balt 6) Tampa over Cinci 7) Dalls over Jax Little weather info for that Bills v Miami game Saturday night --
Wouldn't we want Baltimore to eliminate the Browns for being involved in the conversation if they win out? Both Baltimore and Cincinati are getting in, no need for the Browns to be relevant
I don't believe there is a scenario where both Cleveland can pass us since we beat them. I think we would have go 8-9 with them 9-8 and at that point we wouldn't be in anyways. Baltimore schedule isn't that easy the rest of the way, especially when you consider Lamar is banged up and "may" return before Christmas. Baltimore is: @ Cleveland Atlanta Pittsburgh @ Cinci
Sucks. I really wish we would've split these last two games at least now. Feels like 2015 all over. The trauma.
I didn't expect them to beat Buffalo in Buffalo. That's asking for a lot. It's the Minnesota game that feels like we blew it.
Agreed, but they could've beaten Buffalo if they could've made a few plays. I still don't know why they couldn't. Was it lack of execution, lack of ability in the guys who came in as subs, bad play design, bad play calling? Whatever it is, it's hurt them in two winnable games. If they don't make the playoffs, they'll look back at these two games as massive lost opportunities.
If they don't make the playoffs, it will be the 2 NE games that cost them. The Jets IMHO are better than NE. Losing to the Vikings and Bills on the road is no surprise. The Jets were tough in both games but give credit to the Vikings and Bills as they made the plays to win the game. Both of those are better than the Jets right now.
We beat Buffalo once so there's a win against a better team. And the Browns game was a fucking miracle. We really should have lost that one. As for Minnesota, when you out again a team 486 yards to 287 and lose, you've fucking blown that one too.
All the losses hurt and contribute to missing the playoffs, but I get the feeling that you're blaming the 2 NE games because a certain QB was involved, as opposed to the Vikings and Bills games where "Mike Fuckin' White" was the QB.
We could have lost the Pittsburgh game too. We were down 10 in the 3rd and then 3 with a little over 3 minutes left. Pittsburgh has struggled this year but we never beat them in a spot like that in the past. The Jets went 65 yards and took 3:18 off the clock to win the game. They even overcame a a 10 yard illegal block penalty on that drive. There are 4 games left against beatable teams. If we don't make the playoffs it will because of what we did in those 4 games. Simple as that.
This . Win one of any these three games and life would have less heartburn. Same amount of bourbon though.
