There's a necessity for moves in the offseason pertaining to the QB position. The fact is, Joe Flacco is washed up and hot garbage. The Jets must move on from him. I'm also assuming ZACH will occupy another roster spot. So really during the offseason we'll need to add one QB to replace Flacco. IMO, the Jets should add another veteran to their team to guide White and Zach. A guy that can compete with those two and hold their feet to the fire. Make them play at their best. Next year is do or die for Zach Wilson. I don't believe there's any chance Mike White loses his job unless White gets injured and is carried away on a stretcher. White is our starter for the rest of season......
Brook, I like you, but I think this is a ridiculous take. Do you really think Zach could have come in off the bench in those conditions, against that defense, and lead us to a victory? He has been deactivated because he is a total mess right now and it would be a disservice to him if we brought him back before he has had time to rebuild his game. Sending him in to that game, asking him to be the hero, is exactly what he doesn't need right now. I think the mistake has been having Flacco as backup when the only up he is is washed. At least Streveler would offer us something different, a wild card element. But Zach? Right now? No WAY.
There’s 2 reasons why Zach is inactive and Flacco is- Zach can’t play. He handed the ball off against NE on a pass play. He’s missing wide open receivers, he’s missing basic reads, his mechanics are garbage, and his accuracy is atrocious. He’s mentally fried. Zach needs an off-season to re-evaluate his desire to be an NFL caliber QB and put the work in. Streveler isn’t active to save Zach’s value. If our PS QB is dressed ahead of Zach it’s an awful look for Zach and an open admission from the organization that they have no faith at all in him. This not only hurts Zach, it hurts the Jets because it devalues Zach to a point where trading him might not be an option.
OK, and when you’re done paying Mike White to stay here, what veteran are you paying to compete with him?
How much do you think Mike White will command? Come on. And if he wants big money then I'd rather use it on a veteran that's better than White.
You guys are free to criticize me. No offense taken. I still believe Zach should have been on the sidelines instead of Flacco in the Bills game. And to me if Zach was benched at the Pats game, Mike White could have won that game for us. I like Saleh and I still have high hopes for MLF but to me they mismanaged the back up QB situation in both games.
IDK if the players would quit but you and I are fully aligned on the interpretation of his play and actions. Everything you say has objective evidence that backs it up and I'm pretty sure the CS interprets the data as you do.
I agree. The players love White. So come next year JD and the CS needs to figure out the right path. If Mike can remain healthy, and that’s a big if, he deserves to be In mix for starting QB role period in an open competition, probably along with a new face and Zach.
We need to find out the status of White for Sunday. But rest assure in either case there will be two added active QB, and I will be pissed purple if Flacco is one of them . That is absolutely the worst possible choice. Flacco damned near cost us the game in three plays. He doesn’t have anything left, including drive.
I agree, as I said, Flacco is hot garbage. Having seen Zach for 20 games, which one of his amazing performances make you think he's a good option in 2022? His current game is rubbish, and if he plays like a turd at home, he's probably finished here. Wouldn't you rather let him "fix" whatever it is that needs fixing before putting the guy back in a game to fail again? Think long term, the pros outweigh the cons of sticking ol' Zach back in to run backwards in 2022.
Are you saying Flacco is a better option? Or Strev based on fourth quarter pre season play? I wanted to sit Zach during the NE game. But We have no choice now. We are stuck between a rock and a hard spot. I’m worried Mike will not survive the next 4 games if he even plays this week. This OL might love White but ain’t doing shit to help him from getting killed and he is not that mobile. . With Flacco we are beyond dead. If White can’t play we are literally throwing the playoff chances down the toilet with Flacco. He is an inmobile fumbling machine. With all of his woes Zach won five games. So we can tailor something with his scrambling at least. Everyone quotes stats but we are 2-4 without Zach and 5-2 with him. So while the passing game has been impressive with White and the chemistry is great as a team we still stall where it counts. Magnify that with Flacco. Flacco was inactive the last game Zach played with White active for a reason. Flacco is done. Are we really gonna trot Strev with zero NFLgame experience in instead. I doubt the CS is that ballsy in a play off run. If we want to take a flyer and play Strev, then you are declaring Zach is done here any how and we piss away any chance of playoffs.
There in lies the rub. The film from Zach’s performance is damning. He’s misunderstanding basic concepts, missing open receivers, his fundamentals are shot and his accuracy is terrible. He handed a ball off on a pass play. If Streveler comes in and plays at a basic level it damns Zach completely. You can argue White’s been in the league for a while, and Flacco is a veteran, but if Strev plays relatively decent it really exposes Zach.
Strev has NFL experience with AZ, adequate, definitely not the PS version. BUT, he does seem like a gamer, I'd trust him over Flacco. Look, I want the playoffs, but I'm also very realistic. I don't see a Superbowl happening this year, they need too many breaks with this injury riddled roster. So I'm looking at this long term, and if Wilson is in that long term picture, he has to be absolutely ready to come back. If the CS trots him out as the backup, then I need to trust - they think he's ready. But if he's not, it's gonna be real ugly.
I completely agree with you. White has done more than his share to earn the spot. I support that 100%. But he is getting creamed by the OL and his limited mobility and we need to have a back up or two on the bench that give us at lest a fighting chance. Let’s just hope he stays healthy. While Zach has been a disappointment to many of us supporters, I think he can still provide value in a back up role right now, particularly with his mobility and roll out plays. Let’s make the playoffs one way or another, and worry about next year after the season to see if he gets his act together.
