Lol so what's an "arm strength" throw to you? That far hash throw is the one throw that everyone has been questioning about MW and he did it with ease yesterday. The guy has the arm to play in the league, it shouldn't be a knock anymore.
I'm just happy to see Eli Moore getting some balls thrown his way. He could be a real weapon, so refreshing that they aren't worrying about feelings anymore and letting the right QB throw to the right WRs
When it all comes down to it, this is probably right. I doubt the Jets lose to the bears with Wilson starting. They wouldn't have thrown for nearly as many yards, and it would probably have been much closer, but they still wouldn't have lost. I like White. He can make all the throws and sees the field well. He's just not durable and can't move. If Josh allen took the same hits White took yesterday, I don't think he flinches. HE definitely wouldn't have come out of the game.
Sounds to me like Mike White will start Sunday and Zach Wilson will be the back-up QB. As long as White is healthy, I think that is the right decision. If not, I would go back to Zach. Flacco doesn't need to ever wear a Jets jersey again.
We were losing because of Zach, and winning in spite of him. That is not the case with White. Of course he isn't perfect, but we can't just set our sights on a Top 5 QB and ditch anyone who isn't in that incredibly elite (and hard to find) class.
We may be forced into this, because Flacco is just garbage, but throwing Zach back in so soon is almost certainly going to end badly. He really needs to be given time to rebuild his game and his confidence. I hope we don't see him again this year, and I also hope he will get another chance next year after a proper reset.
It was a game where he didn't hurt us, and it's telling that that is one of his best. I haven't given up on the guy. I just think he needs to come back next year. He will (and should) get another chance, either through injury or through winning the job in training camp. But this is not his time.
I'd like to see Streveler used as a change of pace QB and in goal line situations. Our red zone offense is for shit...
Wilson made plays in that game, especially the 3rd down pass to Mims. This board has a very short memory when it comes to Wilson.
No, we remember the running plays that led up to that one pass. It was a good pass, but nothing special. You can’t really think Zach is ready to come back, can you?
I started to list what I considered White's "checkdowns" - which weren't all on 3rd down - but wound up including some other notable pass plays that give a fuller picture of his performance. I didn't include all of his passes - most of the omitted ones speak for themselves. Watch the video for the complete catalogue. Checkdowns are in bold - not all were on 3rd down: (Time stamps refer to Youtube video above) 0:38 2nd & 17 - To Carter for 3 yards 0:46 3rd & 14 - To Conklin for 3 yards 1:05 1st & 15 - Swing pass in the dirt 1:13 2nd & 15 - Short of the sticks. 1:17 3rd & 10 - 15 yards to Davis who got hurt on the play. 1:35 3rd & 4 - Incomplete pass to Conklin on left sideline behind him by a few yards. 1:39 1st & 10 - Scrambles out of near sack to his right, hold onto the ball instead of throwing it away and gets sacked. 1:53 3rd & 19 - Checkdown to LOS, dropped. 2:08 3rd & 11 - Checkdown to Conklin for 3 yards 3:00 1st & 10 Checkdown to Conklin at LOS for 3/4 yards. 3:15 1st & 10 Swing pass to the left for 2 yard loss. 3:30 3rd & 12 Completion to Wilson on right sideline for 1st down (Should've been Personal Foul for the hit on Wilson). 3:55 3rd & 10 Completion to Berrios along right sideline for 20 yards. Great throw and catch. 5:30 2nd & 11 Completion to Wilson over the middle for 1st down. 5:47 1st & 10 11:01 to go down 13 points from Jets 35. Checkdown to Mims. Dropped - should've been caught. 5:50 2nd & 10 Complete 4/5 yards to Mims. 6:00 3rd & 1 Roll out to right, swing pass complete for 1st down. 6:14 1st & 10 10:03 left from Buffalo 48. Sack for 11 yard loss. 6:17 2nd & 17 9:10 left from Jets 42. Checkdown for 7 yard completion. 6:35 3rd & 13 8;30 left from Jets 49. Incomplete down field about 35 yards, way overthrown - busted route? 6:55 2nd & 10 7:09 left from Jets 37; down 20-9. Checkdown to Wilson who makes the first down with great running. 7:14 1st & 10 6:07 left from Bills 36; down 20-9. Short pass to right flat to Bam who gets close to first down on tough running. 7:16 1st & 10 3:11 left, from Jets 36; down 20-9. Checkdown over the middle for 5 yards - clock keeps running. 7:28 2nd & 4 2:48 left from Jets 42; down 20-9. Complete down the middle for 20 yards to Bills 38. 7:47 2nd & 10 2:06 left from Bills 38; down 20-9. Checkdown for 5 yards; clock keeps running. 7:50 3rd & 10 1:58 left from Bills 34; down 20-9. Complete to left sideline for 16 yards. Clock stops. 8:07 1st & 10 1:52 left from Bills 18; down 20-9. Checkdown for 6 yards. Clock stops. 8:16 2nd & 4 1:49 left from Bills 12; down 20-9. Checkdown for 3 yards; clock keeps running. 8:27 3rd & 1 1:24 left from Bills 8; down 20-9. Incomplete - near INT - at 3 yard line. 8:40 1st & 10 0:45 left from Jets 21; down 20-12. Checkdown to right sideline, Incomplete. 8:47 2nd & 10 0:40 left from Jets 21; down 20-12. Incomplete down the middle just past sticks. 8:55 3rd & 10 0:35 left from Jets 21; down 20-12. Incomplete about 20 yards down left sideline. 9:02 4th & 10 0:30 left from Jets 21; down 20-12. Batted down at LOS. Game over. Aside from these passes he did complete some in the 10-15 yard range and attempted some that were longer - nothing completed longer than 20 IIRC. I noted the Time Left to indicate where they should've showed more urgency and risk taking IMO. My take away: Under tough conditions in a tough stadium against a SB contender, coming back after suffering significant injury, MW had a good - not great - game. The problem is he needed to have at least a near-great game for the Jets to win. The other thing is that there were a lot of "checkdowns" or plays that didn't get a first down or get "chunks". Yes, conditions were terrible, the OL was playing poorly, C. Davis went out early, and Conklin and Mims dropped some catchable balls, so I'm not blaming this all on White. "Blame" isn't really the right word, but it does show that we need to be able to make "chunk" plays when the game dictates instead of playing so conservatively. Losing a "close" game because the QB didn't take any chances doesn't get us closer to the playoffs. And one other point: I don't have access to the All 22 or other full field tape so I don't know if on many of these shorter passes if there just wasn't anyone open deeper, but it's hard to believe that was the case on all or most of them. If we're not going to be able to control the game by running and instead have to throw 40-50 times a game, we ought to be stretching the field more and we're not doing that. And no, Wilson wouldn't have done any better, and likely would've done worse.
For what it is worth, here's comments from Bills fans on the topic of Mike White at Bills Reddit. Saw similar comments all over Twitter yesterday. We all have our ideas as to what/who is/might be the key for the Jets at QB, it is always worth a look at what those who haven't an emotional investment in the team have to say, pro/con. FTJ, but need to give respect where its due. Mike White is a dawg. : buffalobills (reddit.com)
I got a relevant question for everyone. Just how much do you like Mike White? Every positive headline that Mike White generates is another million he'll cost next year. Do you think his talent is up there with Cousins? Cousins makes 35 million a year. In this QB crazy league some team will likely throw 15-20 mill a year at him. Remember, we currently have 3.8 million in space, with more going out than coming back next season. He may literally be playing us out of his services. If you want him on the roster next year, how much are you willing to pay to retain Mike White?
I think he could play the position if they need him to. Hopefully White does t get broke in half and it won't be an issue.
