Mike White had to come out of the game twice today. Would it be end of the world to have Zach in the sidelines instead of Flacco? We lost Pats game because Coaching staff refused to take out Zach. We lost Bills game because Coaching staff decided to deactivate Zach entirely. Truly mind blowing.
If he’s inactive it’s because he was shot. They are protecting him from getting smacked around until he’s “right”.
If Zach Wilson isn’t good enough to start because his mechanics suck, then he isn’t good enough to be a backup QB.
It's a good question, including going forward. Even if Mike White can play next week, the backup better be prepared. Flacco looks impossibly bad. So are talking Streveler? No good choices.
I think having him deactivated up until now made sense. Let him focus completely on getting himself squared away without having to worry about preparing for the next game. But after seeing Flacco shit the bed again, even if Zach is still struggling I have to believe he'd be better than that. At a minimum, even if White is declared the starter again, they should make Strevelor the backup and make Zach available if needed. But if they still think Wilson can become a starter for them they ought to make him the backup to White. In any case, Flacco should start his off season early.
I'd much rather see Zach than Flacco if White can't play. Who knows what's happening behind closed doors, but at least Zach has a winning record as a starter and mobility.
I have no issue with him deactivating Zach and keeping him out through today. But today also made clear that it's probably in our best interest for him to strongly reconsider backup QB options for next week and beyond... whether it's Zach or even Streveler.
Fair question for brook to ask. God that was frustrating that Flacco couldn't get through one series without fumbling
In my opinion, Wilson would not have been effective today off the bench. I doubt he fixed his mechanics in 3 weeks, and I think he would have resorted to "hero ball". If White didn't come back, this would have been a blow out under ol' Joe and I honestly don't believe Wilson would have made much difference. That said, he needs to be active going forward. Flacco shouldn't even be in this league anymore, and he certainly can't come in cold. Get White some of that Kevlar, I don't want to see Wilson again this season.
Could be but if nothing else Zach would've had the escape legs option. As it was, no way White could avoid the Bills esp. when they started blitzing the shit out of him in the 2nd half. White's not athletic and he was not picking up the extra rusher (meaning when the Bills rushed more that the Jets had blocking, White has to 'hot read' the open man).
Yes really. Why deactivate your back up QB who beat Bills already and go with a washed up Flacco? For real, what the fuck is Flacco doing for this team currently?
Zach was deactivated for more than just some errant throws. 1. He had lost the locker room, and some questioned whether he ever had their support. 2. Overthrows and dirtballs aside (they are simply a symptom of a problem), no one questions Zach's arm strength. His on-field problem is between his ears - the game is too fast for him, and it hasn't slowed down in twenty games. That's concerning, especially for a #2 pick.
Sometime 5 or 6 years into the future when Saleh has moved on, and Zach Wilson is not in the NFL anymore, Cimini or someone will tell the story in detail of what happened this season. But since we can't count on beat writers being relevant or timely we will just have to speculate
