Our remaining games can all easily be losses. The Lions score a lot of points which just so happens to be kryptonite to teams that don’t. Jags just took care of business against the rolling dumpster fire that is the Tennessee Titans. The Phins are just a good team and a division rival. I think some people penciled in some of the animal kingdom as W’s but it’s suddenly not looking so good.
Jets are now on the outside looking in. The Chargers have the easiest remaining schedule out of of 3 teams currently contending for the 7th seed. The Phins have to run the AFCE gauntlet to end the year. It really could come down to Jets vs. Phins in the last game of the season.
It is starting to look like that. If the Jets win next week and Miami loses to the Bills then the Jets would only need to win one game against either then Jaguars or Seahawks to assure that the Dolphins game is a win and in. The Chargers beating Miami sucks but that might cost the Dolphins in the end to if the Jets beat them.
Jets win against the lions. Dolphins lose to bills Chargers lose to Titans pats lose to cards or raiders jets will have 6th spot or if one team loses they will have 7 again.
That's why the Lions game actually isn't as big as the other games. I'd rather get to 10-7 with a loss to the Lions then the other AFC teams. Obviously ideally I want to beat the Lions but it might come down to conference records which means the lions games isn't as significant. Let's go win though.
These scenarios are only for the chargers. They don't account for NE. The pats losing tonight would be huge for us. Also, its a harder path but the jags and raiders still have a shot to knock us out. IF we lose this week and the Jags somehow beat Dalls, that game will be pretty big also.
I was messing around with the tie breaker scenario machine on ESPN and this is what I came up with: We really need 2 of the Chargers losses to come from AFC teams (Tenn, @ Indy, @ Denver) to get in over them if we are both 9-8 and the Miami game not be a win and in.
The Chargers were in this spot last year, better spot actually, and they choked losing to a terrible Texans team and the Raiders . Their schedule might be easy but they have shown anything can happen with them
When Kyler Murray went down last night I knew 2 things. Jets were doomed and I was going to lose the AZ+9 tease
If you run that ESPN playoff machine, reasonably of course, so many different scenarios have it coming down to Jets & Miami, win and in you can even give us a loss to Detroit or Seattle if you want and its still quite likely
I don't think the Jets are on a playoff path at this point. 2-2 down the stretch and 9-8 and maybe the 19-20 pick in the draft. To make the playoffs the Jets needed to stick to the game plan that was working and replace Wilson a game earlier. Maybe even a half earlier.
The Pats schedule down the stretch is rough. They have to play the Bengals, the Dolphins and the Bills. Even the Raiders game on the road isn't a gimme.
I'm not too worried about falling out of a playoff spot. If we deserve to be in the dance, we'll find a way. If we don't, then we weren't good enough to get in.
