I just don't get it, particularly if you live in NJ. Take last Sunday, got in easy for tailgate few hours before the game, no traffic at all. Hung out with fellow Jet fans, did bbq, played some ball, left parking lot about 30 mins or so in advance, got through security in about 15-20 mins, was at the seat a couple mins before kick off. Could see everything well, used restroom at half time, no lines to speak of, got some snacks without missing action. Loved the game, Revis ceremony. Went back after the game, extra 20 mins of traffic to get out. The only negative was the rain - these cheap bustards should have paid for the roof. But overall, if you live in NJ, why in the world would you be so disgusted that you want to go to Queens? This just seems illogical. Particularly this guy wants to build casinos there, there is another soccer stadium. It will be an absolute traffic nightmare if you are just coming for the game, not to mention further major inflation of high prices that we already have. Maybe he wants people to fly in, stay for the weekend, go to casinos, spend major bucks, watch the Jets, etc, but for NJ fans who want to come just for the game, I have a hard time grasping why MetLife in NJ is not 1000 times better.
Queens would be horrendous. Worse than East Rutherford. But we need a new stadium in the worst way. It’s one of the worst in the league.
Good enough for a front runner for World Cup Soccer 2026 Final, the biggest event in the World. Copa America Final already played. Yet, the Jets need new one in the "worst way". Right.
gave up the season tix back in 2016 and never looked back. My dad had them since 1982 i think, i started going in 1993. I live about 15 min from metlife. I hate the traffic and the stadium was never fun to go to yet alone freezing on a sunny 65 degree day cause the wind hits us for 3 hours straight. Cant beat being home getting pumped and switching to redzone during the breaks.
When has NYC even seriously considered building a stadium for an NFL team? Yeah, that's right, never. The high price of "doing business" in the area makes the cost of a new stadium for one team prohibitive. Looks like this politician is just jumping on the Jets bandwagon to try and get some votes for himself. Imagine a Jets fan living in beautiful Northern Bergen County being forced to pay $30.00 in bridge tolls to travel 15 miles to a place like Queens, NY? In all fairness, Queens is home to modern professional baseball and tennis stadiums, two airports and has for hosted two World's Fairs. Since they've been trying to promote this borough forever, why is it still a place most people avoid when visiting NYC? At least Astoria has some pretty good Greek food. Hard to believe the Jets will be leaving the Meadowlands in the next 15-20 years...even if they can afford to pay the toll.
If the new soccer stadium/apartment/hotel is projected at $780M, it will easily run over a billion. In 2008, Saputo Stadium in Montreal (capacity 20,801) was built for $17M. I see two of the developers are the Wilpon family and Saul Katz. Hope they do a better job with this than they did with Madoff and the Mets. Not to be confused with Bennie and the Jets.
For selfish reasons I hope they stay in East Rutherford forever. I live in NJ (Fair Lawn, NJ) which is about a 20-minute commute from 208-17-Paterson Plank Rd. It's easy for me to get there and back home with no problems.
yes. Yes we do need one in the worst way. It’s one of the worst stadiums in the league. I travel to stadiums a lot for work and MetLife is hands down the worst I’ve been to outside of Nashville and they are getting a new one. Don’t give a shit about the World Cup. They are playing in Qatar. Clearly standards don’t mean too much to them. They needed a stadium in the biggest market in the world and unfortunately for them there’s only one of those.
When the Jets do get their own stadium, it will be after they have won a Super Bowl and it will be the most over-commercialized, over-monetized display of capitalism that anyone has ever seen. It will make the entire nation of Japan jealous.
Wait until Woody steps into the Bills new stadium for the first time. He will probably have a shit fit that small market Buffalo has a nicer stadium then him.
Metlife is too big and too boring 65,000 seat stadium in the greatest city in the world. Lets get it done
Ever been to Queens? Beyond that getting TO Queens is never fun. It's 40 minutes from where I am in CT and I can confidently say it's still a worse commute than MetLife.
Truthfully if Metlife was a state-of-the-art stadium like So-Fi then nobody would've had a major problem with it.
