So the supposed knock on White is his arm strength. The fact is that he was drafted out of high school as a pitcher with a 90 plus fastball. In fact the scouting report out of college stated that his arm strength was plenty strong. I think the NFL has just become addicted with guys that can trrow the ball 100 mph like Allen. I remember when the Jets drafted Browning Nagle who had a big arm but could not hit the broad side of a barn. Anyway, I can name 5 HOF QBs with lesser arms than White starting with Payton Manning. The impprtant thing with White is he is accurate and moves through his progressions. I just want to see hime against a good defense and see what he can do. The knock out of college was he did not like to get hit but again he had a shit OLine. Only time will tell. Let him play out the season and see how it goes.
Not having seen him in action for a while... I was impressed by how much zip he has on the ball. He also has touch... something that was alien to Zach. He threw a tight window pass on 3rd & 9 to Moore in the 2nd qtr. that was just beautiful... I don't predict we'll see our receivers asking to be traded any time soon.
The pass to Wilson for a TD was a strong throw. I don't think he has any lack of arm strength at all. He has average NFL quality arm strength I'd say.
Good thing MLF's game plan doesn't need a crazy arm strength. All we need from him is accuracy and touch and looks like he might just be fine for what we need.
He has a very good arm, not sure where the narrative saying otherwise started. Nonsense. His weakness is he has no mobility.
He's got good arm strength, just not Zach/Mahomes/Allen level that everyone wants nowadays. The zip on his ball isn't comparable, but at the same time I can't tell if he's putting too much touch on some of those sideline throws.
This reminds me of when people were trying to convince themselves that Chad had a strong arm back in the day.
Looked faster than Flacco on that rollout. He knows WHEN to bail unlike Zachenberg who started to resemble Joey Harrington.
Dude you’re preaching to the choir. Far as I’m concerned Zach is history. We’re talking MW’s strengths and weaknesses. There are people who think he has a weak arm which is laughable. His weakness is his mobility, bring faster than Flacco is not necessarily a compliment.
I can’t remember that and I’m really ok with it. I don’t remember who said it but the comment was along the lines of “they’re holding his arm together with popsicle sticks and bubble gum at this point”. Thats what I associate Pennington with on TGG.
Also: "He's like an egg back there." And no, I'm not likening Chad's Fragility to Mike White, I hope he's a lot more durable than that. Mike White has an average arm when he's able to plant his feet. It's enough to make most of the throws but there's a lot more timing there than a guy who can speed up the play with his arm. He has his limitations. Sideline routes in particular can be a problem, but a smart OC can gameplan for that. It's hard to avoid them on a game-winning drive though. Let's hope MLF keeps being smart.
Yea agree on Whites arm. I thought he did well in the rain and I’m anxious to see what he can do in optimal conditions. I’ll take dink and dunk for the rest of the year though if it puts points on the board.
I have news for everyone. With a pre-injury Chad Pennington and this team as it's currently constituted we would be . . .
He was drafted for his arm. The people that say he has a weak arm are only the Wilson nut huggers because White actually completes short passes White was a baseball pitcher who topped 90 mph. He can throw. His weakness is his mobility but so far he's done well hiding that by getting the football out
Yeah, I keep reading about the 90mph fastball, but I'm not seeing passes thrown like 90mph fastballs. Maybe something happened between the time he was drafted and the time he started throwing passes for the Jets.
