Zack Wilson, when asked why Elijah wasn't getting throws his way, said something like "you should ask the coaching staff." I think part of it is that Moore has been making some bad decisions. The Zack interception in his first game happened because Moore gave up on the route and did not run his clear out route to clear his corner. When he gave up on the route, his CB peeled off and intercepted the pass. Similarly, in the NE game, on a QB keeper in the first half at the goal line, it looked like Moore was supposed to clear out his guy so Zack could run into the end zone. Moore dropped back like he was going to catch a screen and drew his CB in so that the CB was pretty much right where Zack needed to go to score. After that play he was pulled and came back for one play before coming back in in the 4th quarter when they were down by 2 scores and really needed to score. I think part of what's happening is that Moore seems to refusing to do his job on certain plays and is pissing off the coaching staff, so they're responding by limiting his snaps and using him more on clear out routes. I think the message is that if he wants to have opportunities he has to do his job (but he won't get nearly as many opportunities as last year because they have so many more capable options in the passing game now). I don't think they want this to go public, so all they've been saying is that we need to get him more involved ... It's inconceivable that he would have 0 targets for a bunch of consecutive games unless they're sending him a message.
I guess the bit at the end of that post that says Mike White must have made him should of helped a little lol Nevermind it is unimportant
So which one Happens next week? They activate 6 WR’s or they deactivate smith? I know smith has a role in special teams, but we can probably give that role to someone else.
The message from the coaching staff to Elijah and to the entire team is obvious: if you have a grievance, keep it in house. If a player is going to go on social media to announce their disgruntled attitude, they should expect to get slapped down. It doesn't take an expert in human behavior to see that Moore's actions were an affront to Saleh's authority. Although cryptic with their comments, the coaching staff was clearly penalizing Moore for his potentially toxic attitude. If they had given Moore (and to a lesser extent Mims) a pass on their less than mature behavior, the coaching staff would have risked losing support from the team players who have busted their asses to turn around the recurring shambles from the last decade. All one has to do is see how Mims has done a 180 with his attitude and is positively contributing to gauge how Saleh has handled this situation. So far, the positive results stemming from the coach's disciplinary actions speak a lot louder than some misguided social media scuttlebutt.
not sure. For example they dressed 10 DLinemen against the Bills. Maybe they go down to 9 and dress 6 WR’s if Corey is ready to go against the Pats.
With Rankins out it makes it an easier decision to do this. Not sure if there is a ready made replacement to be elevated. If not, that makes a spot available.
Playing him from the slot Moore seems to make plenty of sense. But whether it's the slot, outside, on jet sweeps, they need to get this guy more touches. It doesn't look like Zach even looks his way. It's a disservice to him and to the team because getting the ball in his hands will be great for this offense. They're just leaving a huge offensive weapon out of the game plan. I hope LaFleur and co will figure this out over the bye and will be disappointed if he's not getting a lot more involvement against the Pats
I think the reason he isn't getting touches is laid out nicely by @edray10 above. I think the CS would love to have Moore involved more but not at the expense of team cohesiveness and respect for authority which is critical to their success. If they "reward" Moore's outburst and childish demands what message does that send to players who aren't as high on the depth chart and who would love to be higher and bust their ass to get their while keeping their mouths shut? Moore is a young player with a big ego, and he's right that he could help the team if he could get the ball in his hands, but the key to that is for him to work hard at earning it which apparently he hasn't done yet.
Well said. After Moore's me first outburst he needs to earn his way back. He needs to earn trust. I love the way the CS have handled this. One player is not bigger than the team.
I really like Moore, don't get me wrong, but I'm slowly coming around to the fact that when we pass judgment as to why Moore is not getting the ball enough, we have almost zero insight knowledge as to the game plan, of what play he was supposed to run, where he was supposed to be and his role in that specific play. Thus we only see the picture of the one instant where he is open, without understanding the whole sequence for that play, and that is not enough. As much as I like to see more touches for him, I suspect that where there is smoke there is some fire, and that his route running from start to finish is in consistent with the play calling. MLF is no dummy and he is not going to suppress talent to help this team because of ego, but at the same time, he is not going to appease someone that is not following the playbook to a T. That does not help the team. Mims has overcome that and is now a solid contributor. I hope Moore does the same. We need an all man on deck approach to take this season to the next level. Put the team ahead of you at all times.
Ultimately the Jets are going to have to rehab Moore's role in the offense somehow. He's a second round pick not a 1st round pick so they only have control of him until 2024 and no way to extend that control. This is a bit different than Mims who the Jets apparently are ok with losing when his first contract is up. Sending a message is all well and good but then you have to fix the aggravation that caused the player to act out in the first place.
I also initially was thinking that perhaps he lack of targets was due to coaches purposely avoiding him due to trade request, that they didn't want to encourage this behavior, but I am now realizing is that he just wasn't that good lately. Probably because of trade request his mind is not into it, I am not sure. Whatever it is though, he needs to step up. Slot is a critical position, and he needs to play well. I don't know if he can be a 1000 yard guy in this role with everyone healthy, but he could easily be 700-800 guy for us plus step up for more in case GW gets injured. He needs to fully embrace this role though.
Listen, many a rookie receiver with 500 yards their rookie season just fell of the earth after that. Breshad Perriman is immensely talented, probably more so than Moore. He had 500 yard his rookie year and poof…. Moore has dogged it on blocking assignments, run lazy routes, and pouts on social media all while demanding a trade. He had a cool video out of pads last offseason where he looked quick as hell. Unfortunately the pads must be too heavy because he runs routes like he has a piano on his back. I don’t really feel like the leash needs to be very long with him.
He had 0 targets since the Piitsburgh game (so 5 games now) where his failure to run his clear out route resulted in his CB intercepting Zack. Since then, they've had him running nothing but clear out routes - I think there's a message there. That was way before his trade request. He was clearly in the doghouse and his response to being in the doghouse was to request a trade (very bad advice given that he has no leverage) and that request likely extended his time in the doghouse. He can be a very good WR, but he has to earn his way out of the doghouse first. Hopefully, his penance is nearly over and they're switching him to slot is evidence of that.
