I don't understand this logic at all. Who cares about stats? It is about growth and playing well. Nothing from Zach's rookie season matters now as far as evaluation goes. He is beyond that. And if he plays phenomenally the final 8 games like you said, why would you even care about how he played in his first 6 games while going (5-1) then? When it clicks with a QB, it clicks.
Yeah it’ll be interesting… you care about stats because at some point the sample size is large enough that the stats show a pretty clear picture of who a guy is, and they will match the eye test. I agree it’s about the trend though…if the arrow is pointing up then that’s great and it would clearly make last year irrelevant. I think the issue is that he just needs to show continued improvement. To me, that means no more NE games where he’s running backwards for twenty yards, throwing the ball up for grabs and missing open guys. I don’t want to see that shit again. I was impressed to see his Buffalo performance as it felt to me like they worked on those kinds of things and he took the coaching and fixed it…we didn’t see any of that vs Buffalo. personally I think he’ll get next year pretty much no matter what outside of him having a few more NE type games. I just don’t think they will give up on him especially if we keep winning. I’m ok with bringing him along slowly especially if we keep winning…he’s shown flashes in the clutch at times…if he can build on that great. I’ve been very critical of him because of his poor accuracy, which is reflected in his bottom of the league completion rate stat…as much as some want to excuse it away or cherry pick out drops or throwaways or pressure or whatever, it is what it is. He needs to improve on accuracy and field vision. If he can do that, the sky’s the limit, so I just want to see continued improvement in those two areas. If he can’t then he’d be holding this team back…you can’t be a consistent Super Bowl contender if you have to hide your QB. But he’s still young, still learning the NFL game coming from BYU, and he’s shown flashes of potential, so there’s hope. he just needs to limit mistakes for now and keep showing improvement and it’ll sort itself out.
I would say, it doesn't really matter how he did the first year. He does not need to make cumulative stats look good for both years with his remaining games. But I do think his overall second year needs to end much better than the first. He just needs to play solid ball for the rest of the season. If he does, he will end up with Josh Allen like second year numbers, and we need not think about spending a draft pick, which hopefully will be very low in each round, for another QB. Justin Fields looks to be figuring things out after playing pretty poorly in his first 6 games. Hopefully last game was the start of Zach's turnaround as well. It will be pretty bad if Justin balls out, and Zach doesn't. I think both of them will though before this season said and done.
I have a few Bears friends who I watch games with and have been for the past few weeks. They have multiple TV's and invite a good amount of people over for some Sunday fun. Watching Fields and his development over that period of time has been jaw dropping. I currently live in South Florida, and the Bears just played the Dolphins and I was like Fields is like a Madden player. So much fun to watch and I can't help thinking maybe we should have taken him like most pegged us to. Hindsight is 20/20, and will see how Zach continues to develop with this team, but that sentiment for Fields is starting to grow.

Pointless indeed, but can't help but wonder. Also, don't let the overall record completely fool you in believing in certain QB's. This is a complete team effort top to bottom. Zach is doing what he is asked to do so let's leave it at that.
FIFY. Aside from that, what you're saying is that you're relying on the numerical averages tell you rather than current (meaning the EOY) measurements and eye tests tell you. First of all, this is flawed from the standpoint that it gives a lot more weight to earlier performances when he would've been expected to perform less that average. So for example, if he were to end the season with 4 games or so of 300 +- yards, 2 TDs, no T.O. games that wouldn't tell you as much as the two year cumulative average. I'm almost certain this is not how Saleh and Douglas will assess his progress. Secondly, we can see that the formula the Jets are going to try and follow with Zach for now is giving a more conservative game plan which isn't conducive to generating flashy numbers - aside from wins - which also won't do much to offset the earlier games where he had lower numbers. And of course we don't know how long this more conservative game plan will be used for Zach - will it just be for this year, part or all of next year, or the year after? I believe they don't want to keep him handcuffed longer than they need to and will eventually turn him loose, but this may take 2-3 full seasons. You've made it clear that you don't believe Zach is a FQB and are anxious for the Jets to move on, but I think performances we've seen from him since he returned to the lineup - with the exception of the Pats game - show the Jets aren't thinking on terms of replacing him.

To be fair though, the Bears haven't done much to help him in any way. Outside of the Claypool trade last week, who was his best weapon Mooney? He's developed into a nice player, and I was piggy backing off of another poster who mentioned Fields and his play over the past few weeks. He's been a difference maker and a lot of fun to watch. That was my overall point. Some of y'all really read to much or get to sensitive about certain things. Take it for what it is seriously.
Fields is becoming quite a player in this league. I didn't know he could run like that, almost 200 yards rushing himself last week AND he threw for 3 touchdowns. What a weapon. He would be awesome in this offense
TBH, I don't know whether he watches the games, or if he does, what he's seeing, but I can only point out what I'm seeing which seems to track with the majority of evaluators. I'll also say that I've been a Zach supporter since his BYU days and have seen enough of him to feel comfortable in holding the opinion that he's going to become a top 10 QB at least - barring major injury. I understand there are people who disagree with opinion and that's fine, but again I'll point to what seems to be Douglas and Saleh's faith in him becoming a FQB to reinforce my own assessment.
He could play well for the rest of the year and the Jets would completely forget about last season. The problem I have with him right now is that I just don't think he's a plus QB. His situation reminds me a bit of Eli Manning however Eli was able to brute force throws for TD's and that's what offset all the picks. When ZW tries to force a throw the other team comes up with it too often and he does not make the OMG throws Eli made that offset that.

Nania grades Wilson against the Bills. Nania gives him a 66.0 grade which grades him out as his 5th best overall game and 2nd best game this year behind the Miami game. I pretty much agree that this game was not as good as Miami this year, Jax or Tampa Bay last year. But, it was still a very good game and a good bounce back after NE. Let's hope we see a similar performance in Foxboro. The scary thing or maybe good thing is by the time Nania comes out on Thursday with his film reviews I don't even need to watch the plays Nania shows as I have seen them so many times by now in other film reviews that I remember them just by looking at the title.
