No, he was too overwhelmed, coming from BYU and can't adjust to the NFL.

Or more generally, when they focus on really shutting down the running game and making Zach beat them completely with his arm. I don't think he can do that yet. I think he can do that, but hasn't shown an ability to do it - witness 41 pass attempts vs. the Pats and a loss. What could make that happen though is if he uses his legs more as he did a couple of times yesterday to keep pass defenses from stacking the box on him. If the RBs can't break loose, and the the passing game isn't working, using his legs - to run forward - can open things up.

I'm pretty sure Sean McVeigh learned a few things yesterday and things won't be the same in Buffalo.

If we're going to ding Zach for a few plays - I disagree that the strip sack was on him, but I have to rewatch it - we also have to acknowledge that the refs screwed them with major misses on penalties that weren't called that easily could've led to more points. I "understand" that lousy teams have to "earn" the respect of the officials, but frankly that's a bullshit practice. If anything, lousy teams should be given some breaks, or better yet, just stop giving massive breaks to the "good" teams.

There was at least one play where Zach was almost sacked but he got the ball away and the rusher never slowed down and hit him full force - no flag. Compared to last week's call against the Jets where JFM at least tried to avoid landing on Jones. And another play where Zach scrambled out to his left for positive yards and the tackler came in helmet on helmet - no flag. There were others, but those come to mind right now.

One thing that Brady - and most of the great QBs learned to do was to throw low when coverage was tight, where only his guy had a chance to catch it. Doing that, the worst that happens is you throw into the turf incomplete. Trying to hit receivers in the hands/chest when they're blanketed usually results in the pass being broken up or an INT, and sometimes a completion. You can make these passes in college, but not in the NFL. Zach and his receivers need to work on this.

I don't disagree with what you're saying on some missed calls against us but the strip sack is 100% on Zach.

He's gotta keep that internal clock going and realize that Von Miller is gonna get home, most of the time sooner rather than later. Either step up into the pocket knowing you might still get sacked but at least you can have a better feel for where the rushers will come from and can then protect the ball better or throw the ball away. This was Zach trying to make a play so I'm not trying to be hyper critical of him here but it is what it is. Can't have those types of plays, especially considering where we were on the field and the game situation.

Luckily, Sauce is Sauce and got the huge pick to put us right back where we were so it doesn't feel like it was that bad but it was a bad play by Zach. His worst of the game IMO.

Zach played well yesterday and he showed true resilience against a great opponent. He deserves a lot of credit.

zach played very well. he missed a couple layups but he made up for it with some lasers into tight windows.

one play that i havent seen mentioned is his one throwaway. the safety came on a blitz and zach had garrett on a fly and i really wished he let it rip. he saw the play correctly but just didnt let it go for some reason.

other than those couple of plays, zach played a really good, solid game.

no I don’t think so because Allen has proven he can be MVP worthy…Zach hasn’t yet. Though to be fair, Zach is earlier in his career…if Zach develops and starts stacking better and better games then he’ll get the benefit of the doubt as well.

he had a very good game yesterday….he had those three or four bad plays that have been pointed out but he limited killer mistakes unlike last week where he inexcusably just threw it up for grabs multiple times.

this is who he is right now…we have to limit his throws because he’s not yet ready, and just let the D and running game carry the day. Yesterday looked very much like Denver and GB games where we rode the rest of the team and needed Zach to make a few key throws (which he did) and not give the game away (which he also did). So be it. It’s how we need to win right now.

but as hard as I’ve been on him for not really showing a lot of real tangible improvement, yesterday to me showed that he did learn from last week. Throws were quick and decisive. He did not run backwards at all. He stepped into the pocket. No stupid throw ups that result in picks. So much of what he did wrong last week he cleaned up this week. That gives me hope. And lo and behold, the stats actually show the improvement. As much as people want to cherry pick, when he actually plays well you don’t need to. His completion rate which has been a huge issue was great yesterday. His TD to picks ratio was positive. His yards per game were not great stats but that was the game plan and it worked so I won’t bang on that. I still don’t think you can win consistently and deep into the playoffs with a QB who throws for 150 or fewer yards each week, but for now, I’ll take it if he can deliver key throws when needed.

at some point we’ll need him to be a QB that we don’t have to protect and scheme around, but for year 2, if he can continue the mistake free play, I’ll take it.

This is basically what I and a few others have been trying to get the Zach doubters to understand. They're capable of winning with Zach being a "game manager", but he has a lot more potential than that. But they're smart not to rush him. Last week they tried to do that and it blew up on them. But you should be able to see from the throws he makes that he's got much more potential than Sanchez or Darnold. This team will be scary good in a year or so - maybe sooner - when Zach hits his stride, and the rest of the team continues to gel.

2-8 in his last 10 one score games. He would already be labelled a choke artist and can't win the big game.

Yes I agree from the physical talent standpoint he has a high ceiling, and I’m sure that’s why JD picked him at 2 overall.

From the physical side my real issue with him is his inaccuracy. I think he misses too many throws that should not be missed. I’m always concerned with accuracy issues as I’m not sure they can be fixed, but we’ll see.

my feeling is that his issues to date are more mental than physical…the game is a bit too fast for him and the level of competition is a long way from BYU. He doesn’t see the full field well enough yet, and he misses open guys more than he should. He panics and bails out of the pocket and runs backwards and throws the ball up for grabs. Yesterday he didn’t do any of those things and it made a world of difference.

I guess the glass half full argument is that he’s still young and hopefully those skills will develop as he has other great physical attributes.

    I hope he does!

Solid game from Zach. Was generally accurate and didn't make any big mistakes. Would like to see more of these types of games. I hope Zach is realizing more and more that you don't need to throw deep over and over to put up big numbers, you just need to get the ball to receivers and let them do the work from there.

Zach only threw 1 touchdown and it was a simple screen. He missed an open Berrios, threw a pass over Mims head, and missed an open Conklin on a key 3rd down play. He also fumbled the ball and took points off the board. He threw an interception but thanks to Uzomah and the refs, the Jets kept the ball at least. Another terrible performance by Zach Wilson! He is now (5-1), which is not good enough for me!

.................At least that is how I assume the minds of anti-Zach Wilson posters think! ;):D

Another strong performance by Zach and the Jets. I am glad they used last week as motivation instead of allowing it to get them down. (6-3) at the BYE is amazing and all of these young guys will continue to learn and grow, including Zach.

The different arm-angle throws were on full display yesterday. The good ones.

Zach is not inaccurate in fact he is very accurate. He does get sloppy at times and misses throws. Guess what all Qb's miss throws.

I think there was one, but on the replay it was clear there was so much pressure in his face (two defenders on him) that he had no option, and he threw it away with no jeopardy.

If my math is right the Jets had 8 total possessions on which they scored 4 times. Scoring 50 percent of the time against the Bills defense seems like a pretty good percentage. Certainly, better than I would have expected.

One of the more encouraging points yesterday was after Wilson's fumble he did not get down and start playing worse. Rather, the next series on the 1st 3rd down he runs forwards for a first down followed by the TD to Robinson.

Those two calls should have been flagged up by a very angry Saleh, I hope they take it further during the week, the helmet-to-helmet was an utter disgrace not being flagged, it was as bad a one that I have seen this season, also the rough treatment of G.Wilson as well after the paly was dead.

News Flash: The great Josh Allen missed more throws than Zach did.

Yes, Zach missed a couple of throws that he should make, but ALL QBs do. To conclude that he's inaccurate is over the top. And his misses yesterday were all "NFL catchable" except for two, and I'm not sure there weren't mitigating factors involved but will ding him for those anyway.

And IDK how you can still say the game is too fast for him when he got rid of the ball in sub 2.35 seconds on his completions. Does he need to get better at this? Of course! Over time he will. That's called gaining experience. You continue to expect him to play like a seasoned pro when he's effectively still hasn't played 2 full years. He's clearly made major progress, and has clearly demonstrated an ability to learn and apply those lessons quickly. You're expectations are way too great.
