It was a week late but this is exactly the kind of performance I was expecting from Zach last week. A slight improvement in production while not committing turnovers. Have to be happy with Zach's performance this week....
All the Jets had to do last week to beat the Pats was to run the ball effectively. For whatever reason they got pass happy instead and this Jets team is at a disadvantage when they do that.
Last year’s game was akin to a root canal without Novocain - a 45-17 blowout - one year later that turned into a 20-17 win against basically the same exact team…. That shows you how this team has improved leaps and bounds.
Eliajah isn’t big bodied though …. It’s obvious the coaching staff is punishing him. I think after the bye they will work him back in.
Here Is the thing.. I am embarrassed with my angst towards Zach Wilson last week.. He still has a lot to prove yet, consistency, putting It all together, etc... However... He was a big reason we won this game today. He didn't have mesmerizing stats today but he looked like a professional QB today.. Took what the defense gave him and relied on his playmakers around him.. He looked better In the pocket, he actually stepped up In the pocket a few times, took the hit to get the throw off, and showed that he Is very capable. He really did look like a professional QB today, Instead of a rookie that was just out there playing backyard football like last week against The Patriots. I feel a lot better about my ZW stance today (obv) than last week but I want to see the consistency, be a master of this offense, and keep the turnovers to a minimum. Especially because we have a great team around ZW and the sky Is the limit.. We have a strong chance of getting to the playoffs finally and we are contending for the division title. That's wild. What a good day.. What a time to be a Jets fan. So thankful for this win! Wish we would've got that win last week, but, whatever, we beat arguably the best team In the NFL. That's a fucking good sign. For sure. Letssssss Goooooooooooooooooo!
I was totally wrong about this game. Thought the Bills would win in in convincing fashion. And Zach would throw at least 2 picks. He did what he had to today and our D made Allen look silly at times. I'll gladly eat some crow tonight.
Today he proved to me that he can do it against a championship caliber defense (yes, missing some pieces but so are we) and look better than an elite level quarterback. The next step is consistency, but doing it at all buys some time with me.
Well Elijah is taking his lumps thats for sure…hopefully he learns his lesson. I think the CS does have some positive plans for him in the second half.
Dan Samash "Smash" is the situational football/game management coordinator. Saleh leans heavily on him when comes to clock management decisions. He's the guy you see sitting next to LeFleur in the booth.
Maybe one of Zach’s best game and you’d never even consider it looking at the box score. He took only what was given which is what you have to do to beat a team like the Bills. If he can do that and make plays when he needs to rather than when he wants to… with this defense… we can do things. Very reminiscent of the team Jimmy G took to the Super Bowl except Zach's ceiling is far higher. I seriously thought I was going to die in MetLife today. I might have to lose more weight. I haven’t had my heart racing like that over Jets football in at least a decade. What a fantastic all around win. We needed to execute damn near perfectly and we did. All the props in the world to Saleh for this one and every player that played a snap today.
You've always been pretty fair minded about Zach even if I didn't agree with your assessments. I'm glad you could be open minded after today and see what's actually been there all along, hidden by some of his mistakes and growing pains. I agree that him staying in the pocket today made all the difference, but what made that difference was the OL doing a much better job of pass pro than they had the previous 3 games. I'm not absolving Zach entirely for his bailing too early, but given the pressure he was under from those other team's pass rush it wasn't surprising that he became skittish. And I don't want to hear about the "Average Pocket Time" that "proves" he wasn't under any greater pressure than a lot of other QBs. As I said in response to those assertions, "average" doesn't mean that on a lot of plays he wasn't getting far less time. The bottom line is that there was a marked improvement in the pass pro today and that allowed Zach to trust that he could stay in the pocket longer.
There is nothing wrong with having concerns you have nothing to be embarrassed about. I can't say that for a lot of others on this site. Your boy Fields is starting to ball as well.
