There is Tier 1 like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, John Elway, Pat Mahomes where you can win Superbowl because of them. Then there is Tier 2 QB's who can get you there only with a good team. Matthew Stafford couldn't win with Lions because he is in Tier 2. Hence my example. Nothing against him. He was at the top of Tier 2 in his prime.
This team is built to not have to throw a bunch of times. When our QB had to throw a bunch of times we lost the game.
All this Sanchez talk is making me nervous. We need to get our pass game figured out... an effective run game and a stout defense is great... but there's gonna come a point where we'll need to win through the air. I think Zach can do that... and he's shown it in certain situations. The Bills game will be a real test for us... both for our defense in stopping Allen and for the offense in trying to keep up on the scoreboard.
Good post, but I disagree that if Zach had hit Davis in stride it would have been a TD. Alexander was right with Davis and there was another DB right there as well. IMO the only way that pass gets completed is if he throws it short and Davis has to come back for the ball. If he tried to hit him in stride, he could have overthrown the ball, Alexander could have knocked it away or hit Davis right as he was catching the ball and caused an incompletion. If you'll notice, Zach has a great feel for those kinds of situations. What sometimes may look like inaccuracy is not. He's throwing the ball to a spot where only the WR can make a play on the ball or where the WR can safely catch the ball and not get hammered by the DB. I've seen Tim Jenkins and Vitor Paiva point that out in their videos. Every QB misses some throws, but we've all seen Zach routinely have the ability to throw dimes with perfect placement. I think the inaccuracy problems he is having are related to how he is trying to play right now. He's playing a little afraid of making a mistake and being extra cautious rather than just being relaxed and letting it fly. That will cause some accuracy issues. I think that's why he's had some issues in the first half of games recently. He's being too cautious, too careful. Then in the 2nd half, he knows the Jets are running out of time, and the pressure is on, so he starts playing more loose and free, and we see his accuracy go up and he makes clutch throws.
He did win with a worse Colts team though, no? Next you will say Stafford was better than Manning I am afraid.
I respectfully disagree that the pass was underthrown. Jaire Alexander was right there on Davis and had him covered, and there was another DB nearby. IMO the only way that pass was completed was that Zach threw it short so Davis could come back and catch it. If he tried to put it right on Davis or lead him, Alexander could have broken tup he pass or possibly even intercepted the ball. Zach does things like that all the time. I've seen him throw the ball slightly behind a WR so as to complete the pass and not get the WR creamed by the DB, whereas if he had led the WR, the DB could have knocked the ball down, possibly intercepted it or at the very least, would have laid the WR out, and possibly injured him.
Worse Colts team? Bill Polian GM (HOF) Tony Dungy HC(HOF) Marvin Harrison WR (HOF) Edgerrin James RB (HOF) Marshall Faulk RB (HOF) Reggie Wayne (Ring of Honor) Tariq Glenn LT (ring of Honor) Jeff Saturday C (Ring of Honor) Dwight Freeney DE (Ring of Honor) Robert Mathis DE (Ring of Honor) Bob Sanders S (Two Time First Team All-Pro) Dallas Clark TE (First Team All-Pro) Antoine Bethea DB (Two Time Pro Bowler) Joseph Addai RB (Pro Bowler) Ken Dilger TE (Pro Bowler) Kato June (Pro Bowler) Mike Vanderjagt (Pro Bowler) Sure, he played with a bunch of scrubs.
Do you agree with Peyton being Tier 1 and Stafford being Tier 2? If so, why are you still arguing with me? Sanchez was the beneficiary of those great Jet teams and if we had Stafford we would be Superbowl champion. Heck forget Stafford, if we had Nick Foles we would have been Superbowl champions. Zach's story is still being written. He has great tools but we will all see if he will put things together and become a good QB but the book is already written about Sanchez and he sucked.
Since this thread started as defense of Zach, Michael Nania gives a good analysis of Zach's GB game, with film ---------> https://jetsxfactor.com/2022/10/19/grading-every-zach-wilson-throw-vs-green-bay-packers/

I am just going to reply to this post with an I told you so. Sanchize was far better than Zach is now.
